  • This study aims to investigate the impacts of managerial and technical IT knowledges on firm's financial performance. Specifically, the study examines the following three effects between IT personnel knowledges and financial performance: (1) direct effect, (2) mediating effect of business process performance, and (3) moderating effect of firm size, between them. An empirical study resulted in the followings. First, both managerial and technical IT knowledges do not have direct influences on financial performance. Second, unlike technical IT knowledge, managerial IT knowledge indirectly affects financial performance through business process performance, confirming the mediating role of business process performance. Third, while technical IT knowledge produce no direct and indirect effect on financial performance regardless of firm size, managerial IT knowledge exerts significant impacts on financial performance although such effects represent some different patterns according to firm size. That is, in the smaller group, the association between managerial IT knowledge and financial performance is partially mediated by business process performance and in the larger group, that relationship fully mediated.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest a grounded theory on the process of undergraduate students' generating pattern-knowledge about scientific episodes. The pattern-discovery tasks were administered to seven college students majoring in elementary education. The present study found that college students show five types of procedural knowledge represented in the process of pattern-discovery, such as element, elementary variation, relative prior knowledge, predictive-pattern, and final pattern-knowledge. Furthermore, subjects used seven types of thinking ways, such as recognizing objects, recalling knowledges, searching elementary variation, predictive-pattern discovery, confirming a predictive-pattern, combining patterns, and selecting a pattern. In addition, pattern-discovering process involves a systemic process of element, elementary variation, relative prior knowledge, generating and confirming predictive-pattern, and selecting final pattern-knowledge. The processes were shown the abductive and deductive reasoning as well as inductive reasoning. This study also discussed the implications of these findings for teaching and evaluating in science education.

  • This research investigated the effects of living experiences with the elderly and learning about the elderly to knowledge of aging process and anxiety about aging process in undergraduate students. To this purpose, we survey Anxiety about Aging Scale(Lasher & Faulkender, 1993) in Korean and Aging Process Knowledge Questionnaire in undergraduate students. The conclusions of this research were as follows: First, there were significant different by living experiences with the elderly and learning about the elderly in knowledge of aging process. Second, there were significant different by living experiences with the elderly and learning about the elderly in anxiety about aging process. Third, there were significant negative relationships between the aging knowledge and anxiety about aging in undergraduate students.

  • Process planning (selection and ordering of processes) and material selection for product manufacturing are two key things determined before taking full-scale manufacturing. Knowledge on product design. material characteristics, processes, time and cost all-together are mutually related and should be considered concurrently. Due to the complexity of problem, human experts have got only one of the feasilbe solutions with their field knowledge and experiences. We propose a hierarchical expert system framework of knowledge representation and reasoning in order to overcome the complexity. Manufacturing processes have inherently hierarchical relationships, from top level processes to bottom level operation processes. Process plan of one level is posted in process blackboard and used for lower level process planning. Process information on blackboard is also used to adjust the process plan in order to resolve the dead-end or inconsistency situation during reasoning. Decision variables for process, material, tool, time and cost are represented as object frames, and their relationships are represented as constraints and rules. Constraints are for relationship among variables such as compatibility, numerical inequality etc. Rules are for causal relationships among variables to reflect human expert\`s knowledge such as process precedence. CRSP(Constraint and Rule Satisfaction Problem) approach is adopted in order to obtain solution to satisfy both constraints and rules. The trade-off procedure gives user chances to see the impact of change of important variables such as material, cost, time and helps to determine the preferred solution. We developed the prototype system using visual C++ MFC, UNIK, and UNlK-CRSP on PC.

  • The world has rushed into knowledge information society. Information technology is one of the causes to show up knowledge management and one of the motives to accelerate knowledge management. And, these days information technology and internet have made staffing progress. Therefore, the objective of this study is to take out latent knowledge of customers through web data mining in a vast amount of data on the internet in rapidly developing digital environments, to develop the knowledge-based design paradigm applied to knowledge management framework, and finally to develop design which satisfies customers' needs. To reach the objective, knowledge management process and varied previous studies related to web data mining are reviewed on a theoretical basis, and then a new knowledge-based design paradigm (in this study, eCRM in a true sense which combines web data mining with knowledge management process is called knowledge-based design paradigm) combining knowledge management process with web data mining is suggested.

  • Organizations continue to invest heavily in the acquisition of knowledge management systems (KMS). The overriding belief is that KMS-task fit will become more productive. A survey of users was conducted to better understand the factors that affect KMS-task fit to better explain KMS performance perspective on knowledge circulation process. This involves stating the research hypotheses among the following constructs: the characteristics of KMS, the fitness of task characteristics, and KMS performance. The findings indicate that the characteristics of KMS positively affect the fitness of task characteristics. The fitness of task characteristics are affecting KMS performance. The results of this study suggest that task-technology fit could be the basis for a strong diagnostic tool to evaluate whether KMS in a given organization are meeting user needs.

  • With the advent of knowledge-based economy and information society, information and telecommunications(IT) industry is reckoned as the crucial sector for the creation and diffusion of technological knowledge. In this study, we analyze the process of 'industrialization of IT'and 'informatization of industries' based on the technology linkage structure, or technological knowledge network. The former is defined as the process whereby IT industry absorbs technological knowledge from other industries to grow as an independent industrial sector. The latter is defined as the process whereby other industries adopt IT technology to enhance productivity and upgrade industrial structure, We employ the R&D stock as a proxy for technological knowledge of respective industries and measure the flow of technological knowledge between industries in terms of I/O relationship. By applying the network analysis, we examine the changing pattern of technology linkage structure of the Korean industry throughout the years from 1983 to 1997. Some policy implications are presented based on the findings from the analysis.

  • The current study attempts to provide the field of knowledge management with theoretical grounds from the perspective of social network, resource dependency, and institutional theory. Social network theory considers that knowledge management plays a critical role in organizational innovation through the process of knowledge sharing/creation, communication systems, and a cooperative culture and trust, whereas resource dependency perceives knowledge management as contributing to cost reduction through the process of knowledge capture/storage, database systems, and reward/incentive systems. Plus, from the perspective of institutionalization, this study discusses that organizations can not benefit from knowledge management if it is adopted with the motive of isomorphic change. Finally, this study compares and integrates the three perspectives, and discusses the implications and limitations.

  • Many R&D organizations have interests on knowledge management system(KMS) to organize and utilize their knowledge resources. Currently, for research collaboration and knowledge management R&D organizations use either a specialized knowledge management system or a set of general application systems such as basic messaging system and document management system. The objectives of this paper are to identify important functionalities of knowledge management systems based on team characteristics and knowledge process of research teams in research organizations and to provide implications to design and implement knowledge management system for R&D teams. Survey results show that research teams perceive communication, collaboration and connection functionalities are important when their team sizes are large or they are distributed. During knowledge capture process, they need personalization of knowledge to reduce information overload.

  • It is the development of a mathematics teachers' teaching knowledge that manifests a mathematics teacher's professional knowledge growth. It is becoming a direct and effective approach of conversion of mathematical knowledge into the knowledge of mathematics teaching. Through the investigation, the study revealed that the knowledge conversion process of mathematics teachers in middle school is restricted by three aspects including eight factors. From this point, the authors have structured the path and model on influencing factors of middle school Mathematics Teaching Knowledge Conversion (MPCK), and discuss the mechanism of the transformation process.
