  • Labor productivity is a significant factor related to control time, cost, and quality. Many researchers have developed models to define method of measuring the relationship between productivity and various constraints such as the size of working area, maximum working hours, and the crew composition. Most of the previous research has focused on estimating productivity; however, this research concentrates on estimating labor productivity and developing time and cost data for repetitive concrete pouring activity. In Korea, "Standard Estimating" only contains the average productivity data of the construction industry, and it is difficult to predict the time and cost of any particular project; hence, there are some errors in estimating duration and cost for individual activity and project. To address these issues, this research collects data, measures productivity, and develops time and cost data using labor productivity based on field conditions from the collected data. A probabilistic approach is also proposed to develop data. A case study is performed to validate this process using actual data collected from construction sites and it is possible that the result will be used as the EVMS baseline of cost management and schedule management.

  • Due to the labor-intensiveness, high investment cost, long execution time, frequent change orders, and many stakeholders in a BIM project, a BIM manager is bound to face a lot of risks to make decisions in cost managing process. Since the productivity of a BIM team will affect the execution cost, this study investigates a simple method of assessing the productivity of a BIM team using the working timesheet records of the team. In this research, the productivity of a BIM team is defined as the effective working floor area (in square meters) of BIM uses per labor-time (in man-months) spent by the team. After the applicability of this method is tested by regression analysis using data from 5 real BIM projects in the construction phase, it is found that the simple productivity definition adopted in the method, although easy-to-implement, does not produce a statistically constant productivity value. More research is therefore needed in the future to devise better indicator(s) for assessing the productivity of a BIM team.

  • In modern Construction Industry, as accumulation of capital and improvement of technology skills, buildings are becoming higher and more enormous, also the portion of steel works has been increasing. In addition, it is necessary to predict the optimum level of construction cost in a reasonable way. The composition of construction is direct construction cost, indirect construction cost and so on. However, it is not enough to study about indirect construction cost rather than direct construction cost. In this study, the state of productivity and indirect construction cost are analyzed in the steel production. As a result, the productivity and ratio of indirect cost in steel plant by inserted per 1ton are suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the impacts of technological innovation and cost management on productivity in small shipping industries to come up with developmental implications. To achieve this, a survey was carried out to 150 workers in small shipbuilding industries through April 2 to April 20, 2012. As for findings stated above, technological innovation and cost management in the Korean small shipbuilding industries were key factors that elevate financial and non-financial productivity. In the light of low technological prowess and cost structure of small shipbuilding industries, their productivity can be improved when intensive cost management with production factor technology as know-how is realized through quality management, which product development technology is the top priority as an independent niche strategy. Consequently, the combination of infrastructures in small shipbuilding industries with continuous efforts for cost reduction by the link to the systematized structure can't only secure their independent competitiveness, but raise their productivity.

Productivity and Cost of Tree-length Harvesting Using Cable Yarding System in a Larch (Larix leptolepis) Clear-cutting Stand

  • The purpose of this study was to examine productivity and cost of tree-length harvesting using cable yarding system in a larch (Larix leptolepis) clear-cutting stand located in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. We used tree-length harvesting method using cable yarding system with a tower yarder HAM300. The productivity was $17.6m^3/hr$ for felling, $12.4m^3/hr$ for delimbing, $4.2m^3/hr$ for yarding, and $8.1m^3/hr$ for processing. The total cost of the harvesting system was $48,381won/m^3$, which was majorly composed of yarding operation cost, at $40,169won/m^3$ (79.3%), while felling had the lowest cost at $1,154won/m^3$ (4.1%). Major factors affecting felling and processing productivity was tree volume and the number and thickness of branches for delimbing productivity. In addition, we suggest that training and education for machine operators were critical to improve yarding productivity.

