  • The Chandi Borobudur was likely constructed around 800 AD, during the period of the Sailendra dynasty in central Java, Indonesia. The Chandi Borobudur have 1460 narrative panels of reliefs which are distributed from the hidden foot to the fourth gallery. The 160 panels show various scenes of actions producing the corresponding results according to the Karmavibhanga(分別善惡報應經) text. Blameworthy activities with their purgatorial punishments and praiseworthy activities with their subsequent rewards are both shown. The 120 panels depict the biography of Buddha according to the Lalitavistara (方廣大莊嚴經) text. The 620 panels depict stories from Jatakas (本生譚) and Avadanas (譬喩經). The stories of 560 panels are based on Mahayayana (入法界品, 488 panels) and Bhadrucari (普賢行願讚, 72 panels) of Gandavyuha (華嚴經) text. In this study, among the 120 narrative reliefs which tell the life story of Buddha according to the Lalitavistara text in Chandi Borobudur, the images of Birth of Siddhārtha(誕生), The Great Departure (出家), Attaintment of Enlightenment (成道) and The First Sermon (初轉法輪) have been compared with the images of biography of Buddha showing in Ancient India, Gandhara and South India, and China. From a historical perspective of cultural exchange, Borobudur is very important site because it is located on the south route of transmission of Buddhism from India to South Asia, China, Korea and Japan. Study on the reliefs sculptured on the wall of Chandi Borobudur provide us information to understand the process of spreading and changes in styles of Buddhist arts.

  • Unlike the past, supported by the development of digital technologies, free-form buildings are frequently designed with creative thoughts of architectural designers. However, there are some difficulties preventing successfully completion of projects, like reduced productivity and increased construction duration and cost upon the process of producing and installing concrete panels for free-form structures. In particular, there are active studies on the CNC machine for production of free-form concrete panels. Yet, it is difficult to effectively and easily come up with information on production and installation of free-form, curve-surfaced panels which are difficult to be mathematically defined. This requires a lot of manpower and time to implement the curved surfaces of free-form buildings as intended by architects. Accordingly, it needs a model that can effectively create production-installation data of free-form concrete panels for successful free-form building projects. Thus, the purpose of the study is to suggest data estimation model of production-installation using mathematical algorithm in free-form concrete panels. The study results will realize effective production and installation of free-form concrete members, allowing improved productivity of projects, reduced cost and shortened construction duration.

  • Demands for free-form buildings are on the rise, but such building designs require most cost and longer construction schedule, with less constructability due to challenges in construction member production and installation. FCP production technology has been developed using CNC machine in a bid to resolve the difficulties of member production. Exterior finishing panels of free-form building design must be divided in size and shape that can be produced by CNC machine. To solve this problem, constraints of CNC machine and correlations between CNC machine and panel need to be reviewed. Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyze decision factors on free-form concrete panel sizes produced by CNC machines. Through this study, FCP size can be optimized, which in turn can lead to improved FCP productivity and aesthetical quality of free-form building designs determined by the pattern of exterior finishing panels. CNC machine-enabled free-form concrete panel production technology will apply on site in the future, which will not only maximize the economic benefits of the technology but also support shorter construction schedule and better constructability.

  • The current panels for liquid crystal display (LCD) TV sets are all characterized by pins placed on two sides. To manufacture one type of panel, a dedicated mask is needed, and the production line should be started once. Moreover, the whole panel needs to be removed if a dead pixel is found. If the panel, however, will first be fabricated with pins placed on four sides and then divided by a cross-cut into four equal-sized panels with pins placed on two sides, one set of masks can be used to manufacture two types of LCD panels, which was referred to by the authors as dual mode. In this paper, the concept of the dual mode and its differences from the conventional way of producing panels are introduced. Its advantages in boosting production efficiency, improving the product's good rate, and lowering the production cost are also described based on case studies. Of particular importance is the fact that the dual mode is very suitable for the trial production of very-large-area LCD TV sets.

