  • Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) is a very effective technique against transmission error at the medium access control (MAC) layer. An erroneous MAC protocol data unit can be typically retransmitted within a given limit. In order to improve the IP-level performance, which directly affects the user-perceived quality-of-service (QoS), we propose a new truncated ARQ strategy, called MAC service data unit-based ARQ (S-ARQ), where the finite number of opportunities for retransmissions are shared by multiple fragments out of an IP datagram. We describe how SARQ can be implemented in a practical system, and then propose another variant of S-ARQ employing a functionality called early detection of failure. Basically, we evaluate the performance of SARQ in two different manners. First, assuming i.i.d. error process, we analyze both the probability of the delivery failure and the average delay of IP datagram. Then, we assess the performance of S-ARQ via simulation over a 2-state Markov channel.

  • Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are introduced as an enabling technology in tele-health for patient monitoring. Designing an efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is the main challenge in WBANs because of their various applications and strict requirements such as low level of energy consumption, low transmission delay, the wide range of data rates and prioritizing emergency data. In this paper, we propose a new MAC protocol to provide different requirements of WBANs targeted for medical applications. The proposed MAC provides an efficient emergency response mechanism by considering the correlation between medical signals. It also reduces the power consumption of nodes by minimizing contention access, reducing the probability of the collision and using an efficient synchronization algorithm. In addition, the proposed MAC protocol increases the data rate of the nodes by allocating the resources according to the condition of the network. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed MAC protocol outperforms IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol in terms of power consumption level as well as the average response delay. Also, the comparison results of the proposed MAC with IEEE 802.15.6 MAC protocol show a tradeoff between average response delay and medical data rate.

  • In this paper, the impact of energy constraints on a two-hop network with a source, a relay and a destination under random medium access is studied. A collision channel with erasures is considered, and the source and the relay nodes have energy harvesting capabilities and an unlimited battery to store the harvested energy. Additionally, the source and the relay node have external traffic arrivals and the relay forwards a fraction of the source node's traffic to the destination; the cooperation is performed at the network level. An inner and an outer bound of the stability region for a given transmission probability vector are obtained. Then, the closure of the inner and the outer bound is obtained separately and they turn out to be identical. This work is not only a step in connecting information theory and networking, by studying the maximum stable throughput region metric but also it taps the relatively unexplored and important domain of energy harvesting and assesses the effect of that on this important measure.

  • 406MHz and INMARSAT-E EPIRB facility transmits the distress alerts by the relay of the polar-satellites and INTELSAT, but may cause the probability of delayed transmission because of the orbital period and not compliance with the implementation of GMDSS rules for small ships in A1 area.. Digital Selective Calling forms a critical part of the terrestrial elements of the GMDSS system and ensures the reliability and the efficiency in the system. In this paper, we suggests that new DSC EPIRB in the VHF band to overcome this defect for small ships in A1 area, and analyze the ITU-R recommendations and technical characteristics, design and implement the algorithm of calling sequences, frequency synthesizer for the RF signal and FSK moulation signals.

  • Cognitive radio systems are being implemented recently to tackle spectrum underutilization problems and aid efficient data traffic. Spectrum sensing is the crucial step in cognitive applications in which cognitive user detects the presence of primary user (PU) in a particular channel thereby switching to another channel for continuous transmission. In cognitive radio systems, the capacity to precisely identify the primary user's signal is essential to secondary user so as to use idle licensed spectrum. Based on the inherent capability, a new spectrum sensing technique is proposed in this paper to identify all types of primary user signals in a cognitive radio condition. Hence, a spectrum sensing algorithm using improved convolutional neural network and long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM) is presented. The principle used in our approach is simulated annealing that discovers reasonable number of neurons for each layer of a completely associated deep neural network to tackle the streamlining issue. The probability of detection is considered as the determining parameter to find the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. Experiments are carried under different signal to noise ratio to indicate better performance of the proposed algorithm. The PU signal will have an associated modulation format and hence identifying the presence of a modulation format itself establishes the presence of PU signal.

