색으로 본 김환기의 작품 세계 (Study on the colors of Kim Whan-ki's painting)

  • Kim Whan-ki is an unusual instance in Korean modern artists, who payed attention to emotional and expressive effects of colors. The color of Whan-ki's paintings have been recognized as linked with 'blue' in spite that he used colors within the category of 'Colors of Five Directions(五方色)', which are traditional oriental colors composed of red, lue, yellow, white, green and black. Kim Whan-ki unearthed upon similarity of Five Directions Colors to the three(five) primary colors which modern abstract painter like Mondrian layed down. Whan-ki switched the five directions colors to modern ones. Kim Whan-ki's dot painting in which pure and watery color is sucked in ground is modernistic adaptation from ink painting. He packs a dot with sky and earth, moon and stars, forest and tree, birds and flowers, friends at his hometown, wind, sound and so on. Putting tens of thousands of these shapes and colors into a dot is modernistic version from ink painting. In that point there is a possibility to say that 'dark blue' of the dot painting is 'Hyun-saec(玄色)'. Eventually we can make sure that Kim Whan-ki's view of Art originated in oriental philosophy and beauty.

A Study on the Primary Color Value Setting of Yin and Yang Five Elements

  • The ancient ancestors of Korea believed that the five directions of east, west, south, and north were important, and that there was a god in charge of each of the five directions, and that he was in charge of the universe, nature, and life. In Korea, the traditional colors follow the Yin and Yang Five Ceremony. The five elements were placed in the bearings symbolized by wood, fire, earth, iron, and water, namely east, south, center, west, and north, and the symbolic colors were called blue, red, yellow, white, and black according to their connotations. These colors should be the five element colors. In studying the colors of the five elements, this researcher found that the five element colors were inconsistent in each of the existing studies. Therefore, the characteristics of the Yin and Yang Five Elements were carefully examined, and the Five Element Colors pursued by the ancestors were identified, and the Five Element Colors were defined to fit the present era. According to modern color standards, the three primary colors of color, cyan, magenta yellow, and the five colors of pure black and pure white, can be said to be the colors that most correspond to the Yin and Yang Five Symbols.

  • Last year, we introduced a TFT-LCD with RGBW color system. The primary advantage of the RGBW system is that its optical efficiency is at least 50% higher than the RGB system. However, it is not a simple task to incorporate the new color system into the infrastructure of the RGB system: the driving circuitry, fabrication of color filter, and color conversion. In this report, the practical hurdles are discussed and the solutions are presented.

Coded Single Input Channel for Color Pattern Recognition in Joint Transform Correlator

  • Recently, we reported a single input channel joint transform correlator for the color pattern recognition which decomposes the input color image into three R, G, and B gray components and adds those components into a single gray image in the input plane. This technique has the merit of a single input channel instead of three input channels. However, we found this technique has some problems with discrimination impossibility in the case of a simple primary color pattern which results in the same gray level through the addition process. Thus, we propose a modified coding technique which selectively recombines the decomposed three R, G, and B gray components instead of the simple adding process. Simulated results show that the modified coding technique can accurately discriminate a variety of kinds of color images.

  • A computer simulation was performed to distinguish quantitatively a color reaction in a urine analysis systems by using the spectral power distribution of LEDs. the spectral reflectance of a urine strip. and the spectral sensitivity of photodiode. The CIE tristimulus values and CIE chromaticity coordinates ware modified to be conformable with real color reactions in a urine strips. Results on color simulation showed a of real color in comparison with those obtained by Colorimeter CM2C(Color Savvy).

치아 미백 효과의 장기화를 위한 Resin Infiltration의 활용 (Utilization of Resin Infiltration for Prolonging of Tooth Whitening Effects)

  • 최근 들어 치아 미백술이 대중화되고 있으나, 단기간내 색소 재침착 등 고유의 한계점이 극복되지는 못 하고 있는 실정이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 치아 미백 효과의 색조 안정성을 향상시킬 방법의 하나로서, resin infiltration의 활용 타당성을 평가할 목적으로 시도되었다. 건전한 총 40개 우치 전치 순면으로부터 법랑질 시편을 채취, 제작하여 1차 착색 및 미백술을 시행하였다. 21일 경과후 시편을 무작위로 3개 군으로 나누어, resin infiltration군(RI군) 과 레진 접착제군(RA군)에 각 15개씩, 그리고 나머지 10개를 대조군으로 하였다. 마지막으로 전체 시편에 대하여 2차 착색을 시행하였다. 전 연구과정에서 색조 평가는 최초상태, 착색 직후, 미백제 적용후, 각 재료 적용후 및 2차 착색 후의 총 5회를 시행하였으며, spectrophotometer를 이용하여 측정하고 CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ 색조계로 기록하였다. 모든 군이 착색 후 $L^*$ 값은 감소, $a^*$, $b^*$ 값은 증가하였으며, RI군과 RI군 모두 재료 적용 전후의 유의한 색조변화는 없었다(p > 0.05). 1차 착색 전후의 색조변화량은 RI군, RA군 및 대조군에서 각각, $12.16{\pm}3.50$, $12.16{\pm}3.38$, $15.81{\pm}6.39$였던 반면, 2차 착색 전후의 변화량은 각각 $15.21{\pm}7.19$, $15.93{\pm}4.31$, 그리고 $26.62{\pm}17.89$로 나타났다. 2차 착색 후의 색조변화량은 RI군과 대조군간에 유의한 차이를 보였다. 또한, 1, 2 차 착색 전후의 각 군내 색조변화량 비교에 있어서는, RA 군과 대조군에 있어서는 유의한 차이를 보였으나(p < 0.05), RI군에서는 차이가 존재하지 않았다(p = 0.26). 이상의 결과로 보아, 재착색에 민감한 미백후의 치아에 대하여 레진 접착제의 적용으로는 미흡하며, resin infiltration을 통하여 색조 안정성을 향상시킬 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

