미세 전류 자극에 따른 복부 체지방 감소 및 다이어트 효과에 대한 임상 시험 연구 (Potential Effects of Micro-Current Stimulation for Reduction of Abdominal Fat and Weight Loss: Clinical Study)

  • Obesity is considered as a primary health problem over the past century in line with life environmental changes. It is mainly associated with increased risk of numerous chronic diseases which may significantly reduce health-related quality of life. Therefore, efforts to reduce weight should be performed. This study suggested a novel approach to reduce body fat by applying external stimulation which is micro-current stimulation (MCS). In this clinical study, we evaluated the potential effects of MCS for reduction of abdominal fat and weight loss. Prior to the clinical test, computational simulation was conducted to find the proper MCS conditions that allow externally applied stimulation to reach the internal fat section from the external skin. Particularly, the clinical study evaluated the unilateral effects of MCS for body fat loss and lipolysis without any additional limitations such as physical exercise and dietary therapy. The results showed that whole body fat, waist circumferences, and abdominal fat are gradually decreased after intervention in proportion to the time. From the results, we can estimate that MCS can be effective on the body fat loss by activation of lipolysis in human adipose.

진도견에서 발생한 후천성 갑상선 기능저하증 (Primary hypothyroidism in Jindo dog)

  • A four-year-old female Jindo dog was admitted to the hospital because of bilaterally symmetrical alopecia and inappentence. Systemic abnomalities detected on physical examination were obesity, bradycardia, exercise intolerance, mental dullness and hypothermia. Dermatologically symmetrical alopecia on the back, trunk and dorsal tail, and ventral hyperpigmentation were observed. Also face was very tragic. The level of basal $T_4$ was 0.01ug/dl. In TSH stimulation test $fT_4$ value was 0.08ng/dl. After treatment was initiated with L-thyroxine the dog's general condition was improved at 4 weeks.

경두개직류전류자극이 시열반응과제에 대한 운동 수행 능력에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Motor Performance of Serial Reaction Time Task)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate whether motor cortex excitability by transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over primary motor cortex (M1) affects motor performance of serial reaction task. Methods: Cathodal, anodal and sham tDCS (1 mA) are applied over right M1 of 24 subjects for 30 minutes including 11minutes for task period time. We applied two electrodes at the same position to both an experimental group and a sham-controlled group, and we made 2 groups recognize to be applicated of stimulation. Flexion, extension of wrist and thumb flexion are carried out following colors of arrows on the monitor. Serial reaction time task was applied to confirm the difference of the reaction time between 2 groups. Results: Reaction time is decreased in both tDCS-group and Sham-controlled tDCS group, and the degree of reduction is much greater in the post-test than pre-test. Reduction of reaction time between groupsis statistically significant. Conclusion: We consider that anodal tDCS increased the cortical excitability of the underlying motor cortex and it can be helpful to modulate motor performance. It seems that tDCS is an effective modality to modulate brain function, and it will be great help to mediate strategy for the brain injury patients.

일부 초등학생의 치아우식활성검사를 이용한 계속구강건강관리 효과 (The Result of Oral Health Care on Primary School Children Using Dental Caries Activity Test)

  • 보건의료분야의 제반환경의 개선에도 불구하고 국민들의 구강건강상태는 아직도 OECD국가 중에서 매우 열악한 상태이다. 국민들의 구강건강을 효율적으로 증진유지하기 위해서는 중대구강병인 치아우식증을 예방하고 조기에 치료할 수 있는 구강보건진료가 이루어져야 한다. 특히 평생구강건강유지에 중요한 연령층인 초등학교학생들을 대상으로 정기적인 계속구강건강관리제도가 시급히 필요하나 초등학생 대상 계속구강건강관리방식의 치아우식예방관리법의 효과에 관한 사례가 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 광주광역시 소재의 S 치과에 2005년 12월부터 2006년 2월에 내원한 만6세에서 13세 환자 중 환자보호자의 동의를 받은 총 39명을 대상으로 실험군과 대조군으로 분류하여 치아우식활성도와 치아우식경험도를 조사하여 지역사회 치과의원에서 기초자료로 활용할 목적으로 시행한바 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 계속구강건강관리군의 기간별 Alban's test 및 Lactobacillius test 점수는 6개월경과 후 초진시의 1.4배에서 1.5배 감소되었고, 12개월경과 후 초진시의 1.5배에서 1.6배 감소되었다(p<0.001). 2. 계속구강건강관리군의 기간별 간이구강위생지수는 6개월과 12개월경과 후 초진시의 1.6배 감소되었다(p<0.05). 3. 12개월경과 후 우식경험영구치지수는 계속관리군(1.88개)에서 대조군(2.72개)보다 1.4배 감소되었으며, 우식영구치지수는 계속관리군(0.07개)에서 대조군(0.85개)보다 12배 감소되었다(p<0.05). 4. 12개월경과 후 제1대구치건강도는 계속관리군(98.04%)에서 대조군(95.97%)보다 1.02배 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 이상과 같은 결과에 의하여 지역사회 치과의원에서 지속적인 계속구강건강관리제도를 시행하여 아동의 평생구강건강상태를 유지시켜야 한다고 사료되었다.

