  • The present study aims to investigate how general education EFL instructors who teach in a higher education institution in Korea perceive mixed-ability classes and the teaching strategies that they utilized to teach learners who have varying English proficiency levels and may have different instructional needs. Twenty instructors at a higher education institution in Korea who teach general education EFL courses participated in a questionnaire and three of the twenty instructors participated in follow-up interviews. The findings from the questionnaire and interviews showed that instructors' experiences teaching mixed-ability classes were positive. They offered clear guidelines for participation to help motivate learners and found that higher level students helped lower level students through group work. The instructors also felt that ESP could be a possibility in mixed-ability classes to meet the learners educational needs.

  • This research investigated whether inter-word spaces, the spaces between words, can affect the efficiency of Korean-speaking CSL(Chinese as a second language) learners in Chinese reading of Korean-speaking's ability to read Chinese. Through eye movement tracking experiments, CSL learners of different proficiency levels(beginning, intermediate, and advanced) and native Chinese readers were asked to read Chinese sentences with and without inter-word spaces. The tests analysed the participants' fixation counts and the time spent in reading each sentences and also between each words. In terms of the fixation counts and time spent between sentences, the results show that there were no significant difference in participants' fixation counts from reading sentences with and without inter-word spaces. The results also prove that reading sentences with inter-word spaces significantly shortened the reading time for both CSL learners and native Chinese readers. Even for the participants' fixation counts and time duration between each words, participants spent significantly less fixation counts and reading time while reading words with inter-word spaces. The results were more prominent and positive in tests conducted with CSL learners of lower proficiency. This research shows that inter-word spaces in Chinese texts can enhance the efficiency of chinese learners' reading ability.

  • In an era where construction projects are becoming increasingly large and complex, the Korean construction industry faces the challenge of implementing systematic and cohesive schedule management practices. This study initially delineates the concept of schedule management capabilities, systematically categorizing them into five distinct domains: law and regulations, requirements of project owners, capabilities of professionals and organizations, task capability, and the adoption of smart construction technologies for schedule management. Through a survey targeting industry professionals, this research assesses the perceived importance and the actual proficiency level in schedule management across these categories, employing an Importance Performance Analysis(IPA) to scrutinize these capabilities. The findings underscore the acknowledged significance of diverse aspects of schedule management, yet reveal discrepancies between the current proficiency levels and their perceived importance, pinpointing areas necessitating enhancement. Critical improvement needs identified encompass the planning of budgets for schedule management, development of regulations for assessing construction periods, deployment of specialized on-site staff for schedule management, and investment in advanced schedule management software solutions. Consequently, this study offers a nuanced analysis and strategic insights for enhancing schedule management practices, aiming to facilitate their effective implementation in the field.

  • This study aims to suggest lesson plans and evaluation methods for primary pre-service teachers by reviewing the concept of computational thinking(CT) skills and its sub components. To pursue this goal, a literature review has been conducted in regards to CT and the effectiveness of programming courses. In addition, the Scratch educational programming functions were analyzed yielding six CT elements(data representation, problem decomposition, abstraction, algorithm & procedures, parallelization, simulation). With these six elements, one semester lesson plans for 15 weeks that represent the connections with six CT elements were designed. Based on the PECT(Progression of Early Computational Thinking) model and the CT framework a rubric to evaluate learners' proficiency levels(basic, developing, proficient) revealed in their final projects was developed as well. Upon a follow-up empirical study, the lesson plans and the rubric suggested in the current study are expected to be utilized in teachers' colleges.

  • In order to investigate variables related to the life satisfaction of women from the multi-cultural families, this study collected relevant studies and applied meta-analysis. As a result, it was found, first, their life satisfaction was between the small effect size and the moderate effect size, on the basis of the relevant variables and Cohen's standards(1992). Second, of the sub variables of their individual characteristic variable, Korean proficiency and nationality acquisition were found to be the small effect size. Third, of the sub variables of their psychological variable and multiple culture-related variable, the effect sizes of self-esteem and the receptive attitude towards multiple cultures were found to be between the moderate effect size and the large effect size. Fourth, the sub variables of their social support variable were found to be generally highly correlated with their life satisfaction. Fifth, the sub variables of daily life and spouse-related variables showed very low levels of effect size overall. This study suggested conclusions and limitations of the research based on the results of the above analyses.

  • In the recent farming industry, there is a growing diffusion of drones, which are recognized as a crucial technology of the 4 th industrial revolution to cope with aging. Especially, filming and pest control using drones are representative fields that have different age groups for obtaining a national license of multicopter that is a ultra-light flying device, and can create profits after getting a license. However, pest control technology using drones has different spray effects depending on levels of operational proficiency, since this highly relies on an operator's operating skills. It is anticipated that if this issue is supplemented, the use of drones for pest control in the farming industry will diversify. For analysis of spraying characteristics of agricultural pest control drones, this study aims to formulate effective spraying hours and effective spraying intervals and suggest an algorithm, which facilitates an accurate calculation of pest control area depending on the kinds of pest control drones. This algorithm can be used in the field of pest control by improving scatterling issues caused by drone flight methods of drone pest controllers and building an optimum pest control manual in future.

  • To help users who are experiencing difficulties finding the right learning course corresponding to their level of proficiency, we developed a recommendation model for personalized learning course for Intelligence Tutoring System(ITS). The Personalized Learning Course Recommendation model for ITS analyzes the learner profile and extracts the keyword by calculating the weight of each word. The similarity of vector between extracted words is measured through the cosine similarity method. Finally, the three courses of top similarity are recommended for learners. To analyze the effects of the recommendation model, we applied the recommendation model to the Women's ability development center. And mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis values of question items were calculated through the satisfaction survey. The results of the experiment showed high satisfaction levels in accuracy, novelty, self-reference and usefulness, which proved the effectiveness of the recommendation model. This study is meaningful in the sense that it suggested a learner-centered recommendation system based on machine learning, which has not been researched enough both in domestic, foreign domains.

  • Conventional assessments only provide a single summary score that indicates the overall performance level or achievement level of a student in a single learning area. For assessments to be more effective, test should provide useful diagnostic information in addition to single overall scores. Cognitive diagnosis modeling provides useful information by estimating individual knowledge states by assessing whether an examinee has mastered specific attributes measured by the test(Embretson, 1990; DiBello, Stout, & Rousses, 1995; Tatsuoka, 1995). Attributes are skills or cognitive processes that are required to perform correctly on a particular item. By the results of this study, students, parents, and teachers would be able to see where a student stands with respect to mastering the attributes. Such information could be used to guide the learner and teacher toward areas requiring more study. By being able to assess where they stand in regard to the attributes that compose an item, students can plan a more effective learning path to be desired proficiency levels. It would be very helpful to the examinee if score reports can provide the scale scores as well as the skill profiles. While the scale scores are believed to provide students' math ability by reporting only one score point, the skill profiles can offer a skill level of strong, weak or mixed for each student for each skill.
