  • In this research, a precast concrete slab with two ribs was developed to increase the stiffness of slab. The developed precast slabs are allowed to cast concrete for multi stories and to construct concrete slabs without any props. Seven concrete slabs were tested to investigate the behavior of the developed precast slabs. Test results indicated that the developed slabs showed a similar behavior with the slabs without ribs.

  • Steel bar is used for as a reinforcing material in a concrete slab track. Bacuase the steel re-bar could provide passes for current transition, all the cross points of steel re-bars should be insulated by using plastic materials. This is due to the loss of signal intensity of track-circuit. In this study, GFRP bars are adopted in place of the traditional steel reinforcing bars for a concrete slab track to minimize the loss of the signal intensity. In order to evaluate the replacing effect on eletrical characteristic of slab track, measurements of surface resistivity are conducted on steel and GFRP reinforced precast slab tracks. In the results, the GFRP reinforced slab strack shows the higher resistivity than the steel reinforced slab track.

  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate the static & dynamic behavior of a precast bracket under precast road deck slab of double deck tunnel. In order to improve the construction speed, the field prefabricated bracket to connect the intermediate slab to the precast shield tunnel lining structure has been developed in the 'SPC (Steel Precast Concrete) bracket'. The experiments were performed for the full scale model in order to evaluate the performance of the 'SPC bracket', the structural stability was verified through the FEM analysis. The result of static loading test, no deformations or cracks of the bracket undergo the ultimate load was investigated. In addition, no pulling or deformation of the chemical anchor for fixing the bracket was measured. As a result of dynamic loading test, it was investigated that there is no problem in the chemical anchor for fixing the bracket. FEM analysis showed similar behavior to static load test and it was determined that there is no problem in serviceability and structural safety.

  • Precast slab track system(PSTS) is a concrete track laying system where the slab panels are pre-manufactured in factories and assembled and installed on-site. PSTS has been developed for the past 30 years in countries where railway technologies are advanced such as Japan and Germany to improve the various drawbacks of the in-situ concrete slab track. However, the usefulness of PSTS is being continuously approved by many other countries such as China, Taiwan, Austria, Italy, Spain, etc,. Lately, not only Japan and Germany, but also Austria, Italy and China have developed their own PSTS by collaboration between their Governments and private enterprises and are now attempting to expand their businesse soverseas. In accordance to such movement, in 2006, the Korean Railroad Research Institution and Sampyo E&C have developed a Korean PSTS by joint research. PSTS consists of concrete panel, under pouring layer and concrete base layer. Amongst these components, the panel is the main component of PSTS which supports the train load and has a great effect on the track quality, workability and economics. Therefore, a study is to be conducted to select the optimum size for the Panel of the precast slab track system panel by analyzing the various standards & forms, interpretation of finite elements of the selected model and economical analysis.

  • In this paper, the effects of initial built-in deformation and temperature deformation on the stress distribution of discontinuous precast concrete track slab under train load were examined. According to the results, when train load is put on a precast concrete slab with initial built-in deformation and deformation due to temperature gradient, the maximum tensile stresses develop at the upper side of slab in the slab center, edge center and corner of shear pocket; the stress distribution is different from that of the case under train load only. Therefore, to accurately predict the actual weak points and failure modes, one should calculate the stress under train load considering the initial built-in and temperature deformation of the slab.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the early-age performance of precast pavements constructed by replacing existing asphalt pavements for a bus stop section in urban bus only lanes. The behavior monitoring items included the differences in the levels between asphalt and precast pavements at the entrance and exit of the precast pavement, joint widths and level differences between precast slabs, slab settlement, and skid resistance at the slab surface. The applicability of diamond grinding techniques was also investigated. The results of this study showed that the slab level, joint width, settlement, and skid resistance were not much changed as time passed, which implied that the precast pavements stably sustained vehicle loads. It was also found that employing diamond grinding could much improve the leveling between precast slabs and the surface skid resistance.

  • The important factors that should be considered when designing and constructing the precast prestressed concrete pavement were investigated in this study. Those factors included traffic and environmental loads, interaction between the concrete slab and the underlying layers, determination of the slab thickness and the prestressing amount. In addition, the behaviors of the precast prestressed concrete pavement when post-tensioning was applied were analyzed using a finite element model. The effects of the number of anchors, the horizontal resistance of underlying layers, the pavement length, the slab thickness, and the bearing area of the anchorage on the distribution of compressive stresses were analyzed.

  • There is a limit manufacturing precast products for the construction industry using conventional cement concrete and precast iron due to many reasons. Therefore, precast product technologies using polymer concrete are widely developed across the world because using polymer concrete can be over come this limitation. This study reviewed and analyzed the trends of development and practical usages of ploymer concrete precast products in foreign countries based on selected literatures. It was observed that polymer concrete precast products have been widely used as utility structures wall and slab members. decoration products, traffic products, hydraulic structures and industry equipments.

  • This paper highlights a study undertaken on the free vibration of a precast steel-concrete composite slab panel for track support. The steel-concrete composite slab track is an evolvement from the slab track, a form of ballastless track which is becoming increasingly attractive to asset owners as they seek to reduce lifecycle costs and deal with increasing rail traffic speeds. The slender nature of the slab panel due to its reduced depth of construction makes it susceptible to vibration problems. The aim of the study is driven by the need to address the limited research available to date on the dynamic behaviour of steel-concrete composite slab panels for track support. Free vibration analysis of the track slab has been carried out using ABAQUS. Both eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes have been extracted using the Lanczos method. The fundamental natural frequencies of the slab panel have been identified together with corresponding mode shapes. To investigate the sensitivity of the natural frequencies and mode shapes, parametric studies have been established, considering concrete strength and mass and steel's modulus of elasticity. This study is the world first to observe crossover phenomena that result in the inversion of the natural orders without interaction. It also reveals that replacement of the steel with aluminium or carbon fibre sheeting can only marginally reduce the natural frequencies of the slab panel.