방사성 면역측정상의 혈청 FSH와 LH에 관한 일차성 무월경증 환자의 진단적 고찰 (Diagnostic Evaluation of Serum FSH and LH in Primary Amenorrhea by Radioimmunoassay)

  • The usefulness of single, random measurements of serum FSH and LH in the diagnosis of primary amenorrhea by radioimmunoassay was investigated. The 16 patients were divided into 3 groups by the level of serum FSH and LH. The first group with increased level of serum FSH and LH is five patients, all of these are related to the acquired or congenital abnormality of the ovary. Further studies indicated include buccal smear, chromosome analysis, gynecography and laparosocopy. The second group with normal serum FSH and LH is nine patients, four patients of these are related to the developmental anomaly of the Mullerian duct and five patients are undo etermined origin. Further studies indicated include laparoscopy and gynecography. The third group with decreased serum FSH and normal or decreased serum LH is two patients, one of these is related to the pituitary function, isolated FSH deficiency, the other is undetermined origin. Further studies indicated include the pituitary function test, LH-RH stimulation test, skull radiography. Determination of serum FSH and LH levels does not permit a specific etiologic diagnosis of primary amenorrhea. However the serum levels of FSH and LH can be used to differentiate the principal area of the investigation and can be of assistance in choosing more specific testing procedures.

시상하부-뇌하수체 질환에 있어서 뇌하수체의 TSH 분비능에 관한 연구 (Functional Evaluation of TSH Secretory Reserve Capacity in Hypothalamopituitary Disorders)

  • The TRH stimulation test was known as a highly diagnostic method in hypothalamopituitary disorders. To evaluate the location and the extension of the lesion, we estimated TSH response to TRH test in 27 patients. Correlation between volume of sella and TSH response was also studied. The results obtained were as follows: 1. In Sheehan's syndrome, TSH response after TRH test were not observed in all of 12 patients. 2. All 2 acromegaly patients showed normal TSH response. 3. In 4 cases of chromophobe adenoma, 2 cases showed no TSH response. In 2 responded cases, one patient whose tumor mass extended to suprasella region was hypothyroid state. 4. In craniopharyingioma 3 cases, the tumor which extended to intrasella showed hypothyroid and no TSH response. 5. Correlation between volume of sella and TSH response were valuable in 2 cases, but no diagnostic significance. 6. In diabetes inspidus, TSH response were all absent. 7. In primary amenorrhea, TSH response observed in 1 case, which conformed with isolated FSH deficiency.

인체 유산균 배양액의 피부 안전성 임상 연구 (Clinical research on the skin saftey of the human derived lactic acid culture)

  • 인체의 두피 각질에서 유산균 Leuconostoc mesenteroides을 분리하여 배양하고 이를 함유한 가용화 에센스를 피부에 첩포한 후 자극 유무 검증을 통해 화장품의 소재로 활용 가능성을 판단하고자 하였다. 1% 농도로 희석한 L. mesenteroides 배양액과 이를 1% 함유한 에센스를 제조하여 L. mesenteroides 배양액은 31명, 에센스는 32명의 피시험자들의 등 부위에 24시간 첩포하고 이를 제거한 후 30분, 24시간, 48시간 후의 상태를 피부과 전문의가 육안으로 판독하여 자극 지수를 산출하였다. 이 결과 L. mesenteroides 배양액은 0.011점, 에센스는 0점이 도출되어 모두 무자극으로 피부에 안전한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서의 일차자극시험 결과와 선행 연구에서 보고된 항알레르기, 항산화, 항염 활성능 등을 미루어 보아 저 농도의 L. mesenteroides 배양액은 피부에 안전하여 향후 기초화장품에 적용 시 피부자극이 없는 소재로 활발한 연구가 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

