  • We have been proposed model equation which is able to predict the trihalomethane producing concentration formation, that is one of byproduct, in the water treatment processes. In proposed model, the effects of trihalomethane factors like chlorine contact time, pH, temperature, TOC and UV-254 are considered. The concentration of the trihalomethane produced is proportion to the contact with chlorine, pH of water, temperature of water TOC and UV-254, respectively. This proposed model could be predicted the formed concentration of trihalomethanes by trihalomethane factors.

  • The simplest and lightest element-hydrogen is an alternative fuel which provides a clean and renewable energy source. Hydrogen can be used to power gas-type appliance and modified automobiles with water vapor as the only byproduct of combustion. Historically, production of hydrogen from coal was one of the mass production technology of hydrogen. In this paper, the status of hydrogen production process from coal was investigated to review the current situation of hydrogen production and utilization.

  • The refuse-derived fuel(RDF) is manufactured using waste plastics-based materials and its physical and chemical properties are analyzed. The manufacturing process consists of hand picking, primary magnetic separation, crushing, secondary magnetic separation, feeding and extrusion. The RDF products have a higher calorie content of over 6, 000 ㎉/kg and high stability because the waste plastics and paper are mainly selected. The combustion flue gas of RDF products is satisfied with the emission criteria of incinerator. The heavy metal concentration of combustion byproduct from the RDF boiler is also satisfied with the criteria and appears to be lower concentration than that of a common municipal waste incinerator.

  • In this paper, we would like to give an answer to Problem 1 below issued firstly in [17]. In fact, by imposing some conditions on the mean curvature of the initial hypersurface and the coefficient function of the forcing term of a forced mean curvature flow considered here, we can obtain that the first eigenvalues of the Laplace and the p-Laplace operators are monotonic under this flow. Surprisingly, during this process, we get an interesting byproduct, that is, without any complicate constraint, we can give lower bounds for the first nonzero closed eigenvalue of the Laplacian provided additionally the second fundamental form of the initial hypersurface satisfies a pinching condition.

  • We must stabilize quickly increasing waste matters in urban life and livestock industry. Biogas including landfill gas and digester gas is byproduct of anaerobic decomposition of organic waste matter and contains 40%-70% methane, which can be used for energy purposes. Utilization of biogas reduce the emission of methane into the atmosphere to minimize greenhouse effect and the carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted when biogas is converted to energy has been taken out of the atmosphere by growing plant. Recently, bioenergy is world-widely noticeable as all contributing to the greenhouse effect. This paper presents development process of a biogas engine for cogeneration system and results of application to digester gas and landfill gas in site. The biogas engine is a dual fuel engine operated on biogas with a diesel pilot. At present, the engine can substitute biogas for diesel fuel up to 85%. but it can be said that there is a possibility of improvement in performance.

  • Several types of industrial byproducts are generated. With increased environmental awareness and its potential hazardous effects, the utilization of industrial byproducts in concrete has become an attractive alternative to their disposal. One such by-product is ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), which is a byproduct of the smelting process carried out in the iron and steel industry. The GGBS is very effective in the design and development of high-strength and high-performance concrete. This paper reviews the effect of GGBS on the workability, porosity, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and flexural strength of concrete.

  • The subject of this study is a zeolite generated as a by-product of recycling LAS (lithium-aluminum-silicate) resources, a kind of glass and ceramic produced by induction. The zeolite by-product is modified into Mg-zeolite using Mg as a cation to absorb Pb, a heavy metal generated from water pollution caused by recent industrial wastewater. An ion-exchange method is used to carry out the modification process, from zeolite byproduct to Mg-zeolite, and simultaneously absorb the Pb in the heavy-metal solution (99.032 mg/L). It is found that the sodium zeolite in the raw material residue can be modified to magnesium zeolite by reacting it with a mixture solution at 1 M concentration for 24 h. As a result, it is found that the residual Pb (0.130 mg/L) in the heavy metal solution is shown to be absorbed by 99.86%, with successful formation of a Mg-modified zeolite.

  • We tried to synthesize the 2-methyl anthraquinone (2-MAQ) with reaction between phthalic anhydride and toluene instead of using 2-methyl phthalic anhydride and benzene. This process didn't generate significant of amount of 1-methyl anthraquinone (l-MAQ) as byproduct. The other advantage of this pathway is using less toxic toluene instead of benzene known as carcinogen. 2-MAQ synthesized this pathway was as effective as reagent grade from commercial available based on soda-anthraquinone(AQ) pulping results.

  • In this study, as a measure to recycle red mud, which is a byproduct of the Bayer Process, red mud was manufactured as liquid and recycled without drying and grinding. Previous studies have shown that mechanical performance decreases when liquid red mud is applied to cement concrete. Therefore, in this study, liquid red mud was neutralized with nitric acid and applied to cement paste to examine the properties of cement paste according to the addition of red mud. As a result, the compressive strength of 10% liquid red mud decreased by 37.7% compared to Plain, and 10% liquid red mud indicates similar strength to Plain and restores the strength.

  • Oil fly ash is known as one source of raw materials from which vanadium and nickel metals can be recovered. The current recovery process of valuable metals from oil fly ash is mainly the hydrormetallurgy one. Nevertheless, a great amount about 50~80%, of unburned carbon remains as byproduct after hydrormetallursy process. In Taiwan, if hydrormetallursy processes have proceeded, it can be estimated that the annual production of unburned carbon is 25 thousand tons. From the viewpoint of resource recycling, this study is a preliminary study and investigates in recovery of sub micron- graphitized carbon from unburned carbon by a designed process. The designed process included the following steps: 1.selecting a portion with +400mesh size from unburned carbon; 2.treating the selected in ultrasonic waves; 3.using a 400mesh sieve to obtain the product which is under 400mesh; 4.Removal ash from the product. In regard to treatment by ultrasonic waves in the designed process, treating time of ultrasonic waves is a simple and only variance in this study. The results indicate that the production yields increase with the treating time of ultrasonic waves; the production yield in specific conditions of this study can reach about 23%, in which ash content in product is about 2.5%. According to results of SEM, TEM and XRD, the products from the designed process are flakes in shape, several microns in size and graphitized carbon in carbon crystal phase. Except to graphitized carbon, there are a little carbon blacks, which are graphite 2H in carbon crystal phase in the products. Conclusively, the designed process is possibly applicable, by which comes to the recovery of micron- graphitized carbon.
