A Study on the Wear Detection of Drill State for Prediction Monitoring System (예측감시 시스템에 의한 드릴의 마멸검출에 관한 연구)

  • Out of all metal-cutting process, the hole-making process is the most widely used. It is estimated to be more than 30% of the total metal-cutting process. It is therefore desirable to monitor and detect drill wear during the hole-drilling process. One important aspect in controlling the drilling process is monitoring drill wear status. There are two systems, Basic system and Online system, to detect the drill wear. Basic system comprised of spindle rotational speed, feed rates, thrust torque and flank wear measured by tool microscope. Outline system comprised of spindle rotational speed feed rates, AE signal, flank wear area measured by computer vision, On-line monitoring system does not need to stop the process to inspect drill wear. Backpropagation neural networks (BPNs) were used for on-line detection of drill wear. The output was the drill wear state which was either usable or failure. This paper deals with an on-line drill wear monitoring system to fit the detection of the abnormal tool state.

Noise Reduction of a Small D/C Motor using 6 Sigma Process (6 시그마 프로세스를 이용한 소형 직류 모터의 소음 절감)

  • This paper studies on the noise reduction for a small automobile DC Motor (a window motor) using the 6 sigma process. The application of 6 sigma process suggested reliable and valuable statistical data for the quality of the DC motor at the production line. In the measurement step in 6 sigma process, the FMEA(Failure Mode Effect Analysis) were used for the detection of noise sources. The application of 6 sigma process gave not only the improving method for the quality of the DC motor but also the confidence of improvement itself since it was done on the basis of the test results for a number of DC motors at the production line. Consequently the 6 sigma process was proved very effective for the noise reduction at the production line.

  • The welding automation in ship manufacturing process,especially in the sub-assembly line is considered to be a difficult job because the welding part is too huge, various, unstructured for a welding robot to weld fully automatically. The weld orocess at the sub-assembly line for ship manufacturing is to joint the various stiffener on the base panel. In order to realize automatic robot weld in sub-assembly line, robot have to equip with the sensing system to recognize the position of the parts. In this research,we developed a vision system to detect the position of base panle for sub-assembly line is shipbuilding process. The vision system is composed of one CCD camera attached on the base of robot, 2-500W halogen lamps for active illumination. In the image processing algorithm,the base panel is represented by two set of lines located at its two corner through hough transform. However, the various noise line caused by highlight,scratches and stiffener,roller in conveyor, and so on is contained in the captured image, this nosie can be eliminated by region segmentation and threshold in hough transform domain. The matching process to recognize the position of weld panel is executed by finding patterns in the Hough transformed domain. The sets of experiments performed in the sub-assembly line show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • As the size of chip components and module decreases, new patteming method for fine line and geometry is needed. So far, in LTCC(Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic) process, screen printing method has been used generally. But screen printing method has some disadvantages as follows. First, the geometry including line, vias, etc. smaller than $100{\mu}m$ can't be evaluated easily. Second, the patterned dimension is different from designed value, which makes distortion in charactersitics of not only chip components but also modules. Thick film lithography has advantages of thick film screen printing process, low cost and thin film process, fine line feasibility. Using this method, the line with $30{\mu}m$ width and the geometry with expected dimension can be evaluated. In this study, the fine line with $35{\mu}m$ line/space is formed and the embedded capacitor with very small tolerance is developed using thick film lithography.

Electrical and Optical Characteristics of Plasma Display Panel Fabricated by Vacuum In-line Sealing (진공 인라인 실장에 의해 제작된 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 전기적ㆍ광학적 특성)

  • The optical and electrical characteristics of plasma display panel(PDP) using the vacuum in-line sealing technology compared with the conventional sealing process in this research. This PDP consisted of MgO protecting layer by e-beam evaporation and battier rib, transparent dielectric layer, dielectric layer, and electrodes by screen printer and then sealed off on Ne-Xe(4 %) 400 Torr and 430。C. The brightness and luminous efficiency were good as the base vacuum level was higher, and it was to check the advantage of high vacuum level sealing, one of the strong points of the vacuum in-line sealing process. However, the brightness and luminous efficiency was dropped sharply because of a crack on MgO protecting layer by the difference of the expansion and contraction stress on high temperature in the vacuum states between MgO and substrate. Fortunately, the crack was prevented by MgO was deposited on higher temperature than 300。C. Finally, the PDP, was fabricated by the vacuum in-line sealing process, resulted the lower brightness than processing only the thermal annealing treatment in the vacuum chamber, but the luminous efficiency was increased by the reducing power consumption with the decreasing luminous current. The vacuum in-line sealing technology was not to need the additional thermal annealing process and could reduce the fabrication process and bring the excellent optical and electrical properties without the crack of MgO protecting layer than the conventional sealing process.

Fabrication of metal line on plastic substrate by hot embossing and CMP process (핫 엠보싱 공정과 CMP 공정을 이용한 플라스틱 기판에 메탈 라인 형성)

  • In the future, plastic based system will play a crucial role in modem life, for examples, transparent display or disposable electronics and so on. In this paper, we introduced a new method to fabricate the metal line on the plastic substrate. Metal lines were fabricated by hot embossing and CMP process on PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) substrates. A Si mold was made by wet etching process and a PMMA wafer was cut off from I mm thick PMMA sheet. A 100 nm thick Al was deposited on PMMA wafers. The Al deposited PMMA wafer and the Si mold carefully sandwiched which was directly imprinted by hot embossing. After imprinting process, a residual Al layer was removed by CMP process. Finally, we found the entire process may be very useful to fabricate the metal line on plastic substrates.

  • Strip off-center is one of the major problems in hot strip mill line. The key to good centering is having good equipment, modern control systems, excellent maintenance and an understanding of milling process. Therefore, this study aims to develop a system that is useful for quantitative analysis of strip off-center. In this study, the measuring method of strip off-center was thoroughly studied and the exclusive control board to line scan camera were designed. Also, the manipulated type housing for line scan camera was developed to adjust initial parameters for strip width and center line. In order to check the accuracy and usefulness of the developed system, FM stand in $\#2$ Hot Strip Factory in Pohang Steel Works was targeted.

  • Microfiltration with in-line rapid coagulation for drinking water production was examined. The in-line rapid coagulation was conducted using newly developed mixing device instantaneous flash mixer. The flux decline during membrane filtration was monitored with coagulant dosage varied. Flux decline was minimized at 1.1mg/L of coagulant dosage, where streaming potential of coagulated water was near zero. The optimum dosage for the process control was explained by dimensionless distance (${\kappa}{\times}a$) of particle pairs, obtained from electrophoresis parameter describing electrostatic repulsion relative to Van der Waals energy between particle pairs in the pre-coagulated water.

A Study on the Weld Line Strength in Injection Molded Part (사출성형품의 웰드라인 강도에 관한 연구)

  • Weld line in injection molded part is one of the defect in injection molding process. Weld line deteriorates not only appearance quality but mechanical property. In this study weld line strength has been examined according to the injection operational conditions, materials and mold designs. PC and PP were used, and four different specimens were used in this experiment. Weld line strength decreased as injection temperature increases for PC. It was more dependent on mold temperature than injection temperature for PP Among the four different specimens, uneven thickness specimen showed the highest weld line strength.

  • In-line measurement systems are preferred to those in analytical laboratories, since in-line systems provide rapid response to process upsets. If an in-line measurement system exhibits an unstable variation and if this instability in measurement variation goes undetected, it will make the process monitoring procedure invalid. This paper presents a stability evaluation procedure for the in-line measurement system using two independent readings from the in-line measurement system and one reading from the analytical laboratory, which requires less measurement cost and time.
