  • In this study, the influences of the context of discrepant events on the conceptual change process using cognitive conflict strategy were investigated in terms of students' cognitive and motivational variables such as cognitive conflict, situational interest, attention, effort, conceptual understanding. A preconception test was administered to 536 seventh graders. A test of response to a discrepant event and a situational interest questionnaire were then administered. The context of discrepant events, either scientific or everyday, was randomly presented to the subjects. After learning the concept of density, the tests of attention, effort, and conceptual understanding were administered. The reponses of 194 students who had been found to possess the target misconception were analyzed. The results revealed that the scientific-context discrepant event induced higher cognitive conflict than everyday-context one. The context of discrepant events, however, did not show significant correlations with situational interest, attention, effort, and/or conceptual understanding. The result of path analysis indicated that the context of discrepant events both directly influenced cognitive conflict and indirectly influenced conceptual understanding via cognitive conflict.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate undergraduate students' preconception about the needed knowledge to understand organic reactions based on electron flow and undergraduate students' ability that understand fundamental chemical reaction based on electron flow, and was to offer pertinent teaching and learning method. For this study, 18 sophomores that majored in chemistry education of H University, were sampled. Test papers were newly developed that based on previous research. Undergraduate students' response was classified and reasons of the response were qualitatively analyzed by interview. According to the results of this study, it was found that undergraduate students had good understanding on the concept about the electron configuration of atoms and on the concepts about the needed knowledge to understand chemical reactions based on electron flow. But they didn't apply the concepts to the fundamental chemical reaction. Therefore, teaching and learning strategy that apply the needed concepts to understand chemical reactions based on electron flow to chemical reactions should be developed.

  • In this study, students' responses to anomalous data in studying ‘density' were analyzed, and the relationships among trait/state self-regulation strategies, the degree of cognitive conflict, and conceptual change were examined. A trait self-regulation strategy test, a preconception test, and a test of response to anomalous data were administered to 352 eighth graders. Among them, 146 students whose preconceptions were consistent with the presented initial theory were selected. After they had read a scientific explanation, a state self-regulation test and a researcher-made conception test were administerd. There were no significant correlations among the subcategory scores of trait/state self-regulation strategies and the degree of cognitive conflict. The scores of the conception test were significantly correlated with those of trait planning, trait effort, state planning, state self-monitoring, and state effort. State effort was only a significant predictor on students' conceptual change.

  • This study is the qualitative study in order to discover a direction of field courses by analyzing what elementary school students observe or hypothesis in field courses. The purpose of it is to find any relevancy between the observations and hypotheses generated. The result of the study were as follows; First, most participants have observed mostly based on their vision due to the characteristic of field courses, and the observations of sedimentary layers were mainly generated on the rocks while most hypotheses were on geological structures. Secondly, according to observational descriptions the frequency of the comparative observation was high as well as the cases when two different types of observations were joined together. The last conclusion from this investigation is, according to the standard of observational types, the hypotheses combined with the interpretive observation and comparative observation had the greatest percentage. This shows that many participants tried to rationalize their thoughts by interpreting geological structures and comparing them with other people's cases as well. Scientific explanatory hypotheses were mainly found according to the standard of hypothetical types, which can be constructed that those participants tried to explain and apply established knowledge and preconception.

