  • The experimental results of the 2 stage Gifford-McMahon(GM) type pulse tube refrigerator (PTR) or cryopump are presented in this paper. The objectives of his study are to develop design technology of the integral type 2 stage PTR which rotary valve is directly connected to he hot end of the regenerator and acquire its improved performance. Design of the 2 stage PTR is conducted by FZKPTR(Forschungs Zentrum Karlsruhe Pulse Tube Refrigerator) program for the design of pulse tube refrigerators. The fabricated PTR has U-type configuration and incorporates orifice valve, double-inlet valve and reservoir as phase control mechanism. Rotary valve is used to make pulsating pressure and is directly connected to inlet of $1^{st}$ stage regenerator. From experiments, cooling performance map and pressure waveform at each point were measured for different operating frequencies. Experimental results show the best cooling performance with 2 Hz operation in spite of small pressure amplitude. The lowest temperatures of the 2 stage PTR were 16.9 K at the second stage and 58.0 K at the first stage. The cooling capacities achieved were 14.4 W at 79 K, the first stage and 3.6 W at 29 K, the second stage.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the reflection distance following to the pulsing pressure, total air supplying, filter bag size using numercial analysis techniques and use it as an efficient operation condition and economic data for off-line type pulse air jet bag filter. In this research, filtration area 6 m2 condition, calculate filter resistance coefficient for simulation through the main experiments using coke dust. Ansys fluent V19.0 apply to CFD simulation, and analysis pulsing characteristics about pulsing pressure, filtration velocity and nozzle diameter. The maximum reflecting distance of off-line type pulse air jet bag filter is 1,000 mm regardless of total air supplying at over the 42 L/m2 conditions, that indicates off-line type can extend filter bag length 1,000 mm than on-line type. In order to effective primary and secondary pulsing of off-line type pulse air jet bag filter, over the 5 bar of pulsing pressure and over the 42 L/m2 of total air supplying are needed.

  • This paper describes experimental study and performance improvement of 2 stage Gifford-McMahon (G-M) type pulse tube cryocooler for cryopump. The objective of this study is to improve the efficiency of 2 stage pulse tube cryocooler for substituting 2 stage G-M cryocooler used in cryopump. The target cooling capacities are 5 W at 20 K and 35 W at 80 K for the $1^{st}$ and the $2^{nd}$ stage, respectively. These values are good cooling capacities for vacuum level in medium size ICP 200 cryopump. Design of the 2 stage pulse tube cryocooler is conducted by FZKPTR(Forschungs Zentrum Karlsruhe Pulse Tube Refrigerator) program. In order to improve the performance of 2 stage pulse tube cryocooler, U-type pulse tube cryocooler is fabricated and connecting tubes are minimized for reducing dead volumes and pressure losses. Also, to get larger capacities, orifice valves and double inlet valves are optimized and the compressor of 6 kW is used. On the latest unit, the lowest temperatures of 2 stage pulse tube cryocooler are 42 K ($1^{st}$ stage) and 8.3 K ($2^{nd}$ stage) and the cooling capacities are 40 W at 82.9 K ($1^{st}$ stage) and 10 W at 20.5 K ($2^{nd}$ stage) with 6.0 kW of compressor input power. This pulse tube cryocooler is suited for commercial medium size cryopump. In performance test of cryopump with 2 stage pulse tube cryocooler, pumping speed for gaseous nitrogen is 4,300 L/s and the ultimate vacuum pressure is $7.5{\times}10^{-10}$ mbar.

  • Shunt valves used to treat patients with hydrocephalus were tested to investigate influence of intracranial pressure pulsation on their flow control characteristics. Five commercial shunt valves were tested in the flow loop that simulates pulsed flow under pressure pulsation. As 20cc/hr of flow rate was adjusted at a constant pressure, application of $40mmH_2O$ of pressure pulse increased the flow rate by $67.9\%.$ As a 90cm length catheter was connected to the valve outlet, increase in the flow rate was substantially reduced to $17.5\%.$ As the flow rate was adjusted to 40cc/hr at a constant pressure, increase in the flow rate was $51.1\%$ with the same pressure pulsation of $40mmH_2O$. The results indicated that pressure-flow control characteristics of shunt valves implanted above human brain ventricle is quite different from those obtained by syringe pump test at constant pressures right after manufacture. The influence of pressure pulsation was observed to be more significant at low flow rate and the flexibility of the outlet silicone catheter was estimated to significantly reduce flow increase due to pressure pulsation.

