Automated Supervision of Data Production - Managing the Creation of Statistical Reports on Periodic Data

  • Data production systems are generally very large, distributed and complex systems used for creating advanced (mainly statistical) reports. Typically, data is gathered periodically and then subsequently aggregated and separated during numerous production steps. These production steps are arranged in a specific sequence (workflow or production chain), and can be located worldwide. Today, a need for improving and automating methods of supervision for data production systems has been recognized. Supervision in this context entails planning, monitoring and controlling data production. Two significant approaches are introduced here for improving this supervision. The first is a 'closely-coupledd' approach (meaning direct communication between production jobs and supervisory tool, informing the supervisory tod immediately about delays in production) - based upon traditional production planning methods typically used for manufacturing (goods) and adopted for working with data production. The second is a 'loosely-coupled' approach (meaning no direct communication between supervisory tool and production jobs is used) - having its origins in proven traditional project management. The supervisory tool just enquires continuously the progress of production. In both cases, dates, costs, resources, and system health information is made available to management. production operators and administrators to support a timely and smooth production of periodic data. Both approaches are theoretically described and compared. The main finding is that, both are useful, but in different cases. The main advantages of the closely coupled approach are the large production optimisation potential and a production overview in form of a job execution plan, whereas the loosely coupled method mainly supports unhindered job execution and offers a sophisticated production overview in form of a milestone schedule. Ideas for further research include investigation of other potential approaches and theoretical and practical comparison.

  • 다품종 소량 생산으로 제조 업체의 전산 업무 관리가 매우 복잡해지고 있고, 전산 시스템이 급속히 변하며 환경이 복잡해지고 있으며. 전산에 입력해야 할 데이터들은 많아지고 있다 그래서 제조 업체의 근태 및 입출고 전표, 작업 일보 데이터를 사람이 일일이 입력하기엔 많은 전산 단말기와 용량이 큰 시스템을 요구하고 있으며, 현장 데이터의 실시간 처리 및 확인이 어려운 상태이다. 본 논문에서 제안된 P.O.P(Point Of Production) 단말기를 이용한 생산통신관리 시스템은 제조 업체 현장에 P.O.P 단말기를 설치하여 현장에서 일어나는 모든 입출고 및 생산 데이터를 생산 시점에서 입력 할 수 있는 기능을 가진 시스템을 설계하고 구현한다.

  • Development of IT and electronics industries has make our life more convenient, yet at the cost of radio communication noise, malfunctioning of electronic appliance and risks against human health all resulting from EMI. Many states are tightening their EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) regulations around the world and the EMI regulatory measures are likely to increase in terms of targets and types. Against this backdrop, this paper aims to introduce fundamental and adequate EMI countermeasures encompassing product production cycle from design to production stage.

  • Many SME have difficulties in marketing activities from early product and technology development because of lack of internal marketing abilities. This paper presents the strategy for the public information service providing so that the marketing oriented information system should provide appropriate information in every step of production from raw material procurement, processing, outsourcing, sales to collaboration. A prototype of marketing information system is implemented in terms of product information, market information, technology information and enterprise information.

  • Now, the Korean footwear industry needs the concrete enhancement of its competitive edge for regaining of its previous well known reputation. For this purpose, this study emphasizes the cooperation between the members through the supply chain of Korean footwear industry, as a c-SCM(Collaborative Supply Chain Management) by aid of information system. The key issue will be how well to coordinate operations flow not only through internal process stages, but also through entire external supply chain stages. In other words, the target goal must be the system optimization through the entire supply chain beyond the local optimization of internal supply chain process. We, at first, analyze the traditional structure of supply chain in Korean footwear industry and find out critical problems, and then, we develop the collaborative information framework in conjunction with several collaborative process modules. The suggested collaborative production & supply planning system was designed for sharing information and it is based on ebXML(electronic business eXtensible Markup Language) framework. In this way, the enhancement of the efficiency and competitiveness can be expected through the synergy effect of coordination of information and material flow, the reduction of lead times, and production costs.

Mobile Point-of-Sales System (모바일 판매 시점 관리 시스템)

  • We propose a mobile point-of-sale system, which consists of only mobile information terminals and personal computers. The proposed system provides most of functionalities related with resource planning, adminstration and management, provided by medium-scale or large-scale POS systems, with additional functionalities, such as automatic information gathering and management through mobile interconnection, while eliminating the necessity of additional special-purpose devices, such as bar-code systems. The proposed system transmits order information through wireless and wired communication lines, thus allowing real-time sharing of order information among diverse information devices, such as mobile order receiving terminals, main server within stores, monitors and printers located in production lines. Also, the system is able to transfer such detail information produced within stores in real-time to the enterprise-level accounting, sales, logistics, personnel management system, which facilitate enterprise-wide management and administrative decision-making. No additional programs are required for mobile terminals. Order information received by such terminals are entered into databases through web server of main server and that information is again transferred to main server and production line printers. The proposed system can handle all the point-of-sale information and can provide almost of the POS functionalities by simply utilizing wireless internet, personal computers, and mobile terminals without installing specific-purpose peripheral devices. The proposed system can be widely applied to the small-scale stores and will contribute in reducing construction and maintenance cost required for point-of-sale management.

