The aim of this study is to assess the seismic performance of hollow reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete bridge columns, and to provide data for developing improved seismic design criteria. By using a sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program, the accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process can be enhanced. A computer program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), is used to analyze reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures. Tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and models of reinforcing and prestressing steel were used to account for the material nonlinearity of reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete. The smeared crack approach was incorporated. The proposed numerical method for the seismic performance assessment of hollow reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete bridge columns is verified by comparing it with the reliable experimental results. Additionally, the studies and discussions presented in this investigation provide an insight into the key behavioral aspects of hollow reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete bridge columns.

A numerical procedure is developed to analyze the time-dependent behavior of prestressed concrete bridges constructed by the segmental cantilever method. The developed computer program accounts for the time-dependent properties of prestressed concrete materials due to the varing modulus of elasticity, creep and shrinkage of concrete and the stress relaxation of prestressing steel. It also accounts for the stiffness increase due to the presence of the steel reinforcements and the effects of the shear deformation of the prestressed concrete bridge girders. The program is applied to a multi-span continuous segmental prestressed concrete bridge to demonstrate its capabilities.
The depth of superstructure is the summation of the height of girders and the thickness of the deck floor. In this study, it is aim to determine the maximum span length of girders and minimum depth of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I-girder bridge. For this purpose the superstructure of the bridge with the width of 10m and the thickness of the deck floor of 0.175m, which the girders length was changed by two meter increments between 15m and 35m, was taken into account. Twelve different girders with heights of 60, 75, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170 and 180 cm, which are frequently used in Turkey, were chosen as girder type. The analyses of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I girder bridge was conducted with I-CAD software. In the analyses AASHTO LRFD (2012) conditions were taken into account a great extent. The dead loads of the structural and non-structural elements forming the bridge superstructure, prestressing force, standard truck load, equivalent lane load and pedestrian load were taken into consideration. HL93, design truck of AASHTO and also H30S24 design truck of Turkish Code were selected as vehicular live load. The allowable concrete stress limit, the number of prestressed strands, the number of debonded strands and the deflection parameters obtained from analyses were compared with the limit values found in AASHTO LRFD (2012) to determine the suitability of the girders. At the end of the study maximum span length of girders and equation using for calculation for minimum depth of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I-girder bridge were proposed.
The objective is to compare with economic evaluation and to analysis the LCC for prestressed concrete used on rail bridge. A new style concrete bridge is difficult to estimate a history for maintenance cost reliably. For the reason, we introduce a analogical interpretation by similar bridge style in order to estimate a appropriate maintenance profile. The proposed method is usefully supplied to estimating the LCC for bridge which is difficult to determine the maintenance cost.
The vibration response of the bridges under the moving vehicular load is of importance for engineers to estimate the serviceability of existing bridges and to design new bridges. This paper deals with the three dimensional vibration analysis of prestressed concrete bridges under moving vehicles. The prestressed bridges are modeled by four-node isoparametric flat shell elements with the transverse shearing deformation taken into account. The usual five degrees-of-freedom (DOFs) per node of the element are appended with a drilling DOF to accommodate the transformation of the local stiffness and mass matrices to the global coordinates. The vehicle is modeled as a single or two-DOF system. A single-span prestressed Tee beam and two-span prestressed box-girder bridge are studied as the two numerical examples. The effects of prestress forces on the natural frequencies and dynamic responses of the bridges are investigated.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the inelastic behavior of precast segmental prestressed concrete bridge piers. A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. An unbonded tendon element based on the finite element method, that can represent the interaction between tendon and concrete of prestressed concrete member, is used. A joint element is newly developed to predict the inelastic behaviors of segmental joints. The proposed numerical method for the inelastic behavior of precast segmental prestressed concrete bridge piers is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

This study presents the results of parametric studies of the P-M interaction diagram of hollow prestressed concrete bridge columns. Among the numerous parameters, this study concentrates on concrete compressive strength, prestressing steel reinforcement ratio, effective prestress, the Ds/Do ratio, and the Di/Do ratio. The strength and ductility of hollow prestressed concrete bridge columns were evaluated through quasistatic tests. The P-M interaction diagrams from the codes were different from that of the results, which were in good agreement with AASHTO-LRFD. Nondimensionalized P-M interaction diagrams were developed to predict the design resistance of hollow prestressed concrete bridge columns.

Prestress force identification (PFI) is crucial to maintain the safety of prestressed concrete bridges. A synergic identification method has been proposed recently by the authors that can determine the prestress force (PF) and the excitation force simultaneously in prestressed concrete beams with good accuracy. In this paper, the ability of this method in the application with prestressed concrete box-girder bridges is demonstrated. A reasonable assumption is made to capture the similarity of the dynamic behavior of the prestressed concrete box-girder bridge and a beam under a certain loading scenario, and the feasibility of this method for application in a prestressed box-girder bridge is affirmed. A comprehensive laboratory test program is conducted, and the effects of PF, excitation, measuring time and uncertainties are studied. Results show that the proposed method can predict the PF and the excitation force in a prestressed concrete box-girder accurately and has a great robustness against uncertainties.

This research covers the resting of precast/prestressed concrete I-Girder bridge. The research was designed to examine processes for improving the condition evaluation and rating of prestressed concrete bridge. To establish procedures that allow for the full utilization of prestressed concrete bridge capacity, a 28-year old sample was loaded to failure in site. The bridge was constructed with 12 spans, and girders of each span were simply supported. At each loading stage, the deflections, reinforcement strains, prestressing wire strains and concrete strains were examined. Failure behavior was analyzed, and failure load was also evaluated. The test results wee compared to the analytical results from the non-linear finite element analysis.
