A geochemical study on the saline waters circulating in an ash disposal pond of Seocheon Power Plant. Korea

  • This study was carried out to understand the geochemistry of saline water circulating in an ash disposal pond of Seocheon power plant, Korea. For this study, ash pond waters, slurry water and seawater samples were collected and analyzed for major ions and trace elements. Results show that ash pond waters and slurry water are alkaline in nature due to high calcium content, and have high concentration of Ca, B, Li, As, Ba, Al, Si and Mn over seawater, suggest that these elements leached from fly ash even at high alkaline condition and ionic strength. Slurry water has high concentration of B, Ba, Li, Mn, Si and Sr compare to ash pond waters, expresses that these elements seem to be easily reached at initial stage fly ash-water interaction, and also might be associated with the surface of the fly ash particles. Additionally, PHREEQC program predicted several secondary solid phases, which are also influenced in the leaching of elements in to the saline water.

Analysis of Related Factors on Middle School Student Smoking in Korea (우리나라 중학생의 흡연실태와 관련 요인 분석)

  • Purpose : This study are the secondary data of Global Youth Tobacco Survey(GYTS) developed by the WHO and United State Center for Disease Control(CDC) and Prevention to trace tobacco use among youth in youth in countries across the world. This study was carried out to serve for a basis for antismoking campaigns and to prevent adolescents from smoking by analyzing the smoking by analyzing the smoking realities factors. Methods : This study is a cross-sectional school-based survey, which employed a two-stage cluster sample design to produce a nationally representative sample of middle school students aged 13 to 15 years olds. Seventy-five schools were selected. All schools containing grade 1, 2 and 3 that contained 40 or students were included in the sampling frame. Results : The results of this study were as follows ; 1. The proportion of smoking students in middle school was 6.4% and the rate of smoking in male students(7.4%) was higher than it of in female students(5.5%). 2. 26.5% of all respondent had a experience to try smoke and the results showed that the rate of trying smoking in male students was increased by grade more than female students. 3. According to test of significance in regression analysis, the independent variables such as sex, school grade, smoking parents, friends distinction, pocket money and others showed statistical significance. 4. There was a statistical significance between smokers and nonsmokers in proportion to the completing the preventive education for nonsmoking(p=0.0023) and the acquirement of knowledge on smoking(p<.0001). 5. Finally there was a statistical significance between the exposure to anti-smoking campaign(p=0.0053) and tobacco advertisement in the mass media and the smoking(p=0.0036). Conclusion : All things considered, the health education for tobacco control in school need to be developed from an elementary school. I suggest that prevent smoking program in school need to be revitalized and be made more accessible for everyone who wish to quit. And the government should develop the regulation on total banning promoting cigarette advertising and smoking scene in the movie for young people.

Study of an innovative two-stage control system: Chevron knee bracing & shear panel in series connection

  • This paper describes analytical investigation into a new dual function system including a couple of shear links which are connected in series using chevron bracing capable to correlate its performance with magnitude of earthquakes. In this proposed system, called Chevron Knee-Vertical Link Beam braced system (CK-VLB), the inherent hysteretic damping of vertical link beam placed above chevron bracing is exclusively utilized to dissipate the energy of moderate earthquakes through web plastic shear distortion while the rest of the structural elements are in elastic range. Under strong earthquakes, plastic deformation of VLB will be halted via restraining it by Stopper Device (SD) and further imposed displacement subsequently causes yielding of the knee elements located at the bottom of chevron bracing to significantly increase the energy dissipation capacity level. In this paper first by studying the knee yielding mode, a suitable shape and angle for diagonal-knee bracing is proposed. Then finite elements models are developed. Monotonic and cyclic analyses have been conducted to compare dissipation capacities on three individual models of passive systems (CK-VLB, knee braced system and SPS system) by General-purpose finite element program ABAQUS in which a bilinear kinematic hardening model is incorporated to trace the material nonlinearity. Also quasi-static cyclic loading based on the guidelines presented in ATC-24 has been imposed to different models of CK-VLB with changing of vertical link beam section in order to find prime effectiveness on structural frames. Results show that CK-VLB system exhibits stable behavior and is capable of dissipating a significant amount of energy in two separate levels of lateral forces due to different probable earthquakes.

  • This study was performed to measure the mandibular movement and the changes of masicatory and sternocleidomastoid muscle activity reflected by occlusal disturbance during habitual chewing. For this study, 18 subjects(14 males and 4 females with an average age of 24.0) were selected. The impression of each subject were taken for measuring intermolar distance on lower dentition. The activities of masticatory and sternocleidomastoid muscle and the mandibular movement were recorded and analyzed during habitual chewing by means of E.M.G.(electromyograph), E.G.N.(electrognathograph), rotate program in BioPak analyzing system(BioResearch Inc.).   • Recently, the supply ratio of smart devices application has become increasable, utilization of device increases constantly. At the same time, used application is more gentrified. However, using time of devices is decreased. To solve these problems, many research is studying about the hardware/software. One of them is profiling power consumption by process units. The process can be managed, based on measured energy consumption data. These means that it can efficiently use the residual energy. Application at the stage of program design can analyze and used-energy using the trace by considering the low-power can design. In this paper, we studied software-based power-metering framework for android platform. We survey each process-level power consumption measurement techniques, compare advantages and disadvantages of the technique and propose improved measures.