  • The purpose of this study is to classify types of preconception on the seasonal change to middle school students and to find out how the developed multimedia material changes their conception in the seasonal change. The questionnaire about the variation of season consisted of 10 items. Questions are given to 80 ninth graders. Control and experimental group was 23 and 57 students, respectively and they were instructed for two class periods. A learning method using multimedia was applied to the experimental group. On the other hand, traditional teaching-learning method was used for the control group. A learning method using multimedia in this study had an effect on the conceptual changes (p$<$0.01). Data in this study was divided into six levels to classify the changes of concepts in detail. As a result, it showed that a learning method using multimedia was effective for students to make progress from unscientific to scientific concepts, to build up scientific concepts, to build up scientific concepts, and to elaborate scientific concepts as compared with traditional method.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Folic acid supplementation before pregnancy is known to significantly reduce the risk of having a baby with neural tube defects (NTDs). Therefore, it is important for women to be aware of the effects of folic acid supplementation before pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness and preconceptional use of folic acid and to assess the current knowledge about folic acid among low-income pregnant women in Korea. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A questionnaire survey was conducted in 2012. Five hundred pregnant women were selected from the waiting list for the Nutriplus program implemented in public health centers using a multistage clustered probability sampling design. Data from 439 women were analyzed after excluding ones with incomplete answers. RESULTS: Among women who responded to the questionnaire, 65.6% had heard of folic acid before pregnancy, and 26.4% reported on the preconceptional use of folic acid. Women with a university degree or higher education were more likely to be aware of folic acid and to take folic acid in the preconception period. In a multivariate logistic regression, when age, education level, household income, employment status, gravidity, parity, and folic acid awareness were included in the model, folic acid awareness was a strong predictor of preconceptional folic acid use. As of interview, 85.4% and 77.7% of women were aware of the NTD-preventive role of folic acid and the appropriate time to take folic acid, respectively. The main sources of information on folic acid were healthcare professionals (41.2%), friends and family members (31.2%), and the media (26.5%). CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that public health strategies are needed to increase the preconceptional use of folic acid among Korean women.

  • This study investigated the comical essence of animations and the comicality found in Korean animations focusing on the comical elements signifying the promotion of laughing and its meaning. In addition, it has been found from this study that the comical essence of animations was the laughing that expanded the recognition and awareness for the entity to be revived, by suggesting the following: 1) the fact that the laughing would be unexpected and it would stimulate the imagination of audience in unprecedented situations in which the method of creation would be unthinkable and thereby the laughing occurred would endow audience with thought, feeling and sense etc. that would not have been perceived so far; and 2) furthermore, the ideal world through grotesque expressions. Meanwhile, unlike the general preconception that animations would be considered one of the popular art forms with strong comical elements, it has been noted that there have been a very few Korean animations with strong comical elements. Besides, it has been confirmed that they have focused not on created and grotesque comicality, but on linguistic comicality based on the forms of characters or their movement itself, or humor and witty remarks.

On the basis of this way, firstly they draw up and put in free-concepts were investigated from objective test and sought after misconeption which student had and inquired whether the result of response made difference by sex and areas or not The result of study is as follows: 1. In the course of investigating and analyzing mis-preconecptios, teacher had misconceptions partially, as like students. 2. Many a student have misconceptions: nourishment in made for itself in body. 3. In circulation range most of students know that heart is making blood, and they don't make conception that blood is nourishment which was eaten from food. 4. They know the breath is only physiological function: they breathe to live. All air-breathing is necessary. 5. They are not relevant blood in course of urine and sweat formation they have non-scientific conceptions which water eaten is so. They know that all of sweat and urine and ordure is excretion. To sum up, many student have misconceptions as for digestion and circulation and breath and excretion of body especially. Circulation and excretion is more so. if inspection in a field of sex, they will know male had less misconceptions than female. in a field of region, student from rural are as had more misconceptions than the one from urban areas.

  • The purpose of this study was to comparatively analyze the color characteristics of the Japanese ethnic look advanced by Japanese and western designers in comparison with the actual traditional colors of Japan. The data determining the traditional colors of Japan was collected through a critical apparatus examination of 250 colors and the color data of what determines Japanese ethnic look was collected through an analysis of the clothing appearing in four fashion collections -Paris, Milan, London, and New York- from the 2004 S/S collections to the 2008 F/W collections. For the analysis of these colors, Photoshop was used with an RGB value measuring under 300dpi resolutions. The RGB values were then converted to H V/C values through Munsell Conversion 8.0.3, and they were analyzed using Munsell's 40 Hue and PCCS. The results of this study are as follows: Japanese designers are expressing their own aesthetic theory by designing fashions in traditionally Japanese hues. However, neutral colors and low-chroma tones appear more often than traditional colors. This study illustrates how these designers use color to reflect their inside ideals being oversensitive traditonal ideals. In contrast, western designers reflect more contemporary trends through the use of hues that more clearly reveal their preconception of the colors of the Orient rather than actual traditional Japanese colors. Moreover, these foreign designers tend to approach fashion design by the means of shape rather than color. Japanese designers systematically analyze and apply their own culture to contemporary fashion design. Their efforts serve as a good reference model for research on traditional culture and fashion design.