  • A damped sinusoidal electromagnetic pulse generator was designed, fabricated and tested. The pulse generator consisted of an oscillator(a spark gap switch and an initially charged low impedance line) and a high impedance antenna. This generator was capable of producing damped sinusoidal pulses at closure of the spark gap switch. A Marx generator was employed to supply the Pulse generator with high voltage pulses. While the pulse generator was provided with the high voltage pulses of 200kV from the Marx generator, its output power was maximized by controlling the pressure of the gas contained in the spark gap switch. The output power of the damped sinusoidal electromagnetic pulse oscillator was 1.3GW and the amplitude of electric field radiated from the pulse generator was 4kV/m at the range of 25m.

  • We show that the usage of the cyclic pressure function in the freeze drying is more effective than the drying rate of the constant pressure process. The ultimate object of this process is to reduce energy costs by shortening the drying time. In this work, the concept of cyclic pressure function to decrease the drying time and the effects of the following factors on drying rate are considered ; pulse type, size in amplitude of pressure, size of intermediate time. Temperature for drying has always been maintained constantly at $20^{\circ}C$ and the pulse type could have found to give useful results than the constant pressure by altering chamber pressure from low pressure to high pressure Also, when the amplitude of the pulse is 0.4 torr and the intermediate time is six hour the drying rate was increased considerably.

  • In this study, it is the purpose to develope a cheap and compact repetitively pulsed $CO_2$ laser with pulse repetition rate range of 180 Hz. We used a SCR switched power supply as a high voltage pulsed supply, which is cheap and simple comparing to others. PIC one-chip microprocessor was used for precise control of a laser power supply on the control part. And the laser cavity was fabricated as an axial and water cooled type. The laser performance characteristics as various parameters, such as pulse repetition rate and gas pressure have been investigated. The experiment was done under the condition of total pressure of $CO_2, N_2$ and He from 4 Torr to 16 Torr and pulse repetition rate from 4 Hz to 180 Hz. As a result, the maximum average output was about 19.6W at the total pressure of 12 Torr and the pulse repetition rate of 180Hz.

  • The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influences of epinephrine and pain on the changes of blood pressure and pulse rates in mandibular 3rd molar extraction. A total of 80 patients(aged between 10 and 30) without systemically compromised conditions were selected and divided into two groups(I, II). 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine was administered in group I (male 20, female 20), and 2% lidocaine without epinephrine was administered in group II (male 20, female 20). Systolic blood pressure and pulse rates were checked by a digital monitor during the pre-local anesthesia state(stage 1), 5 minute later in the post-local anesthesia state(stage 2), the extraction state(during odontectomy, stage 3), and during the post-suture state(stage 4). The measurement of pain perceived by patients was made using a three-point visual analog scale. The results suggest that local anesthetic with epinephrine is better at decreasing pain preventing the severe elevation of systolic blood pressure than local anesthetic without epinephrine. However, these results should be confirmed by additional studies on cardiac patients.

  • The SRT(stability rating test) technique, which is indispensable for the development of a LRE(liquid rocket engine), essentially requires a development of a combustion test sequence as well as artificial perturbation devices. For the development of an indigenous SRT technique, several combustion tests of sub-scale LRE were performed to search a proper combustion test sequence. At first, a pressure-wave inducing device which is used for adapting pulse gun was designed and a cooling gas supply system for the pressure-wave inducing device was set up to prevent a malfunction of pulse gun. Through the several combustion tests which included cooling procedure of a pressure-wave inducing device, a proper combustion test sequence was found out. It did not make any significant disturbance at normal combustion process. Finally, an indigenous SRT technique has been developed successfully.

  • Purpose: We investigated the effects of music on pain, blood pressure, and pulse in patients with chronic back pain. We tried to find some change of satisfaction of treatment and a sense. Method: We recruited total 30 patients with chronic back pain, who had pain from lumbago for more than six months. Subjects received electrotherapy and electrotherapy with music one at a time during me test, and subjects received one in the morning and the other one in the afternoon. We compared the test results between the electrotherapy and electrotherapy with music. Visual Analogue Scale was used to check the effect on pain. Blood pressure and pulse were checked, too. The gathered informatio was analyzed by t-test, independent sample t-test, and chi-square test. Results: There was statistically not significant difference between electrotherapy and electrotherapy with the music in VAS(Visual Analogue Scale)(p>0.05). There were statistically some significant differences between two groups in systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and the pulse(p<0.05). Subject group showed statistically higher scores of satisfaction(p<0.05). There was significant difference between two groups(p<0.05) in the tingling and vibration sense. Conclusion: we found that the lumbago patients who are treated by electrotherapy with the music did not have additional difference in relief of pain, but electrotherapy with music can get better effects on their blood pressure, the pulse, satisfaction, and tingling-vibration sense. This means that the patients receive their treatment comfortably with rest. Therefore, We consider that it is desirable to play music to lumbago patients to offer the better treatment service to the patients.
