An experimental study was conducted to measure laminar burning velocity and Markstein length of SNG fuel with 3% of hydrogen contents from spherical propagating flames at normal and elevated initial pressure. These results were compared with numerical calculations by Premix code with GRI-mech 3.0, USC II and UC San Diego to provide suitable mechanism for SNG fuel. As a result of this work, it was found that the burning velocities and Markstein lengths of SNG fuel decrease with increase of initial pressure regardless of equivalence ratio. In addition, numerical calculations with GRI-mech 3.0 were coincided with experimental results.
In this study, concrete durability was reviewed before CGS, a by-product generated from IGCC, was used as a fine aggregate for concrete. The characteristics of concrete and effect on carbonization according to the type of pre-mixed cement and the CGS substitution rate were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the depth of carbonation according to the pre-mixed cement types increased by up to 52%, and the carbonation resistance tended to be similar overall when CGS was used as a fine aggregate.
In this study, the effects of replacing inorganic copper, zinc and manganese with different levels of organic complexes of the same trace minerals on the lipid peroxidation and antioxidant defense systems in broilers were investigated. Two-hundred Ross-308 one-day-old broiler chickens were placed on controlled diets until 42 d of age. The experimental animals were divided into four groups comprising three experimental groups and one control group, each consisting of 50 chickens. All groups were also divided into five subgroups each containing 10 broiler chicks. The mineral content of the control group diet was controlled using a standard inorganic mineral premix with supplement levels and sources of trace minerals typical of commercial broiler diets according to the National Research Council (NRC) (containing 8 mg Cu as $CuSO_4$, 40 mg Zn as $ZnSO_4$, and 60 mg Mn as MnO, per kg). In the experimental diets, mineral premix was also comprised of inorganic formulations, except for those of Cu, Zn and Mn. Organically-complexed Cu, Zn, and Mn were separately added to the basal diet at 1/3 (L1), 2/3 (L2) and 3/3 (L3) levels with respect to the NRC recommendation, as Bioplex $Cu^{TM}$, Bioplex $Zn^{TM}$, Bioplex $Mn^{TM}$. At the end of the trial, the plasma Zn level significantly increased when the plasma Cu level significantly decreased (p<0.05) in chickens fed at 2/3 and 3/3 levels of organically complexed minerals. The liver trace mineral concentrations were significantly higher in chickens fed inorganic trace minerals in comparison to those fed organically-complexed minerals. The plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) level of experimental chickens was decreased in groups receiving levels of organic Cu, Zn and Mn in comparison to those fed inorganic forms (p<0.01). The erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was higher in all groups receiving the organic mineral supplements in comparison to those fed inorganic forms (p<0.01). No differences were observed on either the erythrocyte catalase (CAT) activity or the plasma ceruloplasmin (Cp) levels, and the liver MDA levels and liver CAT and SOD activities in any of the groups that received the organic supplements of Cu, Zn, and Mn. It was concluded that supplementation of lower levels of organically-complexed copper, zinc, and manganese instead of their inorganic forms in diets had no negative effects on the antioxidant defense system in broilers.
Two experiments were conducted to determine the digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) contents of corn gluten feed (CGF) for finishing pigs and to develop equations predicting the DE and ME content from the chemical composition of the CGF samples, as well as validate the accuracy of the prediction equations. In Exp. 1, ten CGF samples from seven provinces of China were collected and fed to 66 finishing barrows (Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire) with an initial body weight (BW) of $51.9{\pm}5.5$ kg. The pigs were assigned to 11 diets comprising one basal diet and 10 CGF test diets with six pigs fed each diet. The basal diet contained corn (76%), dehulled soybean meal (21%) and premix (3%). The ten test diets were formulated by substituting 25% of the corn and dehulled soybean meal with CGF and contained corn (57%), dehulled soybean meal (15.75%), CGF (24.25%) and premix (3%). In Exp. 2, two additional CGF sources were collected as validation samples to test the accuracy of the prediction equations. In this experiment, 18 barrows (Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire) with an initial BW of $61.1{\pm}4.0$ kg were randomly allotted to be fed either the basal diet or two CGF containing diets which had a similar composition as used in Exp. 1. The DE and ME of CGF ranged from 10.37 to 12.85 MJ/kg of dry matter (DM) and 9.53 to 12.49 MJ/kg of DM, respectively. Through stepwise regression analysis, several prediction equations of DE and ME were generated. The best fit equations were: DE, MJ/kg of DM = 18.30-0.13 neutral detergent fiber-0.22 ether extract, with $R^2$ = 0.95, residual standard deviation (RSD) = 0.21 and p<0.01; and ME, MJ/kg of DM = 12.82+0.11 Starch-0.26 acid detergent fiber, with $R^2$ = 0.94, RSD = 0.20 and p<0.01. These results indicate that the DE and ME content of CGF varied substantially but the DE and ME for finishing pigs can be accurately predicted from equations based on nutritional analysis.
