The purpose of this study is to investigate the influences of water environmental program using PBL on pro-environmental behavior for 4th graders in elementary school. The results of this study are as follows. First, the experimental group is more effective in promoting the pro-environmental attitude compared with the control group. Second, the experimental group is more effective in promoting the pro-environmental behavior compared with the control group. Third, the experimental group is not more effective in promoting the pro-environmental knowledge compared with the control group. Fourth, students are concerned and interested in the environment and environmental problems of the daily-life. And, they presented positive attitude and active participation toward environmental preservation. So, the process of PBL using water environmental program showed that it promotes active learning participation and various action. In conclusion, the environmental education program through PBL program has a positive effect on pro-environmental attitudes and behavior of elementary school students. It is demanded that more intensive research on this study should be done, linking with teaching and learning method, as a follow-up activity.
This paper intends to investigate the hierarchical effects of personality variables and values on pro-environmental product purchase and recycling behaviors mediated by 3 factor environmental attitudes. Previous literature review on pro-environmental behaviors has three categories of research trends. The first category generally done during 70's and early 80's is mainly focused on identifying pro-environmental consumer groups. Second stream of studies has focused on the mediating and moderating effects of variables, such as PCE, environmental knowledge, the perceived importance of behavioral consequences etc., on various pro-environmental behaviors. The last and latest trends of literature is focused on hierarchical and interactive effects of variables on behaviors. Following the trends of literature is review of such specific variables as social responsibility, community mindedness, locus of control, values, and environmental attitudes. The result shows that both locus of control and social responsibility have positive effects on two of environmental attitudes, harmony with nature and limits to growth, but community mindedness did not have effects on environmental attitudes. And social belonging value has positive effects on two of environmental attitudes, limits to growth and nature over human, and environmental value has positive effects on the formation of harmony with nature and limits to growth. But self-actualization has negative effects. And it's also suggested the positive effects of environmental attitudes on purchase and recycling behaviors. Specifically, all environmental attitude variables have positive effects on the formation of pro-environmental product purchase and recycling behaviors except in case of the effects of nature over human to recycling. And it's also revealed that pro-environmental product purchase is a preceeding behavior to recycling behavior, which suggest that consumers have to purchase environment friendly and recyclable products in order to engage in effective recycling behavior. Various applications of the results are discussed in the conclusion.

This study investigates the effect of environmental club activities of the creative experiential learning activities on the improvement of students' Environmental Literacy and Pro-environmental Behavior. For that purpose, This study divided 24 students at Jinhae U Elementary School into test groups of 12 students and Control groups of 12 students. Test groups participated in the 'GomGomi' environmental Club for sixteen times from March 2011 to December 2011. Conclusions of this study include; First, we found that the environmental club activities is effective to improve the students' environmental Literacy overall. Specifically, the Environmental Club Activities was effective in the sub-catagories of environmental Literacy such as 'rights of nature' and 'eco-crisis'. However, there was no significant change in the sub-category of 'human exemptionalism' Second, we found that the environmental club activities is effective to improve students' pro-environmental behavior overall. Specifically, the environmental club activities was effective in the sub-domains of Pro-environmental Behavior such as 'cognitive domain' and 'affective domain'. However, there was no significant change in the sub-domains of 'behavioral domain'. Summary, the environmental club activities was shown to be effective for improving their environmental literacy and pro-environmental behavior; This study implies that the environmental club activities of the creative experiential learning activities would be a effective tool to help students to improve their environmental literacy and pro-environmental behavior.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of environmental education program through various instructional media on pro-environmental attitudes of forth graders in an elementary school in Seoul. The students were divided into an experimental group and a control group. A questionnaire was used to survey the effects of applying environmental education program through various instructional media. The SPSS 12.0 program was used to analyze the results. The student in the experimental group acquired a higher level of pro-environmental attitudes than the control group did. The environmental education program through various instructional media used in this study were effective especially in dealing with the environmental educational subdomains such as verbal commitment, actual commitment, affect. The major results of this study were as follows. First, environmental education program through various instructional media had a positive effect on the environmental concerns and needs for learning of environmental problems. Second, the group by environmental education program through various instructional media showed the significant difference(p<.001) on the pro-environmental attitudes as it proved those are effect on 3 subdomains of verbal commitment, actual commitment and affect. Third, environmental education program through various instructional media had a positive correlation(from 585 to .680) among the 3 subdomains of verbal commitment, actual commitment and affect. So, students who hold verbal commitment showed good effect on the actual commitment and affect. In conclusion, the environmental education program through various instructional media had a positive effect on pro-environmental attitudes of elementary school students. It is demanded that more intensive research on this study should be done, linking with teaching and teaming method, as a follow-up activity.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the energy campaign environmental education of 3rd graders in elementary school in Seoul. The students were divided into an experiment group and a control group. A reconstructed questionnaire through Kim(2005) and Lee(2005)'s test tool was used to survey the effects of applying the energy campaign environmental education program. The i-STATistics program was used to analyze the results. The major results of this study are as follows. First, the researcher was able to develop and apply teaching-learning model for energy campaign environmental education by extracting and recreating the energy education-related contents from the lower grades(1, 2, 3 grade) in 2007 elementary school curriculum. Second, this program had a positive effect on pro-environmental altitudes of elementary school students. Third, this program had a positive correlation among the 3 subdomains of cognitive, affective and behavioral. Fourth, according to qualitative analysis, the students appear to be more concerned in the overall environmental problems containing energy problem and showed a higher will to act while participating in the environmental education through energy campaign program. In conclusion, this program is more directly effective than lectures on energy following the curriculum to improve student's pro-environmental altitudes. Therefore, more intensive research on teaching and learning activities should be highly considered.
