This study presents a simplifled calculation method for required ductility of coupling beams in precast coupled shear walls at preliminary seismic design stages. Deflection of precast coupled shear walls based on a continuum approach is combined with inelastic gap opening of horizontal connection of panels to provide a relationship between the system-level ductility and the element-level ductility in a precast coupled shear wall. The equation proposed herein for ductility requirement for coupling beams shows that higher stiffness and lower strength of coupling beams result in high ductility reuqirement. The equation also shows that the ductility requirement is proportional to the degree of gap opening of the story in question. However, the coupling beam ductility in higher stories are not affected by gap openings of horizontal connections of panel.

The paper introduces an experimental program for the newly developed vertical joints between Precast Concrete (PC) walls to improve their in-plane shear capacity. Compared to the existing vertical joints, two types of vertical joints were developed by increasing the transverse reinforcement ratio and improving frictional force at the joint interface. A total of four specimens including the Reinforced Concrete (RC) wall and PC walls with developed vertical joints were designed and constructed. The constructed specimens were experimentally investigated through monotonic shear tests. The observed damage, load-deformation relationship, strain and strength are investigated and compared with the cases of RC wall specimen. Experimental results indicate that the maximum force and initial stiffness of the PC wall with proposed vertical joints were decreased by comparing with those of RC wall. However, the ultimate displacement increased by up to 217.30% compared to the RC wall specimen. In addition, brittle failure did not occurred and relatively few cracks and damages occurred.

The objective of the study is to establish a BIM modeling of precast concrete(PC) shear wall with various wall-to-base connections. The family library of PC shear wall was established in BIM program using component function in a IFC(Industry foundation classes) file format and SketchUp program. From the BIM program, the amounts of concrete, reinforcing bars and steel materials as well as the interference of arranged reinforcing bars can be accurately evaluated in the PC shear walls with spliced sleeves, bolt, or welding plate connection methods. Although the additional metallic materials such as steel plates, bolts, and nuts were used in the PC shear walls with welding plate connection method, their amounts of materials, economic efficiency, and environmental impact were similar to those with spliced sleeve connection. Consequently, the bolt or welding connection is a highly applicable method as wall-to-base connection of PC shear walls, and it was a more useful method than spliced sleeve method, particularly considering the constructability.

This study aims at developing a new seismic resistant method by using precast concrete wall panels for existing low-rise, reinforced concrete beam-column buildings such as school buildings. Three quasi-static hysteresis loading tests were performed on one unreinforced beam-column specimen and two reinforced specimens with U-type precast wall panels. Top shear connection of the PC panel was required to show the composite strength of RC column and PC wall panel. However, the strength of the connection did not influence directly on the ultimate loading capacities of the specimens in the positive loading because the loaded RC column push the side of PC wall panel and it moved horizontally before the shear connector receive the concentrated shear force in the positive loading process. Under the positive loading sequence(push loading), the reinforced concrete column and PC panel showed flexural strength which is larger than 97% of the composite section because of the rigid binding at the top of precast panel. Similar load-deformation relationship and ultimated horizontal load capacities were shown in the test of PR1-LA and PR1-LP specimens because they have same section dimension and detail at the flexural critical section. An average of 4.7 times increase in the positive maximum loading(average 967kN) and 2.7 times increase in the negative maximum loading(average 592.5kN) had resulted from the test of seismic resistant specimens with anchored and welded steel plate connections than that of unreinforced beam-column specimen. The maximum drift ratios were also shown between 1.0% and 1.4%.
This study investigates the behavior of precast concrete cantilever wall systems with new vertical connections under cyclic loading. C-type steel connections for PC wall systems are proposed for the transfer of bending moments between walls in the vertical direction, whereas a shear key in the center of the wall is prepared to transfer shear forces by bearing pressure. The proposed connections are assembled easily because the directions of the slots are different at the edges of the walls. Structural performance characteristics such as the strength, ductility, and failure modes of test specimens were investigated. The longitudinal reinforcing steel bars, which are connected to the C-type connections, yielded first. Ultimate deformation was terminated owing to premature failure of the connections. The strength and deformation obtained from the cross-sectional analysis were generally similar to experimental data.

