Role of Information Sharing on the Impact of Foreign Banks' Penetration on Banking Competition

  • Globalization has led to an increase in foreign banks' penetration. It is argued that the presence of foreign banks may affect the banking sector of the host countries in several ways including their competition level. It is mentioned that the presence of the foreign banks could heightened the level of competition in the banking sector. Nonetheless, the impact of the foreign banks on competition could be influenced by the degree of information sharing in the banking industry. This study investigates the role of information sharing in moderating the impact of foreign bank penetration on host banking sector competition in selected developing countries. We employ panel data samples of 54 developing countries during the period from 1998 to 2016. The estimation is carried out using the two-step system of the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) regression technique. This technique is adopted due to its robustness to all forms of endogeneity. The findings of this study show that the presence of information sharing could affect the relationship between foreign banks' penetration and competition. They suggest that improvement in information sharing by a host country may help foreign banks to improve monitoring and reduce the moral hazard and adverse selection problem.

The Effect of SNS Advertisement Characteristics on Advertisement Attitude and WOM through Users' Psychological Factors (SNS 광고특성이 이용자의 심리적 요인을 통해 광고태도 및 구전의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose As the number of SNS users increases, the importance of SNS advertisement is also increasing. Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of factors on effectiveness of SNS advertising, and expand research on users' attitude and behavior intention toward SNS advertising. Design/methodology/approach This study was designed to examine the structural relationships among SNS service attribute, users' cognitive characters, psychological factors, users' attitude and behavior intention toward SNS advertising. Concretely, SNS service attribute was presented as online interactivity, and users' cognitive characters were presented as perceived relevance and perceived intrusiveness. In addition, psychological factors were presented as presence experience and message credibility, users' attitude toward SNS advertising was presented as advertisement attitude and users' behavior intention was presented as WOM. Findings The results showed that online interactivity has a positive effect on presence experience and message credibility, but perceived intrusiveness has a negative effect on presence experience and message credibility. Perceived relevance has a positive effect on presence experience, but does not have significant effect on message credibility. Presence experience and message credibility have positive effects on advertisement attitude and WOM, and advertisement attitude also has a positive effect on WOM. Based on the results from this study, academic and practical implications can be drawn. First, the study extended the scope of research about SNS advertising through focusing on SNS service attribute and SNS users' cognitive characters and identified the relationship between presence experience, message credibility, advertisement attitude and WOM. Second, the results of this research can provide practical guidelines to develop effective advertising strategies for companies which promoting SNS as a marketing tool.

Influences of the User's Experienced Space Perception on the Flow at Digital Interactive Contents (디지털 상호작용 콘텐츠에서 체험적 공간감이 몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • This study deals with development of an evaluating tool for flow experience and presence to evaluate interactive digital contents. The tool is able to measure the grade of flow and presence by surveying with their factors which are known to affect flow experience and presence. One of reasons for reducing flow experience and presence in 3D digital contents is that the experience in the virtual world is different from user's prerequisite learning in the real life. The recent interactive contents using physical movement of users as an input is possible to provide unsafe situation to users due to the different experience. The suggested flow measurement tool is able to evaluate presence and flow experience of an interactive 3D contents as well as flow and presence factors are possible to use as a general guideline for all stages of producing interactive 3D digital contents.

A Deep Learning Model for Judging Presence or Absence of Lesions in the Chest X-ray Images (흉부 디지털 영상의 병변 유무 판단을 위한 딥러닝 모델)

  • There are dozens of different types of lesions that can be diagnosed through chest X-ray images, including Atelectasis, Cardiomegaly, Mass, Pneumothorax, and Effusion. Computed tomography(CT) test is generally necessary to determine the exact diagnosis and location and size of thoracic lesions, however computed tomography has disadvantages such as expensive cost and a lot of radiation exposure. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a deep learning algorithm for judging the presence or absence of lesions in chest X-ray images as the primary screening tool for the diagnosis of thoracic lesions. The proposed algorithm was designed by comparing various configuration methods to optimize the judgment of presence of lesions from chest X-ray. As a result, the evaluation rate of lesion presence of the proposed algorithm is about 1% better than the existing algorithm.