This empirical study is to verify the moderating effects of environmental education on pro-environmental consumers. For this purpose, we used Value-Attitude-Behaviro Model(VAB). In addition, as an environmental education method, the environmental education method using 7 environmental movies by the multimedia with excellent learning effect in order to increase the interest and educational commitment of the learners was utilized. A total of 116 subjects were divided into experimental group and control group, and the experiment was designed based on Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design to grasp the effect of environmental education after conducting environmental education to the experiment group. The results of the analysis showed that environmental education had no effect on environmental values but it had a positive effect on improving the attitude and the pro-environmental behavior. This study proved that the sustainable environmental education could form pro-environmental behavior, even though the environmental sense of values had not been formed in adolescence, and furthermore, the earlier researches had been mainly focused on the effect of the environmental education for the adolescent.
Using the structural equation model (SEM), this paper investigated the relations between the recognition of forest ecosystem services and the pro-environmental behavior with personal environmental commitment and environmental consciousness. The research data was collected from April 11 to 21, 2019, as an online survey by residents in Korea. 425(91.4%) of the total 465 copies were used as final analysis data, excluding insincere responses. Results showed that most respondents recognized forest ecosystem services as positive and recognition of forest ecosystem services has a positive impact on both environmental commitment and environmental consciousness. Moreover, cultural services positively affected both constructs more than supply and control services. The most significant total effect was the path of 'cultural services-environmental commitment-pro-environmental behavior'. Environmental commitment is more effective in inducing the behavior than environmental consciousness to those who consider forest ecosystem services significant. Even if forest ecosystem services are recognized as important, those with experience of commitment to the natural environment would have more intention of pro-environmental behavior. In conclusion, this study is meaningful in that it identified the hypothesized path relationship between the recognition of forest ecosystem services and the pro-environmental behavior and analyzed the antecedent factors.
Background: A very high incidence of lung cancer is observed in Mizoram and Manipur, North East India. We conducted a population based case control study to establish associations of p53 codon 72 polymorphisms and interactions with environmental factors for this high incidence. Material and Methods: A total of 272 lung cancer cases and 544 controls matched for age (${\pm}5years$), sex and ethnicity were collected and p53 codon 72 polymorphism genotypes were analyzed using a polymerase chain based restriction fragment length polymorphism assay. We used conditional multiple logistic regression analysis to calculate adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals after adjusting for confounding factors. Results: p53 Pro/Pro genotype was significantly associated with increased risk of lung cancer in the study population (adjusted OR=2.14, CI=1.35-3.38, p=0.001). Interactions of the p53 Pro/Pro genotype with exposure to wood smoke (adjusted OR=3.60, CI=1.85-6.98, p<0.001) and cooking oil fumes (adjusted OR=3.27, CI=1.55-6.87, p=0.002), betel quid chewing (adjusted OR=3.85, CI=1.96-7.55, p<0.001), tobacco smoking (adjusted OR=4.42, CI=2.27-8.63, p<0.001) and alcohol consumption (adjusted OR=3.31, CI=1.10-10.03, p=0.034) were significant regarding the increased risk of lung cancer in the study population. Conclusions: The present study provided preliminary evidence that a p53 codon 72 polymorphism may effect lung cancer risk in the study population, interacting synergistically with environmental factors.
BACKGROUND: The vigorous shoot growth in upper part of apple tree canopy leads to poor fruit quality and flower bud formation in lower part of canopy. So, this study was conducted to develop the proper control method about the shoot growth in upper part of apple tree canopy. METHODS AND RESULTS: Trunks of 'Fuji'/M9 apple trees were cut (back pruned) to 2.5 m in tree height on 11 February (dormant) or 12 April (full bloom). Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) was applied at 2.0% to cut surface when trunk was pruned. Prohexadione-calcium (Pro-Ca) was sprayed at 250 mg/L above 2.0 m in tree height at 23 April (petal fall). The NAA or Pro-Ca application after trunk was pruned at dormant (TR-2 and TR-3) significantly reduced shoot growth in upper part of canopy compared with the control (tree was only pruned at dormant, TR-1), but the percent of shoots showing the secondary growth of TR-3 was higher over 2 times than that of TR-2. The reduction of shoot growth in upper part of canopy by TR-2 and TR-3 increased the fruit red color from the lower part in the treating year and blooming of the lower part in the following year. CONCLUSION: Applying 2.0% NAA to cut surface of pruned apple trunk at dormant was the most effective way for stabilization of the tree vigor in upper part of the canopy in a high density apple orchard.

If petroleum- derived plastic like a bio-based plastic was degradation, awareness like a global warming and environmental disasters will be decreased. Plastic film was produced by adding ferric ions according to concentration by using a pro-oxidant in polyolefin resin. Changes in tensile strength, elongation, and molecular weight were evaluated according to the UV irradiation time. Increasing the amount of ferric ions resulted in more significant declines of physical properties, and also resulted in greater changes in molecular weight. After 100 hours of UV irradiation, tensile strength declined significantly in the film containing pro-oxidant as compared to the control. A similar effect was also observed in terms of elongation. The film containing pro-oxidant showed a 73.8% decrease in molecular weight after 100 hours of UV irradiation. The appropriate use of pro-oxidant can not only degrade plastic film but also control the time of degradation at the petroleum-derived plastic films. Further studies are necessary to investigate the conditions of plastic film degradation.
