Most of mechanical structures are combined of substructures such as beam and/or plates. There are few system with unibody structures but are not a few systems with united body structures. Generally the dynamic analysis of whole structures is perform ed under alternating load. However, the analysis of each joint area is more important than others for zero severity. This paper presents the results of analysis of concentration stress in bolt jointed structure with variable preload. At frist, a static vibration test was performed to find out a nominal stress of bolt joint ed plates from the relationship between natural frequency and nominal stress. Then a concentration stress was computed at contact point between bolt and plate in the structure. It is believed that the proposed method has promising implications for safer design with fatigue quality index of stress concentration factor and has merit for cost down and saving time at the beginning of vehicle development.
This paper focuses on the thermal deformation induced preload change in the tilting pad journal bearing, using a three-dimensional (3D) thermo-hydro-dynamic (THD) approach. Preload is considered as a critical factor in designing the tilting pad journal bearing. The initial preload measured under nil external load and nil thermal gradient is influenced by two factors, namely, the thermal deformation and elastic deformation. Thermal deformation is due to a temperature distribution in the bearing pads, whereas the elastic deformation is due to fluid forces acting on the pads. This study focuses on the changes induced in preload and film clearance due to thermal deformation. The generalized Reynolds equation is used to evaluate the force of the fluid and the 3D energy equation is used to calculate the temperature of the lubricant. The abovementioned equations are combined by establishing a relationship between viscosity and temperature. The heat transfer within the bearing pads, the lubricant, and the spinning journal is calculated using the heat flux boundary condition. The 3D Finite Element Method (FEM) is used in modeling the (1) heat conduction in the spinning journal and bearing pads, (2) thermal gradient induced thermal distortion of the spinning journal and pads, and (3) viscous shearing, and heat conduction and convection in a thin film. This evaluation method has an increased fidelity, and it can prove to be a cost-effective tool that can be used by designers to predict the dynamic behavior of a bearing.

A wheel loader is a type of construction machinery that is capable of performing a variety of tasks, and demands on its functional diversity and structural reliability are growing. A wheel bearing is one of the core components that determine the life of the loader; taper roller bearings are commonly used for this purpose. The lifetime of a bearing is typically calculated based only on its load and revolution speed. The initial preload of a taper roller bearing is a critical factor that directly affects its endurance life. In this study, the relations between the endurance life and preload characteristics including the amount of preload according to the weight, rotational speed, and thermal modification applied to tapered roller bearings are presented. When the temperature is $100^{\circ}C$, an excessive preload condition is expected compared with that at room temperature, and the durable life decreases by 20.3 %.
This study analyzed the characteristics of four kinds of bridge rubber pads and suggested how to determine the stiffness the pads. The stiffness of rubber pads can be estimated by a direct static test. In the procedure to estimate the stiffness of a pad, the dead load(preload) of a bridge and live load of a vehicle are considered. The polyurethane rubber pads have larger hardness than natural and chloroprene rubber pads and thus carry larger load bearing capacity. In addition, they showed higher stiffness with the same shape factor than the others and thus are more avaliable as for bridge bearings. Although natural and chloroprene rubber pads are elongated to large deformation in horizontal direction due to vertical loads, polyurethane rubber pads almost do not generate horizontal deformation due to vertical loads regardless to the thickness and hardness of the pads. Therefore, they do not need reinforced plate to restrict horizontal deformation.
Angular contact ball bearings are mainly used in the spindle, which requires high speed and stiffness. The heat generation is studied by experiments and simulations using a pair of angular contact ball bearings. The temperature variation of inner and outer races and the temperature increment distribution are measured by using thermocouples for the rotational speed, preload, viscosity of lubricant. The measured values from experiments are used to estimate the heat conduction rate. The method of oil-air lubrication is used for the experiment. The amount of conduction heat transfer to the test spindle and the convection heat transfer coefficients long the spindle are computed by using inverse method with temperature increment distribution. Total heat generation rate is estimated with the heat partition rate which is calculated from temperatures of inner and outer races. In addition, the empirical factor of oil-air lubrication method for Palmgren's heat generation model is suggested. The empirical friction coefficients, which are obtained from the experiments, depend on the preload condition, and can give us more accurate estimation of the heat generation in ball bearings.
Fastening systems have a significant role in the response of railway slab track systems. Although experimental tests indicate nonlinear behavior of fastening systems, they have been simulated as a linear spring-dashpot element in the available literature. In this paper, the influence of the nonlinear behavior of fastening systems on the slab track response was investigated. In this regard, a nonlinear model of vehicle/slab track interaction, including two commonly used fastening systems (i.e., RFFS and RWFS), was developed. The time history of excitation frequency of the fastening system was derived using the short time Fourier transform. The model was validated, using the results of a comprehensive field test carried out in this study. The frequency response of the track was studied to evaluate the effect of excitation frequency on the railway track response. The results obtained from the model were compared with those of the conventional linear model of vehicle/slab track interaction. The effects of vehicle speed, axle load, pad stiffness, fastening preload on the difference between the outputs obtained from the linear and nonlinear models were investigated through a parametric study. It was shown that the difference between the results obtained from linear and nonlinear models is up to 38 and 18 percent for RWFS and RFFS, respectively. Based on the outcomes obtained, a nonlinear to linear correction factor as a function of vehicle speed, vehicle axle load, pad stiffness and preload was derived. It was shown that consideration of the correction factor compensates the errors caused by the assumption of linear behavior for the fastening systems in the currently used vehicle track interaction models.

CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission) is one of the most promising candidates for the future automobile transmission because of its continuously variable gear ratio and reduced shift shock. It is also possible to operate the power source at its high efficiency region with CVT. The CVT system consists of thrust plate, driving pulley, belt, driven pulley, and preload spring of output shaft. In this paper, the dynamic modeling of a CVT system is completed to obtain the static performances of CVT system. A simulator is implemented on Matlab(Simulink), which can analyse the static performances of a CVT system. The methods for improving the total efficiency of a motorcycle system are also proposed based on the simulation results. In this study we increase the capacity factor of CVT up to the three times of default specification.
Statement of problem: Within the elastic limit of the screw, the greater the preload, the tighter and more secure the screw joint. However, additional tensile forces can incur plastic deformation of the abutment screw when functional loads are superimposed on preload stresses, and they can elicit the loosening or fracture of the abutment screw. Therefore, it is necessary to find the optimum preload that will maximize fatigue life and simultaneously offer a reasonable degree of protection against loosening. Another critical factor in addition to the applied torque which can affect the amount of preload is the joint connection type between implant and abutment. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of tightening torque on the implant-abutment screw joint stability. Material and methods: Respectively, three different amount of tightening torque (20, 30, and 40 Ncm) were applied to implant systems with three different joint connections, one external butt joint and two internal cones. The initial removal torque value and the postload (cyclic loading up to 100,000 cycles) removal torque value of the abutment screw were measured with digital torque gauge. Then rate of the initial and the postload removal torque loss were calculated for the comparison of the effect of tightening torques and joint connection types between implant and abutment on the joint stability. Results and conclusion: 1. Increase in tightening torque value resulted in significant increase in initial and postload removal torque value in all implant systems (P < .05). 2. Initial removal torque loss rates in SS II system were not significantly different when three different tightening torque values were applied (P > .05), however GS II and US II systems exhibited significantly lower loss rates with 40 Ncm torque value than with 20 Ncm (P < .05). 3. In all implant systems, postload removal torque loss rates were lowest when the torque value of 30 Ncm was applied (P < .05). 4. Postload removal torque loss rates tended to increase in order of SS II, GS II and US II system. 5. There was no correlation between initial removal torque value and postload removal torque loss rate (P > .05).

Electrochemical discharge machining is a very recent technique for non-conducting materials such as ceramics and glasses. ECDM is conducted in the NaOH solution and the cathode electrode is separated from the solution by $H_2$ gas bubble. Then the discharge is appeared and the non-conductive material is removed by spark and some chemical reactions. In the ECDM technology, the $H_2$ bubble control is the most important factor to stabilize the discharging condition. In this paper, we proposed the discharge peak monitoring/ discharging duty feedback algorithms for the discharge stabilization and the feasibility of this algorithm is verified by various pattern machining in the constant preload conditions for the cathode electrode.
