In most grid-connected inverters (GCI) with an LCL filter, since the design of both the LCL filter and the controller is done separately, considerable tuning efforts have to be exerted when compared to inverters using an L filter. Consequently, an integrated co-design of the filter and the controller for an LCL-type GCI is proposed in this paper. The control strategy includes only a PI current controller and a proportional grid voltage feed-forward controller. The capacitor is removed from the LCL filer and the design procedure starts from an L-type GCI with a PI current controller. After the PI controller has been settled, the capacitor is added back to the filter. Hence, it introduces a resonance frequency, which is identified based on the crossover frequencies to accommodate the preset PI controller. Using the proposed co-design method, harmonic standards are satisfied and other practical constraints are met. Furthermore, the grid voltage feed-forward control can bring an inherent damping characteristic. In such a way, the good control performance offered by the original L-type GCI and the sharp harmonic attenuation offered by the latter designed LCL filter can be well integrated. Moreover, only the grid current and grid voltage are sensed. Simulation and experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed design methodology.

In order to compute the forces which are transmitted through rubber bushings with a commercial multibody dynamic analysis (MBDA) program, a rubber bushing model is needed. The rubber bushing model of MBDA programs such as DADS or ADAMS is the Voigt model which is simply a parallel spring-viscous damper system, meaning that the damping force of the Voigt model is proportional to the frequency. However, experiments do not necessarily support this proportionality. Alternatively, the viscoelastic characteristics of rubber bushings can be better represented by the complex stiffness. The purpose of this paper is to develop a viscoelastic rubber bushing model for the MBDA programs. Firstly, a methodology is proposed to calculate the complex stiffness of rubber bushings considering static and dynamic load conditions. Secondly, a viscoelastic rubber bushing model developed which uses standard elements provided by DADS. The proposed methods are applied to the rubber bushings of the lower control arms of a rear suspension of a 1994 Ford Taurus model. Then, the forces computed for the rubber bushing model are analyzed and compared with the Voigt model in time and frequency domains.

Steel structures with added viscoelastic dampers are analysed to investigat their behavior under earthquake excitation. The direct integration method, which produces exact solution for the non-proportional or non-classical damping system, is used throughout the analysis. The results from modal strain energy method are also provided for comparison. Then a new analytical a, pp.oach, based on the rigid floor diaphragm assumption and matrix condensation technique, is introduced, and the results are compared with those obtained from direct integration method and modal strain energy method. The well known phenomenon, that the effectiveness of the viscoelastic dampers depends greatly on the location of the dampers, is once again confirmed in the analysis. It is also found that the modal strain energy method generaly underestimates the responses obtained from the direct integration method, especially when the dampers are placed in only a part of the building. The proposed method turns out to be very efficient with considerable saving in computation this and reasonably accurate considering the reduced degrees of freedom.

This papers describes the preparation and experimental results of a micro mass detection devices based on cantilever and a diffuser-type micro pump using screen printing thick-film technologies and Si micro-machining. PZT-PCW thick films were prepared by new hybrid method based on the screen printing. By applying these PZT-PCW piezoelectric thick films on actuator, a cantilever for mass detection sensor and a micropump for microfluidic element are successfully fabricated. Resonant frequency and displacement of PZT-PCW thick film actuator in air and in liquid are measured by laser vibrometer system as a function of actuator size. The resonant frequency of PZT-PCW thick film actuator in liquid decreases order of 1/2-1/4 due to damping effect. The sensitivity of cantilever is characterized by Au deposition method which has the mass loading effect such as adsorption of protein. The Sensitivity of PZT-0.12PCW thick film cantilever is proportional to detecting area.
This paper proposes an analysis method based on the magnitude-phase dynamic theory for isolated power systems with static synchronous compensators (STATCOMs). The stability margin of an isolated power system is greatly reduced when a load is connected, due to the disadvantageous features of the self-excited induction generators (SEIGs). To analyze the control process for system stability and to grasp the dynamic characteristics in different timescales, the relationships between the active/reactive components and the phase/magnitude of the STATCOM output voltage are derived in the natural reference frame based on the magnitude/phase dynamic theory. Then STATCOM equivalent mechanical models in both the voltage time scale and the current time scale are built. The proportional coefficients and the integral coefficients of the control process are converted into damping coefficients, inertia coefficients and stiffness coefficients so that analyzing its controls, dynamic response characteristics as well as impacts on the system operations are easier. The effectiveness of the proposed analysis method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