A Software Framework Design for Providing Presence Information of SMS Users to RCS-e App (RCS-e 앱 사용 시 SMS 사용자 프레즌스 정보 제공을 위한 소프트웨어 프레임워크 설계)

  • If RCS-e subscribers and SMS subscribers want to exchange instant messages between each other, RCS-e app should know the presence information of the SMS subscribers. However, a RCS-e specification does not have the way to identify the information. This paper propose a software framework that makes RCS-e app can identify the information without having to modify RCS-e app. It describes the call flows between network equipments to manage the information. Also, it defines RCS-e service tags and service tuple for SMS subscribers. Performance evaluation proves that the proposed framework does not add loads to the existing network.

Integrated Media Platform-based Virtual Office Hours Implementation for Online Teaching in Post-COVID-19 Pandemic Era

  • In post-COVID-19 pandemic era, students' learning effects and experience may sharply decrease when teaching is transferred from offline to online. Several tools suitable for online teaching have been developed to guarantee and promote students' learning effects. However, they cannot fully consider teacher-student interaction in online teaching. To figure out this issue, this paper proposes integrated media platform-based virtual office hours implementation for online teaching. Specifically, an integrated media platform (IMP) is first constructed. Then, virtual office hours (VOH) is implemented based on the IMP, aiming at increasing student-teacher interactions. For evaluating the effectiveness of this scheme, 140 undergraduate students using IMP are divided into one control group and three experimental groups that respectively contain text, voice and video modes. The experiment results indicate that applying VOH in the IMP can improve students' online presence and test scores. Furthermore, students' participating modes during VOH implementation can largely affect their degree of presence, which can be well classified by using principal component analysis. The implication of this work is that IMP-based VOH is an effective and sustainable tool to be continuously implemented even when the COVID-19 pandemic period ends.

Sensor array optimization techniques for exhaled breath analysis to discriminate diabetics using an electronic nose

  • Disease discrimination using an electronic nose is achieved by measuring the presence of a specific gas contained in the exhaled breath of patients. Many studies have reported the presence of acetone in the breath of diabetic patients. These studies suggest that acetone can be used as a biomarker of diabetes, enabling diagnoses to be made by measuring acetone levels in exhaled breath. In this study, we perform a chemical sensor array optimization to improve the performance of an electronic nose system using Wilks' lambda, sensor selection based on a principal component (B4), and a stepwise elimination (SE) technique to detect the presence of acetone gas in human breath. By applying five different temperatures to four sensors fabricated from different synthetic materials, a total of 20 sensing combinations are created, and three sensing combinations are selected for the sensor array using optimization techniques. The measurements and analyses of the exhaled breath using the electronic nose system together with the optimized sensor array show that diabetic patients and control groups can be easily differentiated. The results are confirmed using principal component analysis (PCA).

  • Combining robot and network gives us many advantages like lightweight hardware specification of robot, a various robot service, simple upgrade of robot, easy management and so on. Among these advantages, Presence service and openAPI are most important. Presence is simple but powerful service. It makes user to know the status information of robot and enables user to control robot from a remote place. OpenAPI which is also a feature of WEB2.0 enables $3^{rd}$ parties to make a various mashup service easily and rapidly. Finally presence and openAPI can help URC service to be ubiquitous and successful.

  • We shall propose several estimators and confidence intervals for the scale parameter in a uniform distribution with the presence of a generalized uniform outlier and obtain mean squared errors(MSE) for their proposed estimators. And we shall compare numerical MSE's for the proposed several estimators of the scale parameter. Also we shall compare numerically expected lengths of confidence intervals of the scale parameter in a uniform distribution with the presence of a generalized uniform outlier.

  • This study examined factors of presence using the experimental method. The design of this study was to analyze presence through the dimensions of character agents(text, voice, 2D, 3D, reality character dimension and gender) for e-learning platforms that used new technology-based content. There were 232 experimental participants in the study. This study was designed to measure their cognitive awareness of presence by agent dimensions in the first level to measure the presence level in the types of users. The results showed that there were significant correlation between types of users and presence. However there were no statistically significant results on dimensions. In addition, there were significant differences on character gender, voice or non-voice, text or non-text and character dimensions.
