Amelogenesis imperfecta patients suffered common clinical problems of poor esthetics, teeth sensitivity, and loss of occlusal vertical dimension. Amelogenesis imperfecta is a group of inherited disorders primarily affecting dental enamel. Variants of amelogenesis imperfecta generally classified hypoplastic, hypocalcified, or hypomaturation types based on the primary enamel defects. The mildest problems were found in the pitted hypoplastic type whereas the most severe problems were encountered in the hypocalcified type amelogenesis imperfecta. Management stragies include composite resin veneer and jacket crowns for anterior teeth as well as steel crowns for posterior teeth. Knowledge of the clinical features and dental complications of each variants if amelogenesis impecta helps in the diagnosis of the condition and allows institution of early preventive measures. The objective of this paper is to provide a review of the current concepts of the wide spectrum of etiological factors involved in the pathogenesis of this significance clinical entity in the primary dentition.
Korean government enacted the 1st Basic Plan for Low Fertility and Population Ageing in 2005 due to the long-lasting ultra-low birth rate. Based on the Act, Korean government set up a step-by-step strategic goal and establish a basic plan, every five years, to achieve the sustainable development of society corresponding to low fertility and aging society. Over the past decade, the 1st Basic Plan for Low Fertility and Population Ageing (2006-2010) and the 2nd Basic Plan for Low Fertility and Population Ageing (2011-2015) was executed. This year, based on the achievements and limitations of the 1st and 2nd Basic Plan, the 3rd Basic Plan for Low Fertility and Population Ageing begins. In this manuscript, I discuss the background of the 3rd Basic Plan and its significance in oral health area.
Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of self-control and interpersonal relationship satisfaction on department satisfaction among dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey was conducted on 306 dental hygiene students from Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang. Results: The factors affecting college department satisfaction of dental hygiene students were interpersonal relationship satisfaction (β=0.609), volunteer activities_dummy 1 (No/Yes) (β=0.131), and year_dummy 3 (1/4) (β=0.128). The most deterministic factor was interpersonal relationship satisfaction with the explanatory power of 37%. Conclusions: Based on these results, it is thought that research on department satisfaction needs to be actively conducted to develop adequate measures and programs to enhance department satisfaction of students.
Periodic oral examination must be accomplished in elementary and high schools in every year, but many problemes happened to be checked out. So, the author questionnaired problem to school nurses about the periodic oral examination. The obtained results were as follows: 1. It took about 24 seconds per child to examine oral status. 2. It was revealed that school nurses could not be able to accomplish reporting about the children's oral health status. 3. generally speaking, school nurses had affirmative views about the periodic oral examination. 4. It was needed that incremental dental care system was operated for school children. 5. It was concluded that school dental health with man-power problem was dealt on the government level.
Although the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) calculates oral health functional restriction rate and chewing discomfort rate every year, these two indicators are not all indicators of oral health. Therefore, indicators are needed to subdivide by age group and cover dental caries, periodontal disease, remaining teeth, and oral care use. The purpose of this study is to identify the key indicators of oral health in mature and middle age. The average number of existing natural teeth, the rates of 20 or more natural teeth, complaints of chewing discomfort, oral examination, periodontal disease and dental caries, were analyzed using KNHANES VI (2013-2015) as a complex sample. In the age group between 40 and 64, there were 25.2 natural teeth remaining, 91.4% natural teeth retention rate, 23% chewing discomfort rate, 34.7% oral examination rate, 38.7% periodontal disease prevalence, 6.46 the number of caries experience teeth, 21.4% interdental brush usage rate.
The auther had studied on the debri index, calculus index and simplified oral hygiene index, which was made according to the oral examination criteria recommened by WHO in 1971. The examined persons were 14,825 persons who lived in large cities and rural area. The obtained results were as follows: 1. the simplified oral hygiene index were 1.81 in male and 1.54 in female who lived I large cities. In rural area, the simplified oral hygiene index were 2.23 in male and 1.92 in female. 2. the debri index, calculus index and oral hygiene index were lower in upper jaw than in lower jaw. 3. According to the aging, debri, index, calculus index and simplified oral hygiene index score wee increased. 4. Dental health education what had done was not so effective on oral hygiene.