  • PMMA panels are made by two fabrication methods; cell molding and belt molding processes. But these methods have disadvantages in productivity and cost. So plastic processing engineers are very interested in developing a new production method for PMU panels using plastic films as molds because the new method can reduce production cost of belt molding method as well as can improve productivity of cell molding method. To give a solution for developing such a new molding method, the effects of melthyl methacrylate compound composition and curing reaction condition on the processability and mechanical strength of PMMA panels were investigated in this study. Poly(vinyl acetate) film was used as molds in producing PMMA panels. To determine an MMA compound showing good processability and good mechanical properties after curing, ingredients and their compositions were optimized step by step. Acrylic acid, as a coupling agent and a modifier, played an important role in increasing mechanical strength of PMMA panels.

  • This study proposes controller with voltage-compensated drivers for producing gray-scaled pictures on passive matrix organic light emitting diodes (PMOLEDs) panels. The controller includes voltage type drivers so the output impedance of the driver is far less than that of the current-type driver. Its low output impedance provides better electron-optical properties than those of traditional current drivers. A free running clock and a group of counters are applied to the gray-scaled function so that phase lock loop (PLL) circuit can be reduced in the controller. A pre-charge function is used to enhance performance of the luminance of an active OLED pixel. As a result, distribution of the low gray level portion is achieved linear relationship with input data. In this work, the digital part of the proposed controller is implemented using FPGA chips, and analog parts are combined with a digital-analog converter (DAC) and analog switches. A still image is displayed on a $48^{\ast}64$ PMOLEDs panel to assess the luminance performance fir the controller. Based on its cost requirement and luminance performance, the controller is qualified to join the market for driving PMOLEDs panels.

  • This study proposes a controller with the techniqu e of voltage -compensated driver for producing grayscaled pictures on passive matrix organic light emitting diodes (PMOLEDs) panels; especially, the controller overcomes the problem of luminance nonuniformity on displaying pictures. Because the controller is a voltage type driver, the output impedance of the driver is much less than that of the current-type driver. Hence, the controller provides a better electron-optical response than those of traditional current drivers. An area compensated look-up table (ACLUT) is designed in data feeding paths for removing luminance non-uniformity; thus, the proposed controller provides nearly 95% luminance uniformity.

  • Precast large panel structures behave differently form frame and monolithic wall structures under external loads, because of the distinct planes of weakness in the horizontal and vertical joints between panels. These joints may slide and open during shaking, producing large localized changes in the bending and shear stiffness of individual walls. The structural behavior of large precast panel buildings depends on the relative strength and stiffness of the panels and joints. Special modeling are thus required for the analysis of precast panel connections. This study suggests a new analytical modeling and method to obtain the rational estimation of discontinuity and slip movements form the connections of precast large panel structures .

  • Recent new town construction project proouced large numbers of apartment houses using precast concrete (P. C.) panels. l'bst construction companies involved in this project put their management focus on to the individual control of P.C. panel producing plants and the job sites. Little attention was paid to the integrated management of the production. transportation. and im;tallation of P. C. panels. Numerous job site delays experienced in the new town project were largely based on the poor coordination between these three key disciplines of the P. C. apartment construction. This stlldy was initiated with an .intention to improve coordination between these disciplines. Activities of these disciplines were identified and related data were gathered. This was performed through the interv:iews with the personnel involved in P. C. constructlon and through the analy::;is of the related documents and publications. Based on this information. the authors are nolol developing a model IoIhich will provide a foundation for opt:iJnal.ly coorc.inated control of the proouction. transportation, and installation of P. • PV system performance is dependent on different irradiations and temperature values in addition to the capability of the employed PV inverter / maximum power point tracker (MPPT) circuit or algorithm. Therefore, it would be appropriate to use a PV simulator capable of producing identical repeatable conditions regardless of the weather to evaluate the performance of inverter / MPPT circuits and algorithms. In accordance with this purpose, a photovoltaic (PV) array simulator is presented in this paper. The simulator is designed to generate current-voltage (I-V) and power-voltage (P-V) curves of a PV panel. Series connected cascaded modules constitute the basic part of the simulator. This feature also allows for the modeling of PV arrays since the number of modules can be increased and high voltage values can be reached with the simulator. In addition, the curves obtained at the simulator output become similar to the actual curves of sample PV panels with an increase in the number of modules. In order to show the validity of the proposed simulator, it was simulated for various situations such as panels under full irradiance and partial shading conditions. After completing simulations, experiments were realized to support the simulation study. Both simulation and experimental results show that the proposed simulator will be very useful for researchers to carry out PV studies under laboratory conditions.