  • Efficient energy consumption in WSN is one of the key design issues for improving network stability period. In this paper, we propose a new Heterogeneity-aware Energy-efficient Clustering (HEC) technique which considers two types of heterogeneity - network lifetime and of sensor nodes. Selection of cluster head nodes is done based on the three network lifetime phases: only advanced nodes are allowed to become cluster heads in the initial phase; in the second active phase all nodes are allowed to participate in cluster head selection process with equal probability, and in the last dying out phase, clustering is relaxed by allowing direct transmission. Simulation-based performance analysis of the proposed technique as compared to other relevant techniques shows that HEC achieves longer stable region, improved throughput, and better energy dissipation owing to judicious consumption of additional energy of advanced nodes. On an average, the improvement observed for stability period over LEACH, SEP, FAIR and HEC- with SEP protocols is around 65%, 30%, 15% and 17% respectively. Further, the scalability of proposed technique is tested by varying the field size and number of sensing nodes. The results obtained are found to be quite optimistic. The impact of energy heterogeneity has also been assessed and it is found to improve the stability period though only upto a certain extent.

  • The arrangement of I-picture starting times of multiplexed variable bit .ate (VBR) MPEG videos may significantly affect the cell loss ratio (CLR) characteristics of the multiplexed traffic. This paper presents an efficient I-picture arrangement method which can minimize the CLR of the multiplexed traffic when multiple VBR MPEG videos are multiplexed onto a single constant bit rate link. In the proposed method, we use the probability that the arrival rate exceeds the link capacity as the measure for the CLR of the multiplexed traffic. Simulation results show that the proposed method can find more optimal arrangement than existing methods in respect of the CLR.

  • A wiretap channel I is one of the channel models that was proved to achieve unconditional security. However, it has been an open problem in realizing such a channel model in a practical network environment. The paper is committed to solve the open problem by introducing a novel approach for building wiretap channel I in which the eavesdropper sees a binary symmetric channel (BSC) with error probability p while themain channel is error free. By taking advantage of the feedback and low density parity check (LDPC) codes, our scheme adds randomness to the feedback signals from the destination for keeping an eavesdropper ignorant; on the other hand, redundancy is added and encoded by the LDPC codes such that a legitimate receiver can correctly receive and decode the signals. With the proposed approach, unconditionallysecure communication can be achieved through interactive communications, in which the legitimate partner can realize the secret information transmission without a pre-shared secret key even if the eavesdropper has better channel from the beginning.

  • In this paper, We report on the performance issues faced by TCP based applications on satellite link having long propagation delay and high probability of bit erros and propose ENA(Error Notification Ack) algorithm for TCP Performance Enhancement. TCP Protocol cannot distinguish errored segments(in noisy medium) from losses of genuine network congestion and react as if there is network congestion. Therefore, Slow Start and Congestion avoidance mechanism are initiated. It happen this case in satellite link. Therefore it reduce the transmission rate and drop the performance. So, in this paper We propose ENA algorithm which is distinguished errored segments from losses of network congestion. And We propose the method of algorithm's implementation. And We evaluate the Performance of Tahoe, Reno, Sack TCP with ENA. As results, TCP Performance is better.

  • Research advances in the areas of micro-sensor device and wireless network technology, has made it possible to develop energy efficient and low cost wireless sensor nodes. In this paper, the forward error control (FEC) scheme for lower power consumption and excellent BER(Bit Error Rate) performance during transmission propose in multi-hop wireless sensor network based on FSK modem. The FEC technique uses extra processing power related to encoding and decoding, it is need complex functions to be built into the sensor node. The probability of receiving a correct bit and codeword for relaying a frame over h nodes to the sink node is calculated as a function of channel parameter, number of hops, number of bits transmitted and the distance between the different nodes.
