  • This study is the evaluation of rating of railway prestressed concrete beam bridges by prediction of residual effective prestress force. Therefore, developed prediction method is based on the center camber of prestressed concrete beam, structural design report of various PSC beams, construction reference materials of PSC beams. Both rating evaluation and residual effective prestress force by developed method is compared with evaluation by structural design. This comparison results shows that this developed method is very effective method. Therefore evaluation of rating by prediction of residual effective prestress force will be used for evaluation of the rating of railway PSC beam bridges.

  • Nowadays, many of PSC bridges has constructed because high performance and long span bridge is required. Therefore, it is required that the evaluation of PSC bridges which retain various structure performance. In this study, nonlinear FEM analysis was performed with two parameter, concrete compressive strength and effective prestress force which is dominant factor for evaluating structural behavior of PSC bridge. Concrete compressive strength was adapted between 30Mpa and 100Mpa and effective prestress force was used the value which is considered effective rate for time-dependant effect. In the result of this study, it was showed that concrete compressive strength and effective prestress force is important factor for evaluating structural behavior of PSC bridge.

  • The analysis of the progressive collapse resistance of structures is a well-known issue among structural engineers. Large-span reticulated dome structures are commonly utilized in large public buildings, necessitating research into their progressive collapse resistance to assure user safety. The most significant part of improving the structural resilience of reticulated domes is to evaluate their key elements. Based on a stiffness-based evaluation approach, this work offers a calculating procedure for element importance coefficient. For both original and damaged structures, evaluations are carried out using the global stiffness matrix and the determinant. The Kiewitt, Schwedler, and Sunflower reticulated domes are investigated to explore the distribution characteristic of element importance coefficients in the single-layer dome structures. Moreover, the influences of the load levels, load distributions, geometric parameters and topological features are also discussed. The results can be regarded as the initial concept design reference for single-layer reticulated domes.

  • The bonded tendon was adopted to the reactor containment building of some operating nuclear power plants in Korea and the assessment of the prestress force on the bonded tendon is very important for the evaluation of the structural integrity. The prestress force of the bonded tendon at real reactor containment building, was evaluated using the SI technique and impact signal analysis technique which were developed to improve the existing indirect assessmment technique. For these techniques, the strain of the reactor containment building and the stress wave velocity of the bonded tendon were measured. Both SI technique and impact signal analysis technique give the highly reliable results comparison with the existing theoretical approach. Therefore, it is confirmed that the developed techniques are very useful for the evaluation of the prestress force on the bonded tendon.

  • The bonded tendon was adopted to the reactor building of some operating nuclear power plants in Korea and the assessment of the effective prestress force on the bonded tendon is being issued as an important pending problem for continuous operation beyond their design life. The sensitivity analysis of various parameters was carried out to evaluate the effective prestress force using the system identification technique and the optimal parameters were determined for SI technique in this study. The 1/5 scaled post-tensioned concrete beams with the bonded tendon type were manufactured and in order to investigate the relationship of the natural frequency and the displacement to the effective prestress force, impact test, SIMO sine sweep test and bending test using the optical fiber sensor and the compact displacement transducer were carried out. As a result of tests, both the natural frequency and the displacement show the good relationship with the effective prestress force and both parameters are available for the SI technique to estimate the effective prestress force.

  • This paper presents the analytical method for the long-term behavior of simply supported composite beams with precast decks prestressed in the longitudinal direction. The objectives of time-dependent analysis are to estimate losses of prestress on the concrete slab and long-term deflection due to creep and shrinkage of concrete, relaxation of prestressing steel. Also, the time-dependent analysis was carried out using the presented analytical method to evaluate the effects of several parameters on the long-term behavior of composite bridge with precast deck, including geometrical shapes of composite beams, compressive strength of concrete and magnitude of initial prestress. The results of the analysis indicated that, in the effects of geometrical shapes of composite beams, the main parameters affecting the losses of prestress and the long-term deflection were the cross sectional area and the moment of inertia of steel beam, respectively. Finally, the determination method for the required initial prestress was proposed by evaluation of the loss characteristics due to shrinkage and creep of concrete.

  • The current study is a part of series of research about the evaluation method of the unbonded tendon stress in prestressed concrete member at flexural failure. As the experimental study, a test program with 14 beams and slabs was planed to identify the contribution of each important variable. The variables are (1) the effective prestress, (2) the concrete strength, (3) the amount of tendons (4) the amount of bonded reinforcements, (5) the loading type, (6) the span/depth ratio. It was found that the tendon stress increment decreases as the effective prestress increases. Also, the contributions of concrete strength, amount of tendons, bonded reinforcements, and loading type were observed to affect on tendon stresses. However, the tendon stress increments were minimal at high values of span/depth in contrast with the ACI Code.

  • The precast concrete deck is one of suitable solutions for replacement and new construction in urban area. However, the precast concrete deck could be a weak point of the steel plate girder bridges structurally due to the connections between precast panels in the longitudinal direction. Thereafter, it is necessary for improvement of durability and load carrying capacity to introduce the prestress force in the longitudinal direction Some cracks of connections at the precast concrete deck may be occurred due to live loads, the difference of temperature and long-term effects. The shrinkage and creep of concrete may significantly affect long-term behaviors which occur tensile stresses at the precast concrete deck of steel plate girder bridges. In this study, the time-dependant analysis program has been developed to determine the initial prestress force in the longitudinal direction considering loss of stress at the precast concrete deck. Also it has been estimated the initial prestress force by construction stages and shapes of girder.

  • The rapidly decreasing natural resources and the global variation of the climate push us to find intelligent and efficient structural systems to provide more people with fewer resources. This paper proposed a kinematic cable-strut system to realize sustainable structures in responding to changing environmental conditions. At first, the concept of the kinematic system based on crystal-cell pyramid (CP) cable-strut unit was given. Then the deployment of the structure was studied experimentally. After that, the static behaviors in the fully deployed state under the symmetric and asymmetric load cases were investigated. Moreover, the effects of thermal loading and the initial prestress distribution were also discussed. Comparative studies between the proposed structure and other deployable cable-strut system under three times of design load cases were carried out. Finally, the robustness of the system was studied by removal of one passive cable at one time.
