The objectives of this study were to measure keratinized gingival thickness in healthy Korean adults, and to correlate the keratinized gingival thickness with width of keratinized gingiva, probing pocket depth and gingival recession.Thickness measurements were performed in 37 Korean dental students using an ultrasonic device(SDM). Width of keratinized gingiva, gingival recession and probing pocket depth were measured with a Williams periodontal probe. The results showed that the keratinized gingival thickness varied from 0.83 mm(canines) to 1.16 mm(central incisors) in the maxilla and, in the mandible, from 0.68 mm(1st premolars) to 1.69 mm(2nd molars). In a stepwise multiple linear regression analysis, 23% of variation of gingival thickness could be explained by width of keratinized gingiva and probing pocket depth. It could be concluded that the keratinized gingival thickness depends on tooth type and correlates with width of keratinized gingiva and probing pocket depth.
Iatrogenic perforations negatively impact the outcome of endodontic treatments. Studies on prognostic factors showed that perforations in the coronal third of the root with periodontal pocket formation have an unfavorable prognosis. A 36-year-old female was referred for endodontic evaluation of tooth #13 with a history of an iatrogenic perforation, happened 3 years ago. There was a sinus tract associated with perforation, 10 mm probing on the mesial and mesio-palatal, bleeding on probing, radiolucent lesion adjacent to the perforation and complete resorption of the interdental bone between teeth #13 and #12. After the treatment options were discussed, she chose to save the tooth. The tooth was accessed under rubber dam isolation, the perforation site was cleaned and disinfected using 0.5% sodium hypochlorite and sealed with calcium-enriched mixture cement. Eighteen months after treatment the tooth was functional and asymptomatic. The probing depths were normal without bleeding on probing. Radiographically, the interdental crestal bone formed between teeth #13 and #12. Despite all negative prognostic factors in this case (i.e., perforations in the coronal third, pocket formation, and radiolucent lesion), healing was unexpectedly achieved via non-surgical repair of the perforation. Further research on biological aspects of healing in the periodontium following iatrogenic perforations are recommended.

Recently, as the use of mobile terminal is generalized, the needs of high-speed Internet mobile service is increased. Also users want to receive the multimedia contents what they want through the various terminals in anywhere, anytime via wired and wireless integrated environment. Therefore, various mechanisms that support the mobility are proposed. However, these mechanisms are difficult to support seamless mobility and QoS awareness on the mobile multicast environment. In this paper, we propose a QoS aware handover mechanism that is able to provide the high-quality and real-time services such as mobile IPTV in an integrated environment for these requests of users. Proposed mechanism manages the multicast admission control and multicast handover using the 2-layer multicast information management at the wired and wireless integrated network that extended the service guaranteed methods through the probing based admission control of the wired network to the wireless network based on PMIPv6. We present a performance evaluation results and features analyzed by the simulations using the ㎱-2.
Bone graft using growth factors and guided tissue regeneration have been used for the regeneration of infrabony defects which caused by periodontal disease. Calcium sulfate which is one of the resorbable barrier materials used for guided tissue regeneration. Platelet rich plasma which is a easy method to obtain the growth factors had many common points but, platelet rich plasma was still studying. This study was the comparative study between bone graft using platelet rich plasma and guided tissue regeneration using calcium sulfate barrier material in clinical view. For the study, 28 sites(2 or 3 wall infrabony defects) were treated. 14 infrabony defects were received surgical implantation of BBP-calcium sulfate composite with a calcium sulfate barrier and the others received BBP mixed with platelet rich plasma. Clinical outcome was accessed 3 and 6 months of postsurgery. 1. There was no statistical difference between CS group and PRP group in pocket depth, gingival recession, clinical attachment level, and probing bone level at baseline. 2. There was statistically significant reduction in probing depth, clinical attachment level, and probing bone level at 3 and 6 months postsurgery(p<0.05). 3. In the probing depth and clincial attachment level PPR group had less improvement than CS group, but there was no statistically difference at 3 and 6 months postsurgery. 4. In the recession PPR group had less recession than CS group, but there was no statistically difference at 3 and 6 months postsurgery. 5. In the probing bone level PPR group had less improvement than CS group, but there was no statistically difference at 6 months postsurgery. In conclusion bone graft using platelet rich plasma and guided tissue regeneration using calcium sulfate barrier showed similar clinical improvement for the treatment of 2 or 3 wall infrabony defects.