소아근시에 대한 눈 주위혈 지압의 유효성 및 안전성 평가 연구 (The Efficacy and Safety of Periocular Acupoint Stimulation on Myopia Progression in Children: A Study Protocol)

  • Objectives Myopia has a higher prevalence rate in eastern countries, which also have a higher rate of educational fever compared to western countries. Considering this, social costs paid for myopia will increase rapidly in Korea. Although the development of myopia treatment is necessary, there has been a lack of relevant studies. Thus, this study aims to produce data to prevent unnecessary treatments and medical expenses. Methods The objective is to evaluate the effect of periocular acupressure exerted by a medical massager for myopia. This is an open-label, prospective, single-arm, and pre and post superiority study. The subjects are 7~12-year-old myopia patients with under 5 D (diopter) of spherical equivalent. A total of 56 subjects were enrolled. The selected subjects will wear the massager for 15 minutes twice a day for 24 weeks. The primary endpoint is the refraction change. The secondary endpoint is the axial length change. Statistical analysis was performed at a significant level of 0.05, using a two-tailed test. The criterion for significantly improved refraction was $-0.17{\pm}0.50$ D/6 months and that of axial length change was 0.126 mm. Results and Conclusions This study did not include a control group because children represent a vulnerable group. This objective study will bring some impact on Korean medical myopia treatment. A long-term confirmatory clinical study may be necessary in future.

The Effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on Cognitive Function and Biochemical Change of Rats with Alzheimer's Desease

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to offer clinical primary data that it's aims to examine effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on cognitive function and biochemical change of rat with alzheimer's disease(AD) induced by injecting scopolamine. Methods: Subjects were instructed cognitive dysfunction model, rat of Sprague-Dawley system was injected with scopolamine and each experimental group was classified into three; group I (n=16) is non-treatment groups; group II (n=16) is applied with the tacrine; group III (n=16) is applied with the tDCS. The ziggurat task test was conducted to observe behavioral changes and cognitive function ability and 7, 14, 21, 28 days after the model. Acetylcholine Esterase (Ach E) activity was examined for biochemical assessment of which the results are followed. Results: Participants showed as to behavioral change, tacrine application group was the most significantly responded, following tDCS application group. As to biochemical change, same as above, tacrine application group was the most significantly responded, following tDCS application group. Conclusion: From these results, confirm that tDCS application to rat with alzheimer's disease leads to positive effects on behavioral, cognitive function changes, and biochemical changes, lasting for certain period of time. This study, in particular, tDCS, which can change excitability of brain cells non-invasively, could provide basic data that is useful as a new treatment way for the patients with cognitive dysfunction.

성조숙증 소아 대상 중재 임상시험의 등록 현황 보고 -Clinicaltrial.gov, WHO ICTPR, CRIS를 중심으로- (The Current State of Registration of Interventional Clinical Trials for Children and Adolescents with Precocious Puberty)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of interventional clinical trial registration for children with precocious puberty and to secure basic data for the design of clinical trials for traditional Korean medicine treatment of precocious puberty. Methods The following resources were used to search for data: Clinicaltrial.gov, World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (WHO ICTRP), and Clinical Research Information Service (CRIS), using the search terms, 'Precocious puberty', 'child'. All clinical trials which were registered as of June 2022 were used. Results For the intervention and clinical trial design, gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) analog was reported in 41.7% of trials, and single group assignment was performed in 66.7% of the studies. Prior consent had not been reported in 50% of the studies. Tanner stage and GnRH stimulation tests were reported by multiple trials as inclusion criteria, and prior treatment experiences for trial drugs were reported as exclusion criteria. The peak serum concentration of luteinizing hormone following GnRH stimulation test was used as a primary outcome in 45.8% of clinical trials, and other growth-related indicators such as growth rate, height, and predicted adult height were also reported. Conclusions In consideration of the design, eligibility criteria, and outcome measurement of the existing clinical trials identified in this study, it should be referred to in the design of clinical trials for traditional Korean medicine treatment of precocious puberty.