현대패션에 응용된 신조형주의의 조형요소에 관한 연구 - 몬드리안 회화를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Formative Elements of Neo-plasticism Applied on Contemporary Fashion)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between the trend of art and fashion which predominate a certain time. In order to achieve this goal, this study intends to analyze how plasticity found in Mondrian's pictures are applied to modern fashion with its focus on formative elements. Mondrian was ahead of abstractionism, a major trend of contemporary art, and defined the theory of neo-plasticism. The theory of neo-plasticism defined by Mondrian is characterized by the limited expression of lines and shapes by using only vertical and horizontal straight lines, and right angles and four-sided figures weaved by the lines, and the use of achromatic color(black, white, and gray) in three primary colors(red, blue, and yellow). Based on his theory, he fully displayed the world of geometric abstraction. Mondrian's formative elements which have been applied in modern fashion can be divided into shape and color, For the element of shape, first, horizontal and vertical lines have been applied to patterns, trimmings, detail, and plane of textiles through simplification of design, representing proportion, balance, and stress in a silhouette, Second, plane and diamond shapes made of horizontal and vertical lines have been applied to textiles or patterns with uniqueness. For the element of color, first, three primary colors and achromatic colors are used to seek the aesthetics of balance and harmony that are produced in the strain of conflict through brightness, chroma, and complementary colors, Second, primary colors of high chroma and brightness which are much stronger than pictures are used to express a modern sense. Formative elements of neo-plasticism, which have been applied to modern fashion suggested by this study, are connected with the trend of art contemporary designers have borrowed, Accordingly, this study will become a very helpful material which provides designers with original ideas in developing materials and patterns which connect design with art.

마티스 회화의 색채 자율성이 현대 패션디자인에 미친 영향 (The Influence of Color Autonomy in Matisse Paintings on Modern Fashion Design)

  • The painting style has much influenced on the creativity of design in the developmental process of modern fashion. This fact tells that pure art and fashion design have the same purpose in the end. In this paper. the color Autonomy of Matisse was analyzed and how its result influences on modern fashion design was investigated. Matisse is, in fact. the leader of Fauvism and the painter who brought the Fauvism painting to its perfection in the purest state. Matisse achieved the revolution of new color with only the color in expressing formative factor. Matisse's color autonomy are fusion technique, flatness, decoration, simplicity, etc. To sum up the influence that this autonomy played on modern fashion design, intensive pure color expression, strongly-supplemented color effect among primary colors, decoration of color, simplicity of color, that is to say. he gave rise to the revolution of color, Many modern designers are applying this method to the theme of fashion and motive, color the technique of expression. Thanks to this. the new formative artistic expression could be adapted in fashion, and it also induced the inspiration of original design, with great contribution to bringing the era of its own distinct individualism in modern times.

  • This research is regarding color-analyzing Italian children's furniture and display space, in which application method of furniture display is looked at by understanding relations of furniture and display space through theoretical consideration and by understanding each factor of composition. Moreover, it establishes a formality of scientific and systematic standard in the color scheme of furniture and display space through using NCS Color System and the related Color Harmony Theory of Ostwald and Faber Birren as analysis tools. In the process of analyzing the colors of furniture and display space, I aimed to comprehend color trend of Italian children's furniture display space by comparing and analyzing Italian children's furniture dealers. I was able to comprehend the color relationship between furniture and display space from the results of analysis of examples of children's furniture display space and analysis of color deviation. Therefore, with this research I suggest the primary data and application strategy from a systematic point of view through Color Harmony Theory in color scheme of children's furniture display space in contemporary Italy.

이미지 검색을 위한 칼라 분포 기술자의 성능 평가 (An Empirical Evaluation of Color Distribution Descriptor for Image Search)

  • As more and more digital images are made by various applications, image retrieval becomes a primary concern in technology of multimedia. This paper presents color based descriptor that uses information of color distribution in color images which is the most basic element for image search and performance of proposed visual feature is evaluated through the simulation. In designing the image search descriptor used color histogram, HSV, Daubechies 9/7 and 2 level wavelet decomposition provide better results than other parameters in terms of computational time and performances. Also histogram quadratic matrix outperforms the sum of absolute difference in similarity measurements, but spends more than 60 computational times.