Precast Seismic Structural Systems (PRESSS) provided an iterative procedure for obtaining optimum design of unbonded post-tensioned coupled precast concrete wall systems. Although PRESSS procedure is effective, however, it is lengthy and laborious. The purpose of this research is to employ Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to predict the optimum design parameters for such wall systems while avoiding the demanding iterative process. The developed ANN model is very accurate in predicting the nondimensional optimum design parameters related to post-tensioning reinforcement area, yield force of shear connectors and ratio of moment resisted by shear connectors to the design moment. The Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE) for the test data for these design parameters is around %1 and the correlation coefficient is almost equal to 1.0. The developed ANN model is then used to study the effect of different design parameters on wall behavior. It is observed that the design moment and the concrete strength have the most influence on the wall behavior as compared to other parameters. Several design examples were presented to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the ANN model.
This paper investigates the behavior of precast concrete (PC) shear walls with a new vertical connections for a fast remodeling construction. The C-type vertical connections for the PC wall systems are proposed for transfer of bending moment between top and bottom walls in the vertical direction while a shear key in the center of wall is prepared to transfer shear forces by bearing action. The proposed vertical connections allows easy fabrication thanks to slots at the edges of wall in opposite directions. The plane PC wall systems subject to lateral load are compared with ordinary wall systems by investigating the effects of connection on the stiffness, strength, ductility, and failure modes of whole systems. The load-displacement relationship and influence of premature failure of connections are examined. The experimental test showed that the longitudinal reinforcing steel bars placed at the edges of walls yielded first and the ultimate deformation were terminated due to premature failure of connections. The diagonal reinforcements for efficient shear transfer in the walls were not effective. The strength and deformation obtained through the section analysis were generally in agreement with the experimental data, and indicated that. Gap opening contributed to the deformation behavior more than any other factors.
In high rise buildings that utilize precast large panel system for construction, the shear wall provides strength and stiffness during earthquakes. The performance of a wall panel system depends mainly on the type of connection used to transfer the forces from one wall element to another wall element. This paper presents an experimental investigation on different types of construction detailing of the precast wall to wall vertical connections under reverse cyclic loading. One of the commonly used connections in India to connect wall to wall panel is the loop bar connection. Hence for this study, three types of wet connections and one type of dry connection namely: Staggered loop bar connection, Equally spaced loop bar connection, U-Hook connection, and Channel connection respectively were used to connect the precast walls. One third scale model of the wall was used for this study. The main objective of the experimental work is to evaluate the performance of the wall to wall connections in terms of hysteretic behaviour, ultimate load carrying capacity, energy dissipation capacity, stiffness degradation, ductility, viscous damping ratio, and crack pattern. All the connections exhibited similar load carrying capacity. The U-Hook connection exhibited higher ductility and energy dissipation when compared to the other three connections.

The purpose of this study is to develop a precast concrete structural wall system that can assure reliable seismic performance. In previous studies, the connections of precast concrete structural walls have had some problems in their seismic performance. Therefore, this research proposes precast concrete structural walls which have an improved seismic performance. One is a hybrid precast concrete structural wall that is composed of a reinforced concrete component and a precast concrete component, and another is a precast concrete wall whose reinforcements have a partially reduced section and are partially unbonded from the surrounding concrete. To evaluate the seismic performance of the proposed precast concrete structural walls, the behavior of three specimens, including a reinforced concrete wall, were subjected to reversed cyclic combined flexure and shear. According to the test results, the proposed precast concrete structural walls have reliable seismic performance.

Precast large panel structures have various connection system such as the horizontal slab-to-wall connection, the vertical wall to wall connection, horizontal slab-to-slab connection, etc. Horizontal connection is connected by vertical tie bars, and vertical joint is connected loop bars and shear keys. The basic function is equalized deformations on later forces and the entire wall panel assembly acts as monolithic actions. Under lateral load some slip occurs in almost vertical connections. The shape and detail of precast connections are very important to the monolithic behavior of overall structures. The paper is a study on the design method and new elasto-plastic analysis of the connections by rigid-bodies spring model.