국내 제조 산업의 R&D 투자가 수출에 미치는 영향: 제품경쟁력과 원가경쟁력의 매개효과를 중심으로 (The Effects of R&D Investments on Exports in the Korean Manufacturing Industry: Focusing on Mediating Effects of Product and Cost Competitiveness)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 국내 제조 산업의 R&D 투자가 산업의 제품경쟁력과 원가경쟁력의 증대를 통해 높여 수출에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는데 있다. 이를 위해 한국 제조업을 대상으로 20개 업종별로 2004년-2014년도의 자료를 이용해 실증분석 하였으며, 산업의 제품 경쟁력을 신제품 혁신역량과 품질경쟁력으로, 산업의 원가경쟁력을 노동생산성과 자본생산성으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 경로분석을 통해 검증한 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제조 산업의 R&D 투자가 증가 할수록 산업의 신제품 혁신역량, 품질경쟁력, 노동생산성, 자본생산성이 증가하였다. 둘째, R&D투자로 증대된 제조업의 품질경쟁력, 노동생산성, 자본생산성의 향상은 수출 증가에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 따라서 한국 제조 산업의 R&D 투자는 품질경쟁력과 원가경쟁력의 강화를 통해 산업의 수출 증대에 긍정적 효과를 미친다는 것을 확인하였다.

관절병증 질환자의 의료이용에 따른 의료비 및 생산성 손실비용 연구 (Medical expenses and lost productivity costs due to the medical use of research arthropathy disease)

  • 본 연구는 관절병증질환자의 의료이용에 따른 의료비와 생산성손실비용 조사하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 위하여 2012년 한국의료패널 총 5,434가구, 15,872명을 이용하여 만19세 이상 관절병증질환자는 1,370명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구방법은 응급의료이용, 입원의료이용, 외래의료이용에 대한 평균의료이용횟수와 의료비를 구하였고, 연간관절병증 질환자의 응급생산성손실비용은 2012년 1일 평균임금 ${\times}$ N ${\times}$ 평균의료비를 곱하여 산출하였다. 연간응급 의료이용횟수는 1회, 의료비는 42,128,870원, 생산성손실비용은 98,640,000원이였다. 연간입원의료이용횟수는 4.79회, 의료비는 42,128,870원, 생산성손실비용은 945,036,820원이였다. 연간외래의료이용횟수는 12.7회, 의료비는 42,128,870원, 생산성손실비용은 91,252,728,000원이였다. 이상과 같은 결과를 바탕으로 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 관절병증의 발생은 의료비증가와 생산성저하에 영향을 미칠 수 있으며 가구 및 환자에 있어 큰 부담이며 삶의 질도 저하될 것이다, 관절병증질환의 감소를 위한 운동 및 관리에 철저한 검토가 필요하다.

전처리 식재료 사용이 학교급식 생산성과 만족도에 미치는 영향 (Effectiveness of the Preprocessed Foods on Productivity and Satisfaction in School Foodservices)

  • Fresh-cut foods have been widely used in the school foodservice industry due to their convenience and saving effects of labor and working hours. This study evaluated the effectiveness of using fresh-cut foods in school foodservice with respect to cost efficiency, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and productivity. First, in terms of cost efficiency, the cost of the fresh-cut food per meal price significantly increased by 2.6% via the new production plan. Meanwhile, the costs of labor and food wastes significantly decreased by 3.0% and 0.3%, respectively, after implementing the new plan. Second, customer satisfaction towards foodservice significantly increased, from 2.94 points prior to the new plan to 3.45 points. Third, foodservice productivity such as of the number of meals per full-time equivalent employee increased by 5.7 meals, from 143.0 meals to 148.7 meals after intervention. The productivity index of work hours for producing a meal also increased and was reflected by a work time reduction of 0.77 minutes, specifically from 4.25 minutes to 3.48 minutes. The labor cost per meal also decreased by 29.9 won, from 331.91 won to 301.97 won, but there was no significant difference. Through these results, we identified that using pre-process foods in school foodservice has positive effects on labor saving, customer satisfaction, and employee work satisfaction.