  • The framework for making a coordinated decision for large-scale facilities has become an important issue in supply chain(SC) management research. The competitive business environment requires companies to continuously search for the ways to achieve high efficiency and lower operational costs. In the areas of production/distribution planning, many researchers and practitioners have developedand evaluated the deterministic models to coordinate important and interrelated logistic decisions such as capacity management, inventory allocation, and vehicle routing. They initially have investigated the various process of SC separately and later become more interested in such problems encompassing the whole SC system. The accurate quotation of ATP(Available-To-Promise) plays a very important role in enhancing customer satisfaction and fill rate maximization. The complexity for intelligent manufacturing system, which includes all the linkages among procurement, production, and distribution, makes the accurate quotation of ATP be a quite difficult job. In addition to, many researchers assumed ATP model with integer time. However, in industry practices, integer times are very rare and the model developed using integer times is therefore approximating the real system. Various alternative models for an ATP system with time lags have been developed and evaluated. In most cases, these models have assumed that the time lags are integer multiples of a unit time grid. However, integer time lags are very rare in practices, and therefore models developed using integer time lags only approximate real systems. The differences occurring by this approximation frequently result in significant accuracy degradations. To introduce the ATP model with time lags, we first introduce the dynamic production function. Hackman and Leachman's dynamic production function in initiated research directly related to the topic of this paper. They propose a modeling framework for a system with non-integer time lags and show how to apply the framework to a variety of systems including continues time series, manufacturing resource planning and critical path method. Their formulation requires no additional variables or constraints and is capable of representing real world systems more accurately. Previously, to cope with non-integer time lags, they usually model a concerned system either by rounding lags to the nearest integers or by subdividing the time grid to make the lags become integer multiples of the grid. But each approach has a critical weakness: the first approach underestimates, potentially leading to infeasibilities or overestimates lead times, potentially resulting in excessive work-inprocesses. The second approach drastically inflates the problem size. We consider an optimized ATP system with non-integer time lag in supply chain management. We focus on a worldwide headquarter, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities are globally networked. We develop a mixed integer programming(MIP) model for ATP process, which has the definition of required data flow. The illustrative ATP module shows the proposed system is largely affected inSCM. The system we are concerned is composed of a multiple production facility with multiple products, multiple distribution centers and multiple customers. For the system, we consider an ATP scheduling and capacity allocationproblem. In this study, we proposed the model for the ATP system in SCM using the dynamic production function considering the non-integer time lags. The model is developed under the framework suitable for the non-integer lags and, therefore, is more accurate than the models we usually encounter. We developed intelligent ATP System for this model using genetic algorithm. We focus on a capacitated production planning and capacity allocation problem, develop a mixed integer programming model, and propose an efficient heuristic procedure using an evolutionary system to solve it efficiently. This method makes it possible for the population to reach the approximate solution easily. Moreover, we designed and utilized a representation scheme that allows the proposed models to represent real variables. The proposed regeneration procedures, which evaluate each infeasible chromosome, makes the solutions converge to the optimum quickly.

  • One of the major functions of rural extension services is to transfer agricultural technologies and information, and advanced new agricultural techniques developed by research institutes, which are meaningful when they are transferred to farmers for practicl application. Information materials can be transferred in the form of newspapers, radio and television broadcasting, printed materials, audio-visual aids, and public communication networks. Agricultural information systems in the era of localization should be oriented toward county extension services, and the following points should be emphasized for more effective dissemination of agricultural technologies : 1) Central organization of the Rural Development Administration should put more emphasis on the production and dissemination of agricultural information to support activities of extension agents at the county level. 2) An Agricultural information center should be established for more effective collection, analysis, processing, production and dissemination of various agri-related information. 3) An advanced and unified network system should be adopted for more accuate and rapid information flow throughout the country, and reinforcement of manpower and facility at the county level should be emphasized for more effective dissemination of agricultural information.

  • This paper is about information technology of creation of mobile (of rapid deployment) security systems of the area perimeter. This system appears to be a complex of models and methods, information, software and hardware means that are interacted with users during decision-making and control of implementation for management solutions. The proposed information technology aimed at improving the protection level for security departments by automating the process of dangers detection for perimeters and decision-making for alarm. The structural model of the system, the model of system's components interaction and the model of identifying the subjects of emergencies threats have been proposed. A method for identifying unauthorized access to the perimeter of the protected object, using the production model of knowledge representation, was created. It is a set of linguistic expressions (such as "IF-THEN") and knowledge matrix. The method of ranking for objects, which are threats of unauthorized access to the perimeter for protected area, has been proposed. Practical value of work consists in the possibility of the use this information technology by perimeter's security systems of various objects. Proposed models are complete and suitable for the hardware and software implementation.

A Study on the Integrated Management System for Rebar Information in Building Construction (건설공사 철근정보관리 개선방안에 관한 연구)

  • With labor shortage and high-wage, the construction cost is rising and the construction-business is dull, demanding the construction environment of Korea to raise profitability through major cost savings and rationalization of construction management. Therefore, in this study, to improve many problems found in calculating rebar quantity for capital expenditure programming which is considered the beginning stage of rebar work. and to improve problems such as no grasping of rebar loss due to lack of systematic management in order/purchase stage and construction management stage, a rebar information-management-system was found and preyed. The relation database was designed for the rebar information management system by analyzing work process of a rebar manufacturing plant, as the rebar information that is necessary in a rebar manufacturing plant if similar to that of a purchasing department of general construction company. The Proposed rebar information management system was implemented in two large rebar production plants. The implementation of the proposed system showed that the system increased work efficiency, reduced the management manpower, and improved the project-integrated management