Five type of formulated diet from agricultural by-products (ABP) were fed to four breedtype of cattle in feedlot. The ABP used are palm kernel cake (PKC), palm press fibre (PPF), palm oil mill effluent (POME), cocoa pod (COP), coffee pulp (COF) and pineapple waste (PAP). The formulated diets are PS (52% PKC, 15% PPF and 30% POME), PF (57% PKC, 20% PPF and 20% POME), PA (2% PKC and 55% PAP), CO (42% PKC and 55% COP) and CF (67% PKC and 30% COF) with 1% urea, 1% NaCl and 1% vitamins premix. The cattle breedtypes are Kedah-Kelantan (KK), Brahman-KK (BK), Hereford-KK (HK) and Sahiwal-Friesian (SF). The result showed that breedtype significantly affect all the carcass characteristic except dressing percentage. Each breedtype has it's specific carcass characteristics. HK cattle gave high marbling, BK has high % of carcass bone, KK has high % of carcass meat and low % of carcass fat (lean meat type) and SF has high % of carcass fat. Diet-type significantly affect the deposition of fat in the carcass. High moisture diets (PA and CO) produced significantly higher % carcass bone, the lowest % carcass fat and the highest % carcass meat (65.3%). PF, CF, PA and CO diets produced 63.4%, 59.9%, 55.3% and 54.1% carcass meat respectively.
This paper describes experimental results on combustion characteristics with hydrogen contents of synthetic natural gas (SNG) in low swirl combustor. To investigate the effect of hydrogen contents for premixed SNG flame, stability map, CH chemiluminescence images, flame spectrum analysis and emission performances were measured. In the results, as the hydrogen content was increased, the lean flammable limit was expanded and the flame length was decreased. The hydrogen contents affected the flame liftoff height, and it has different tendency according to the equivalence ratio and flame shape. The change of height and length of flame according to hydrogen contents is caused by the fast burning velocity of hydrogen, which can be confirmed by GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism in PREMIX code. The intensity of $OH^*$, $CH^*$ and $C_2^*$ was confirmed by spectrum analysis of flame. As a result, the $CH^*$ intensity was not significantly different according to hydrogen content. The increase of hydrogen contents influenced positively CO and NOx emission performances.
This experiment was carried out to evaluated biological availability of calcium inthe sea mustard, sea tangle and sea lettuce in the rats. Standard diets were made to supply 0.3% of Ca from CaCO3. Consequently, levels each test ingredients to be added were sets by their Cacontents. The ingredients such as sea mustard, sea tangle and sea lettuce wereadded to basal diet at levels of 15.23%, 12.66% and 23.42% respectively. Ingredients of the basal diet were soybean protein, corn oil, alpha-cellulose, methionine, choline cholride and vitamin and mineral premix. Dextrose was added at level up to 100%. Amount of soybean protein was adjustable to make all the diets isontrogenous. Rats were fed ad libitum the diets for 13 days. The results were summarized as follow: 1. Serum calcium levels of the sea mustard group(15.23%) were higher than those of the other group, but rats fed sea lettuce diets appeared to have the lowest value. 2. Ca concentration in tibia were lower in rats fed with sea lettuce, rather than in those with standard diet. 3. Ca concentration in femur of the rats fed seaweeds did not show any significant difference among groups. 4. In the liver weight in groups fed on the all experimental groups were decreased more than that in the case of the standard diet groups.
In this paper, non-reacting and reacting flowfields were computed using a preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver. The preconditioning technique of Merkle et al. and TVD scheme or Chakravarthy and Osher was employed and the results obtained using developed code have a good agreement with the previous results and experimental data. The preconditioned Wavier-Stokes equation set with low Reynolds number $\kappa-\epsilon$ equation and species continuity equations, are discretized with strongly implicit manner and time integrated with LU-SSOR scheme. For the purpose of treating unsteady problem the duel-time stepping scheme was employed. For the validation of the code in incompressible flow regime, steady driven square cavity flow was considered and calculation result shows reasonably good agreement with the result of incompressible code. Shock wave/boundary layer interaction problem was considered to show the shock capturing performance of preconditioned-TVD scheme. To validate unsteady flow, acoustic oscillation problem was calculated, and supersonic premix flame of $H_2$-air reaction problem which is calculated with turbulence model, 9-species/18-reaction step reaction model, shows reasonable agreement with the previous results. As a result, the preconditioning method has an advantage to calculate incompressible and compressible flow through one code and preconditioned solver easily developed from standard compressible code with minor efforts. But additional computational time and computer memory is required due to preconditioning matrix.
Burned gas of methane-air mixtures with water vapor have been analysed to study the exhaust emission using gas-chromatography and computation. The computations were carried out for the gas analysis using premix code of Chemkin program to compare the experimental results. The quantity of water vapor contained were changed 5% and 10% of total mixtures, and equivalence ratio of mixtures between 0.6 and 1.2 were tested under the ambient temperature 323K and 373K. The results showed CO, $CO_2$ decreased and $H_2$ increased by increasing the water contents. The CO increased and $CO_2$ decreased by increasing the ambient temperature. The $CO_2$ shows the maximum product at equivalence ratio 1.0, in otherwise the $CH_4$ produced the minimum values in the same range. The results showed little difference between these two methods.