Early colonization of periodontal pathogens has been related as a risk indicator for the subsequent development of periodontal disease. Such colonization can be easily detected with mediums like saliva and plaque. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of the bacteria associated with periodontal disease in saliva and plaque in healthy children and adolescents. The experiment was conducted using 90 samples from subjects consisting of thirty elementary school students, thirty high school students and thirty adults. PCR was used to detect the prevalence and distribution of five periodontal pathogens in the collected saliva and plaque. The detected periodontal pathogens are as follows: A. actinomycetemcomitans, P. gingivalis, T. forsythia, F. nucleatum and P. intermedia. Periodontal pathogens were prevailed in a higher number of adolescents than the number of children. A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. intermedia were detected the most in the adolescents group. T. forsythia and F. nucleatum were detected the most in the children group. The overall result showed that saliva is more a useful medium than supragingival plaque. The detection of high risk periodontal pathogens in children and adolescents without clinical signs of periodontal disease can emphasize the importance of the early diagnosis and preventive approach.

A number of techniques may be employed to reduce the discomfort of syringe or needle for dental care. The use of topical anesthesia is one such method. Topical anesthetics are applied to alleviate pain during many clinical procedures, such as injection of local infiltration anesthetics, primary tooth extraction, X-ray taking of sensitive patients, reducing gag reflex prior to impression taking. In children, placement of a rubber dam clamp, however, may cause significant discomfort for purpose of pit and fissure sealant and preventive resin restoration(PRR). A topical anesthetic would be beneficial to aid in rubber dam placement for this purpose. It has been suggested that all intra-oral topical anesthetics are equally effective on reflected mucosa, however EMLA(an acronym for eutectic mixture of local anesthetics), which was developed in the 1980s and produces surface anesthesia of skin, has been shown to be more effective than conventional topical anesthetics when used on attached gingivae. This report is topical anesthesized 4 case by EMLA cream, who showed better effect in reducing the pain of infiltration anesthesia, extraction of deciduous teeth, rubber dam clamp placement and reducing the pain of preformed crown adaptation.

In this case, we would like to discuss about the single rooted deciduous mandibular first molar. The deciduous mandibular molar of a five years old boy was shown to have a single root, bilaterally. Ordinarily, the maxilary molars have three roots and the mandibular molars have two roots. However, when the hertwig's epithelial root sheath do not invaginate properly during tooth development, root fusion can occur from the absence of root separation. Molars with fused roots not only have unfavorable crown to root ratio, but also according to many reports, have higher probability of having multiple congenitally missing teeth or dens invaginatus in the maxillary incisors, consequently requiring preventive dental treatment In addition, disorders such as ectodermal dysplasia, syndactyly, clinodactyly, bluish sclera can also be related to this condition. Root fusion is known to be of autosomal recessive inheritance. Up to date, single rooted molars have been reported several times in permanent dentitions but hardly in deciduous dentition, which is the motive for this paper.
This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of an experimental bleaching strip (Medison dental whitening strip. Samsung medical Co., Anyang, Korea) containing 2.9% hydrogen peroxide. Twenty-three volunteers used the bleaching strips for one and a half hour daily for 2 weeks. As control group. the same strips in which hydrogen peroxide was not included were used by 24 volunteers with the same protocol. The shade change (${\Delta}E^{*}$, color difference) of twelve anterior teeth was measured using Shade Vision (X-Rite Inc., S.W. Grandville, MI, USA). Chroma Meter (Minolta Co., Ltd. Osaka. Japan) and Vitapan classical shade guide (Vita Zahnfabrik, Germany). The shade change of overall teeth in the experimental group was significantly greater than that in the control group (p < 0.05) and was easily perceivable. The change resulted from the increase of lightness (CIE $L^{*}$ value) and the decrease of redness (CIE $a^{*}$ value) and yellowness (CIE $b^{*}$ value). The shade change of individual tooth was greatest in canine. and smallest in central incisor. The safety of the bleaching strip was also confirmed.