Test Case Grouping and Filtering for Better Performance of Spectrum-based Fault Localization (결함위치식별 기법의 성능 향상을 위한 테스트케이스 그룹화 및 필터링 기법)

  • Spectrum-based fault localization (SFL) method assigns a suspicious ratio. The statement is strongly affected by a failed test case compared to a passed test case. A failed test case assigns a suspicious ratio while a passed test case reduces some parts of assigned suspicious ratio. In the absence of a failed test case, it is impossible to localize the fault. Thus, a failed test case is very important for fault localization. However, spectrum-based fault localization has difficulty in reflecting the unique characteristics of a failed test because a failed test case and a passed test case are input at the same time to calculate a suspicious ratio. This paper supplements for this limitation and suggests a test case grouping method for more accurate fault localization. In addition, this paper suggested a filtering method considering test efficiency and verified the effectiveness by applying 65 algorithms. In 90 % of whole methods, the accuracy was improved by 13% and the effectiveness was improved by 72% based on EXAM score.

Small group of protostellar objects: L1251C

  • We present molecular line observations of a small group of Young Stellar Objects (YSOs), L1251C. Observations by Spitzer Space Telescope legacy program "From Molecular Cores to Planet Forming Disks"(c2d; Evans et al. 2003) revealed that there are three YSOs within ~15" in L1251C: IRS1 (Class I), IRS2 (Class II), and IRS3 (Class II). In order to understand the molecular environment around these YSOs, we carried out the KVN single-dish observations in $HCO^+$ J=1-0, $H^{13}CO^+$ J=1-0, $N_2H^+$ J=1-0 and HCN J=1-0. CO J=1-0 was also mapped in L1251C with the TRAO 14m telescope. Integrated intensity maps of high density tracers such as $H^{13}CO^+$ J=1-0, $N_2H^+$ J=1-0 and HCN J=1-0 show similar emission distributions, whose peaks are off from the positions of YSOs. However, $HCO^+$ J=1-0, which is believed to trace both infall and outflow, presents its emission distribution different from those of other molecular transitions. The line profile of $HCO^+$ J=1-0 is superimposed by two velocity (narrow and broad) components. The $HCO^+$ outflow map reveals multiple structures while the CO outflow map elongates mainly along the EW direction. With the KVN single dish, the 22 GHz $H_2O$ maser emission has been also monitored toward L1251C to find variations of the systemic velocity and intensity with time.

  • This study suggests a design for an analytical software program and method for multitasking e-sports viewing through the web using an eye tracking device. To fulfill this task, we designed a Window of Interest (WOI) to measure and record visually on a screen wherever numerous multitasking activities occur. In addition, we developed an OBS (Opensource Broadcaster Software) plug-in that records and streams participant viewing behavior patterns in real time. The purpose of this study is as follows. First, unlike existing tools that limit web interface recording to still images, the developed tool can record dynamically via media such as videos. Second, when several windows are processed on a screen, the tool can accurately record the gaze positions of the participants. Lastly, the tool can enhance the objective validity of the data as it can be implemented in natural situations. Therefore, this study can trace natural viewing patterns and behavior as we do not create artificial experimental environments and stimuli.

  • Aspect Oriented Programming(AOP) is a relatively new programming paradigm and has properties that other programming paradigms don't have. This new programming paradigm provides new modularization of software systems by cross-cutting concerns. In this paper, we propose a regression test method for program evolution by AOP. By using JoinPoint, we can catch a pointcut-name which makes it possible to test the incorrect pointcut strength fault and the incorrect aspect precedence fault. Through extending proof rules to aspect, we can recognize failures to establish expected postconditions faults. We can also trace variables using set() and get() pointcut and test failures to preserve state invariant fault. Using control flow graph, we can test incorrect changes in control dependencies faults. In order to show the correctness of our proposed method, channel management system is implemented and tested by using proposed methods.

3,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB77) enhances human Kv1.3 channel currents and alters cytokine production

  • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were once used throughout various industries; however, because of their persistence in the environment, exposure remains a global threat to the environment and human health. The Kv1.3 and Kv1.5 channels have been implicated in the immunotoxicity and cardiotoxicity of PCBs, respectively. We determined whether 3,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB77), a dioxin-like PCB, alters human Kv1.3 and Kv1.5 currents using the Xenopus oocyte expression system. Exposure to 10 nM PCB77 for 15 min enhanced the Kv1.3 current by approximately 30.6%, whereas PCB77 did not affect the Kv1.5 current at concentrations up to 10 nM. This increase in the Kv1.3 current was associated with slower activation and inactivation kinetics as well as right-shifting of the steady-state activation curve. Pretreatment with PCB77 significantly suppressed tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-10 production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated Raw264.7 macrophages. Overall, these data suggest that acute exposure to trace concentrations of PCB77 impairs immune function, possibly by enhancing Kv1.3 currents.
