  • The purpose of this study was to identify the body proportions of girls in middle and high school who have been a major sales target of clothing manufacturers and thus to provide the basic information on the proportion of human body, which is essential for manufacturer to produce clothing and for individual consumers to select right apparels to wear and purchase. The subjects were 133 girls in middle school and 141 girls in high school. As measuring instruments, the Martin's anthropometer, tapelines, and belts for marking waistline were used. In order to analyze the data, t-test and factor analysis were used. The measurement of vertical distance between vertex and measuring points, showed a significant difference between the high school group and middle school group in every item. In the comparison of eight head proportion between the two groups, middle school students had 7.2 head proportion while girls in high school had 6.9 head proportion in detail. The factor analysis of major divided body parts of the two groups indicated that waist-hip and hip-crotch, constituting lower trunk together, vertex-apex nasi, and apex nasi-back neck point, constituting head together, back neck point-spina scapula and spina scapula-waist, constituting posterior of upper body together, and mentum-bust point and bust point-waist, constituting anterior of upper body together, were in inverse proportion.

  • According to several pilot tests, petite women have their own body proportion which is not simply an overall diminutive reflection of the proportion of Misses sizes. Apparel manufacturers and pattern companies do not consider racial differences nor do they consider petite women's own specific body proportions in their size categories to produce petite garments. The primary objectives of this study was to describe the petite women's body proportions especially the differences between Asian and Caucasian petite women and to compare their body proportions to the average body figure. A physical body measurement chart was developed and revised through a pretest. Sixty subjects, thirty for each group of Asian and Caucasian. They were landmarked using an anthropometric instrument and photographed using the method of somatography for analysis of body proportions. Data were analyzed by t-test for a description of the petite subject's body proportion. The results of this study indicated that the Caucasian subjects had generally a longer lower torso than tehAian subjects in their body proportions. both subject groups had differnt body proportions from the aerage body figure.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic information about body proportion characteristics, and the level of body cathexis and fit satisfaction related to those characteristics. It is hoped that this will help to improve ready-to-wear satisfaction in middle-aged women. In order to achieve this purpose, the body proportion characteristics of middle-aged women were measured and were compared with that of standard and ideal body types. Then, the body cathexis and fit satisfaction according to these characteristics was analyzed. Finally, the following results were obtained. First, the average height of middle-aged women was 6.87 head, waist length was 58.9% of height, and knee length was 25.6% of height. In frontal appearance, the hip width, shoulder width, and chest width were wider than waist width(24%, 20%, and 11% respectively). Chest and hip depths was thicker than waist depth(19% and 17% respectively). Second, in lengths proportion, their lower body was shorter than the standard body shape for women in their 20s'. Also the difference between the width of frontal appearance and depth proportion of side appearance was small, suggesting a more slender silhouette among the middle aged women. Finally, middle-aged women who were not wide or big in the chest had higher satisfaction with their bodies. As shoulder width and chest depth became small, the fit satisfaction of upper clothes increased. While longer lower body had higher fit satisfaction with pants crotch, shorter lower body had higher fit satisfaction with waist and abdominal parts.

  • This study suggested criterion for Petite-size and analyzed the body size and characteristics that were proper to manufacture clothing for Korean Petite-size women aged 18 to 34. It also analyzed size information about pattern making for Petite-size women through a comparison of the size and proportion of Petite-size with Regular-size. The criterion of Petite-size was decided in consideration of the distribution and perception of stature; subsequently, the stature range for Petite-size was defined as under 157.5cm. Body size and proportion of Petite-size were analyzed through calculating the mean from 25 to 75 percentiles of a Petite-size stature range. The Petite-size of this study was compared to KS Petite and total subjects through One way ANOVA. It was confirmed that the Petite-size of this study had body characteristics like KS Petite; however, Petite-size was larger in height and vertical length than KS Petite. The significant differences between Petite-size and Regular-size were identified in the same bust girth range, that required a revised calculation formula for pattern making that would be proper for Petite-size. It is expected that the Body size and proportion could be utilized as a reference for manufacturing or purchasing Petite-size clothing. The result of this study will contribute to enhance the fit satisfaction for Petite-size women aged 18 to 34.

  • In this paper, we propose a technique for tracking the classification and location of each user through body proportion analysis of the normalized skeletons of multiple users obtained using RGB-D cameras. To this end, each user's 3D skeleton is extracted from the 3D point cloud and body proportion information is stored. After that, the stored body proportion information is compared with the body proportion data output from the entire frame to propose a user classification and location tracking algorithm in the entire image.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the self consciousness of one's body cathexis with other people's. The sample subjects were 97 females between 18 and 24 years old. They were measured on November 1999 with the anthropometric measuring, and their front and side photographs were taken. First, we investigated the size recognition of 5 body parts and ready-made clothing, the consciousness of the size of 5 body parts and body proportion for subjects. Second, we organized panel group consisted of 30 females in twenties majoring the Clothing & Textiles. The consciousness of panel group to the subject's body proportion was investigated by using the front and side photographs of subjects, and was compared with self consciousness of subjects. Data were analyzed by frequency analysis and correlation analysis. Most of subjects recognized their status, bustgirth and waistgirth larger than their real size, but they recognized their hipgirth smaller than their real size and their weight similar to their real weight. And subjects were conscious of their status and bustgirth small, their weight, waistgith and hipgirth proper or a little big, and their body proportion normal or a little unbalanced. The self consciousness of one's body cathexis was related to heights of each part especially, and subjects had a tendency to appreciate their body proportion positively if they recognized themselves tall and thin. Upon comparison of the consciousness of subject's body between subjects themselves and panel group, the appreciation of panel group was better than those of subjects themselves. And we also certified the difference of consciousness of one's body cathexis between oneself and other people. The consciousness of other people was related to the size of each body part, but the self consciousness was predicted that it was more related to the psychological factor including satisfaction or preference.

  • PURPOSE: This research investigated clinical hazardous components and analyzed the proportion of sarcopenia among young Korean women. METHODS: The cross-sectional study included 1,236 women aged 20 to 29 years, categorized into two groups according to their skeletal muscle mass index (SMI). Of these, 20 participants were placed in the sarcopenia group, while 1,216 were included in the normal group. The analysis involved hazardous components including body dimensions, clinical indicators, and behavioral trait variables: height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, skeletal muscle mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, blood laboratory tests assessing fasting glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, as well as smoking habits and alcohol consumption. Complex sampling analysis was used to analyze the proportion and hazardous components of sarcopenia. RESULTS: The proportion of sarcopenia was at 1.76% (95% of CI: 1.08-2.83). Anthropometric measurements, such as height, BMI, and WC, exhibited significant differences between the groups (p < .05). However, there was no significant difference in weight (p > .05) between the two groups. Among the clinical indicators, SBP, DBP, FBG, serum triglycerides, and total TC found to be significant hazardous components for sarcopenia within both groups (p < .05). Smoking status as a behavioral trait was significant as well (p < .05), unlike alcohol consumption (p > .05). CONCLUSION: This study discerned both the proportion of sarcopenia and the hazardous components associated with it among community-dwelling women of a young age.
