A Relay-assisted Secure Handover Mechanism for High-speed Trains

  • Considering that the existing Long Term Evolution is not suitable for the fast and frequent handovers of high-speed trains, this paper proposes a relay-assisted handover mechanism to solve the problems of long handover authentication time and vulnerable to security attacks. It can achieve mutual authentication for train-ground wireless communication, and data transmission is consistent with one-time pad at the same time. The security analysis, efficiency analysis and simulation results show that the proposed mechanism not only realizes the forward security and resists many common attacks, but also effectively reduces the computational overhead of train antenna during the secure handover process. When the running speed of a train is lower than 500km/h, the handover delay is generally lower than 50ms and the handover outage probability is less than 1.8%. When the running speed of a train is 350km/h, the throughput is higher than 16.4mbps in the process of handover. Therefore, the secure handover mechanism can improve the handover performance of high-speed trains.

  • A distributed uplink power control algorithm based on flocking model is proposed to improve the energy efficiency of mobiles station (MS) in cellular networks. As each bird in a flock matches its velocity with the average velocity of the adjacent birds, each MS in a cell matches its uplink rate with the average uplink rate of the co-channel MSs in adjacent cells by controlling its transmission power. Results show that the proposed algorithm effectively reduces the power consumption in the MS, while maintaining a low outage probability, which eventually improves the energy efficiency of the MS.

  • We aim at increasing the throughput of the hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) protocol in Space-Time (ST) coded multi-antenna transmission systems. By utilizing reliability information at the decoder, we obtain an improved probability of successful decoding, which enhances the overall system throughput at low-complexity. Simulations and analytical results demonstrate the performance of our scheme in impulse noise environment as well as AWGN and fading multi-input multi-ouput (MIMO) channels.

  • Cooperative ARQ scheme is effective for better QoS guarantee for the next generation mobile communication systems where multimedia data transmission highly increases. In this paper, we propose a cooperative ARQ strategy in ad hoc cognitive relays for mobile multimedia communication for supporting instantaneous cooperation in MANET environment. In the proposed strategy, to support real time, delay-sensitive services, whenever a frame is transmitted from the source, each relay actively senses the SINR of the signal transmitted from the source, and determine whether to propose retransmission or not before the destination transmits feedback signal. To minimize the false retransmission decision or needless retransmission, we propose an adaptive sensing threshold optimization algorithm to maintain suboptimal sensing thresholds for each relay. By computer simulation, it is shown that the proposed cooperative ARQ retransmission scheme outperforms the conventional schemes with respect to frame transmission delay and frame loss probability in real time multimedia data transmission system.

Service Class-Aided Scheduling for LTE (LTE를 위한 서비스 클래스를 고려한 스케줄링 기법)

  • LTE (Long Term Evolution) supports QoS (Quality of Service) with several service classes. For each class of traffic, a big difference exists on BER (Bit Error Rate) requirement. This leads to a considerable difference in transmission power for various classes of traffic. In this paper, a novel scheduler is designed and proposed for LTE which supports CoS (Class of Service) with the consideration of priority as well as target BER. By the CQI (Channel Quality Indicator) and QCI (QoS Class Identifier), a minimum transmission power is assigned from the target BER for each class of traffic per each user. Hence, with the other information such as user's used rate in the past and the priority of traffic, the probability of occupying channels is determined. The simulation results of Service Class scheduling are compared with that of Maximum Rate and Proportional Fair. The results show that the service class-aided scheduling can improve the throughput of whole system significantly.

  • In this paper, a dynamic minislot reservation protocol(DMRP) is proposed and analyzed to improve the performance of the multicast traffic processing in wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) networks. For the proposed protocol analysis, the WDM network architecture with a passive star coupler is used. One pair of transceiver is used for a control channel and the ocher pair of transceiver with one fixed transmitter and one tunable receiver are used for data transmission. In this protocol. the packets which fail to have successful transmission in the present time slot due to data channel and destination collisions, have priority to have successful reservation in the contention-less minislots of the next time slot. Therefore, protocols have improved the throughput and the system delay performance caused by the reduced probabilities of control channel contentions and destination collisions probability. Today, the efficient protocol that can handle the various types of data traffic is needed. As results, the DMRP is useful to improve the performance of throughput and system delay characteristics regardless of the kinds of traffic.

  • Wireless Body Area Network(WBAN) is a network standard around a human body which connects various medical sensor and devices It has to satisfy various demands such as data transmission rate, priority, and delay time. In this paper, considering a data priority and transmission delay time, is proposed to improve efficiency of WBAN service depending on congestion status of network. The proposed algorithm operates with adapted data removal probability according to data priority when the hub buffer is congested than before. And in the case of lower congestion within the hub buffer data is served considering data delay time. Through the comparison with other existing scheduling algorithms, it is confirmed that quality of WBAN service is improved due to lower data loss rate of medical data and less delay time in the proposed algorithm.

  • WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network) is network to support medical and non-medical services. It is susceptible to loss and delay of data. WBAN is required to satisfy many kinds of demands such as a variety of data rate and a data priority for providing various service. In this paper scheduling algorithm, considering a data priority and transmission delay time, is proposed to improve service quality of WBAN. The proposed algorithm operates by allocating a channel to a flow with longer transmission delay. When a packet, in a queue of herb, is left within a certain period, the packet is assigned a channel and transmitted according to a data priority. Through the comparison with other existing scheduling algorithms, it is confirmed that QoS is improved due to higher arrival probability of medical data and less delay time in the proposed algorithm.

  • Current mobile communication systems utilize the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission technique as an important means to enhance the bandwidth efficiency. Accurate beamforming via channel estimation contributes to the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) increase and the system performance improvement when MIMO transmission techniques are employed. Therefore, determination of beamforming vectors as well as the design of appropriate codebooks defining these codevectors play an important role in system operation. In this paper, we statistically analyze the phase difference between the channels corresponding to adjacent antenna elements in order to design an efficient codebook for uniform circular arrays (UCAs). We introduce new parameters which compensate for the additional phase difference observed in its probability density functions (PDFs). The performance of the proposed codebook is tested using the spatial channel model (SCM) to demonstrate its gain over the standard codebooks adopted in the long term evolution (LTE) Releases 8 and 10.

  • In wireless ad hoc networks, neighbor discovery is essential in the network initialization and the design of routing, topology control, and medium access control algorithms. Therefore, efficient neighbor discovery algorithms should be devised for self-organization in wireless ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic neighbor discovery (PND) algorithm, which aims at reducing the neighbor discovery time by adjusting the transmission probability of advertisement messages through the multiplicative-increase/multiplicative-decrease (MIMD) policy. To further improve PND, we consider the collision detection (CD) capability in which a device can distinguish between successful reception and collision of advertisement messages. Simulation results show that the transmission probabilities of PND and PND with CD converge on the optimal value quickly although the number of devices is unknown. As a result, PND and PND with CD can reduce the neighbor discovery time by 15.6% to 57.0% compared with the ALOHA-like neighbor discovery algorithm.