This paper is related with the compensation of communication channel characteristics using predistorter, and the considered characteristic is the additive noise, phase rotation and frequency selective fading which occurred in communication channel. Predistorter can minimize the effect of obstacle element which occured in channel at receiving side by transmitting the predistortion of signal after modulation, the coefficient of inverse electrical charateristic of communication channel is performed at transmitting side. For this purpose, the predistorter is designed by using Tricepstrum Equalization Algorithm which is adaptive equlizer algorithm, and the receiving side must transmit the probing signal to transmitting side. Using the probing signal, the transmitting side can obtain the inverse characteristic coefficient of communication channel, and this probing signal must be transmitted periodically. We assumed that the channel characteristic do not change during this one period. As a result of computer simulation, we confirmed that the performance of predistorter was fairly good as same as the adaptive equalizer, and this technique have a effectiveness that can be used in the forward channel of mobile communication in order to achieve high speed transmission.
Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of root planing on the reduction of probing pocket depth and the gain of clinical attachment depending on the pattern of bone resorption (vertical versus horizontal bone loss) in the interproximal aspect of premolar teeth that showed an initial probing pocket depth of 4-6 mm. Methods: In this study, we analyzed 68 teeth (15 from the maxilla and 53 from the mandible) from 32 patients with chronic periodontitis (17 men and 15 women; mean age, 53.6 years). The probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level at all six sites around each tooth were recorded before treatment to establish a baseline value, and then three months and six months after root planing. Results: The reduction in interdental pocket depth was 1.1 mm in teeth that experienced horizontal bone loss and 0.7 mm in teeth that experienced vertical bone loss. Interdental attachment was increased by 1.0 mm in teeth with horizontal bone loss and by 0.7 mm in teeth with vertical bone loss. The reduction of probing pocket depth and the gain of clinical attachment occurred regardless of defect patterns three and six months after root planing. Conclusions: The reduction of pocket depth and gain in the clinical attachment level were significantly larger in horizontally patterned interproximal bone defects than in vertical bone defects.

Kinematic contact trigger probes are widely used for feature inspection and measurement on coordinate measurement machines (CMMs) and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools. Recently, the probing accuracy has become one of the most important factors in the improvement of product quality, as the accuracy of such machining centers and measuring machines is increasing. Although high-accuracy probes using strain gauge can achieve this requirement, in this paper we study the universal economic kinematic contact probe to prove its probing mechanism and errors, and to try to make the best use of its performance. Stylus-ball-radius and center-alignment errors are proved, and the probing error mechanism on the 3D measuring coordinate is analyzed using numerical expressions. Macro algorithms are developed for the compensation of these errors, and actual tests and verifications are performed with a kinematic contact trigger probe and reference sphere on a CNC machine tool.
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the third molar and periodontal status of the adjacent second molar. Fifty patients who had four maxillary and mandibular second molars were consecutively selected for the study subjects. The subjects provided a total of 200 molars, i. e., 100 maxillary and 100 mandibular molars, and classified the groups as follows; third molars that are normally erupted are control group, that are impacted are test 1 group, that are simply extracted are test 2 group, that are surgically extracted are test 3 group. Probing depth, plaque index, gingival index and mobility were measured. The results were as follows. 1. In mesial probing depth, there was no significantly difference. In distal probing depth, there was a significantly difference between control group and test 1 & 3 group in maxilla and between control & test 2 group and test 1& 3 group in mandible(p<0.05). 2. In buccal probing depth, there was a significantly difference between test 2 group and test 3 group in mandible. In lingual probing depth, there was a significantly difference between control group and test 1 & 3 group in mandible(p<0.05). 3. In plaque index, there was a significantly difference between test 1 group and test 2 group in maxilla, between test 1 group and control & test 2 group in mandible(p<0.05). 4. In gingival index, there was a significantly difference between control group and test 1 & 3 group in mandible. In mobility, there was no significantly difference(p<0.05). As a result of this study, the second molars adjacent to the third molars that are impacted or surgically extracted had poor prognosis, so impacted third molars should be extracted in early time and the second molars are actively treated for periodontal health.

The paper presents a small. unmanned remote controlled probing ship that can reduce the cost for acquiring data of marine and coastal environments. The control system is composed of three microprocessors. one is for overall mission control. another for control of propulsion motors. and the other for sensor operation. For communication system, we adopt direct and indirect methods based on the wireless modem of commercial cellular telephone. The former is a direct communication between the modems of the ship and the server. and the latter is an indirect communication via internet between the ship and the server. The system is equipped with a digital compass and a GPS system for position estimation, and extended Kalman filter is used for the data association. The performance of the ship is demonstrated with the results produced by sets of experiments.

This dissertation is concerned with ultra-precision profile measurement of aspheric surfaces using contact probing technique. A contact probe has been designed as a sensing device to obtain measuring resolutions in nanometer regime utilizing a leaf spring mechanism and a capacitive-type sensor. The contact probe is attached on the z-axis during measurement while aspheric objects are supported on an precision xy-stage whose lateral motions are monitored by a set of two orthogonal plane mirror type laser interferometers. Experimental results show that the contact probing technique developed in this investigation is capable of providing a repeatability of 50 nanometers with a $\pm$3$\sigma$ uncertainty of 300 nanometers. Thermal disturbance is found the most significant factor that should be precisely controlled for accurate measurement.
