  • Knowledge base means a library stored in computer system providing useful information or appropriate solutions to specific area. Knowledge base associated with autism is the complex multidimensional information set related to the disease autism for its pathogenic factor and therapy. This paper focuses on the knowledge of biological molecular information extracted from massive biomedical texts with the aid of widespread used machine learning methods. Six classes of biological molecular information (such as protein, DNA, RNA, cell line, cell component, and cell type) are concerned and the probability statistics method, conditional random fields (CRFs), is utilized to discover these knowledges in this work. The knowledge base can help biologists to etiological analysis and pharmacists to drug development, which can at least answer four questions in question-answering (QA) system, i.e., which proteins are most related to the disease autism, which DNAs play important role to the development of autism, which cell types have the correlation to autism and which cell components participate the process to autism. • In spite of a tendency automatizing manaufacturing processes, since power presses are highly repetitive at high speeds, they have still been using to a large extent in many industries. More often than not, press workers have to make decisions whether work materials are located well or not, they should rearrange them or not, and their bodies would be safe or not. If the decision would be wrong, of course, they cause severe damages to human workers so that many workers haven't been willing to work with them. However, with the help of computer technologies, it would be possible to aid the press workers' decisions, and to allow or prohibit them from inserting their hands between slide rams and dies. Thus, this research was aimed to evaluate and analyze possibilities of applying Image Processing Techniques for prevention of press accidents. Through a series of procedures including Capturing work sites and material, Image Enhancement, Contouring, and Edge Finding, work characteristics were obtained and analyzed. The results showed that there were somewhat differences in image characteristics between accident-induced work scenes and accident-free ones. Consequently, if the image analyses are well carried out in real time, they would give a successful help to human press workers.

  • In this paper, the process of extruding Cu-10Fe alloy using a finite element analysis (FEA) was theoretically analyzed. To achieve this, the dependence of strain rate and temperature of the alloy required for the extrusion process was secured by utilizing databases for Cu and Fe and the KHL model. For microstructure analysis, FE-SEM with EDS was used to distinguish the phases present in Cu-10Fe alloy. The mechanical characteristics of Cu-10Fe alloy were secured using the results of fitting the mechanical properties of Copper and Steel from the Deform database to the KHL model. The deformation behavior within the alloy during hot extrusion was analyzed, providing insights into effective stress, effective strain, effective strain rate, and temperature. It was observed that the strain distribution was non-uniform. These research findings contribute to an improved understanding of the hot extrusion process of Cu-10Fe alloy and can aid in predicting the mechanical properties of the material.

  • In this paper, a signal processing circuit for semi-implantable middle ear hearing device is designed using the TCBT which is recently proposed for a new middle ear transducer that can be implanted at round window of cochlea. The designed semi-implantable hearing device transmits digital sound signal from external device located at behind the ear to the internal device implanted under the skin using inductive coupling link methods with high efficiency. The coils and signal processing circuits are designed and implemented considering the total transmission and reception distance including skin thickness of temporal bone for the semi-implantable hearing device. And also, to improve the data transmission efficiency, the output circuits which can supply sufficient signal power is designed. In order to confirm operation of semi-implantable hearing device using inductive coupling link, the circuit analysis was performed using PSpice, and the performance was verified by implementing a signal processing board of an available size.

  • A microfluidic reactor with computer-controlled programmable isocratic pumps and online detectors is employed as a combinatorial synthesis system to synthesize and analyze materials for fabricating CdSe quantum dots for various applications. Four reaction condition parameters, namely, the reaction temperature, reaction time, Cd/Se compositional ratio, and precursor concentration, are combined in synthesis condition sets, and the size of the synthesized CdSe quantum dots is determined for each condition. The average time corresponding to each reaction condition for obtaining the ultraviolet-visible absorbance and photoluminescence spectra is approximately 10 min. Using the data from the combinatorial synthesis system, the effects of the reaction conditions on the synthesized CdSe quantum dots are determined. Further, the data is used to determine the relationships between the reaction conditions and the CdSe particle size. This method should aid in determining and selecting the optimal conditions for synthesizing nanoparticles for diverse applications.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new topology of Radial Basis Function-based Polynomial Neural Networks (RPNN) that is based on a genetically optimized multi-layer perceptron with Radial Polynomial Neurons (RPNs). This study offers a comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of optimization algorithms, especially Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering method and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms. In contrast to the typical architectures encountered in Polynomial Neural Networks (PNNs), our main objective is to develop a design strategy of RPNNs as follows : (a) The architecture of the proposed network consists of Radial Polynomial Neurons (RPNs). In here, the RPN is fully reflective of the structure encountered in numeric data which are granulated with the aid of Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering method. The RPN dwells on the concepts of a collection of radial basis function and the function-based nonlinear (polynomial) processing. (b) The PSO-based design procedure being applied at each layer of RPNN leads to the selection of preferred nodes of the network (RPNs) whose local characteristics (such as the number of input variables, a collection of the specific subset of input variables, the order of the polynomial, and the number of clusters as well as a fuzzification coefficient in the FCM clustering) can be easily adjusted. The performance of the RPNN is quantified through the experimentation where we use a number of modeling benchmarks - NOx emission process data of gas turbine power plant and learning machine data(Automobile Miles Per Gallon Data) already experimented with in fuzzy or neurofuzzy modeling. A comparative analysis reveals that the proposed RPNN exhibits higher accuracy and superb predictive capability in comparison to some previous models available in the literature.

  • This paper studies the rapid design and implementation of the medium access control(MAC) and related interface circuits for 802.11 wireless LANs based on the field programmed gate ar-ray(FPGA) technology. Our design is thus aimed to support both the distributed coordination function (DCF) and the point coordination function(PCF) with the aid of FPGA technology. Further-more, in an infrastructure network, some stations may serve as the access points (APs) which may function like a learning bridge. This paper will also discuss how to design for such application. The hardware of the MAC and interface may at least consist of three major parts: wireless transmission and reception processes and in-terface, host(bus) interface, and the interface to the distributed system (optional). Through the increasing popularity of FPGA de-sign, this paper presents how Complex Programmable Logic De-vices(CPLD) can be utilized for speedy design of prototypes. It also demonstrates that there is much room for low-cost hardware prototype design to accelerate the processing speed of the MAC control function and for field testing.

  • A small electronic nose (E-Nose) system has been developed using an 8-channel vapor detection array and personal digital assistant (PDA). The sensor array chip, integrated on a single microheater-embedded polyimide substrate, was made of carbon black-polymer composites with different kinds of polymers and plasticizers. We have successfully classified various volatile organic compounds such as methanol, ethanol, i-propanol, benzene, toluene, n-hexane, n-heptane, and c-hexane with the aid of the sensor array chip, and have evaluated the resolution factors among them, quantitatively. To achieve a PDA-based E-Nose system, we have also elaborated small sensor-interrogating circuits, simple vapor delivery components, and data acquisition and processing programs. As preliminary results show, the miniaturized E-Nose system has demonstrated the identification of essential oils extracted from mint, lavender, and eucalyptus plants.