This paper presented a new experimental gain tuning technique for a Multi-Axis Servo System. First, the investigation for proportional gain of velocity control loop by using a Dynamic Signal Analyzer (DSA) was performed. Using the FUNCTION characteristic of DSA based on the Bode plot, the Bode plot of open loop transfer function was obtained. In turn, the integral gain of a servo controller can be found out by using the Integration time constant extracted from the Bode plot of open loop transfer function. In the meanwhile, the positional gain of the servo controller has been obtained by using the Bode plot of the closed loop transfer function. We have also proposed the technique to find out an optimal parameter of a notch filter, which has a great influence on vibration reduction, by using the damping factor extracted from the Bode plot of closed loop transfer function.

The torsional vibration of the propulsion shafting system equipped with viscous damper is investigated. The equivalent system is modeled by a two mass softening system with Duffing's oscillator and the vibratory motion is described by non-linear differential equations of second order. The damper casing is fixed at the front-end of crankshaft and the damper's inertia ring floats in viscous silicon fluid inside of the camper casing. The excitation frenquency is proportional to the rotational speed of engine. The steady state response of the equivalent system is analyzed by the computer and for this analyzing, the harmonic balance method is adopted as a non-linear vibration analysis technique. Frequency response curves are obtained for 1st order resonance only. Jump phenomena are explained. The discriminant for the solutions of the steady state response is derived. Both theoretical and measured results of the propulsion shafting system are compared with and evaluated. As a result of comparisions with both data, it was confirmed that Duffing's oscillator can be used in the modeling of the propulsion shafting system attached with viscous damper with non-linear stiffness.

This paper proposes a model based trajectory tracking control scheme for under-actuated underwater robotic vehicles. The difficulty in stabilizing a non-linear system using smooth static state feedback law means that the design of a feedback controller for an under-actuated system is somewhat challenging. A necessary condition for the asymptotic stability of an under-actuated vehicle about a single equilibrium is that its gravitational field has nonzero elements corresponding to non-actuated dynamics. To overcome this condition, we propose a continuous time-varying control law based on the direct estimation of vehicle dynamic variables such as inertia, damping and Coriolis & centripetal terms. This can work satisfactorily under commonly encountered uncertainties such as an ocean current and parameter variations. The proposed control law cancels the non-linearities in the vehicle dynamics by introducing non-linear elements in the input side. Knowledge of the bounds on uncertain terms is not required and it is conceptually simple and easy to implement. The controller parameter values are designed using the Taguchi robust design approach and the control law is verified analytically to be robust under uncertainties, including external disturbances and current. A comparison of the controller performance with that of a linear proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and sliding mode controller are also provided.

In recent years, it becomes a very important issue to consider the mechanical systems such as high-speed vehicles and railway trains moving on elastic beam structures. In this paper, a general approach, which can predict the dynamic behavior of constrained mechanical system and elastic beam structure, is proposed. Also, various supporting conditions of a foundation support are considered for the elastic beam structures. The elastic structure is assumed to be a nonuniform and linear Bernoulli-Euler beam with proportional damping effect. Combined Differential-Algebraic Equations of motion are derived using multibody dynamics theory and Finite Element Method. The proposed equations of motion can be solved numerically using generalizd coordinate partitioning method and Predictor-Corrector algorithm, which is an implicit multi-step integration method.
