Specific joint devices composed of end-plates and through bolts are under development to assemble steel beams to PC columns efficiently by dry construction method for the PCS structural system, of which major structural components are precast concrete columns and steel beams. Seismic performance of the joint devices had been evaluated by experimental tests in the previous studies and it was showed that all the performance requirements regarding to strength deterioration, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity were satisfied to the criteria of ACI requirements, but the initial stiffness was not. In order to find out possible causes of the insufficient rigidity of the joint devices and provide the proper measures to improve the performance of the joint accordingly, numerical analyses were carried out by using ABAQUS. Parameters, such as thickness of neoprene pad, conditions of surface between PC column and end-plate, magnitude of pretension forces of through bolts, stiffness of end-plate were taken into consideration. As the result, it was found that the rigidity of the PCS system was negatively affected by the magnitude of initial gaps between PC columns and end-plates, and insufficient stiffness of neoprene fillers and end plates. In order to improve the initial stiffness performance of the joints, measures such as increase of the magnitude of pretension forces on through bolts and increase of the stiffness of end-plate by reducing the bolt pitch and providing adequate stiffeners are recommended.

Numerous past studies have shown that safety and serviceability of many concrete infrastructures and buildings built in 1970's have far less strength capacities than their original intended design capacities, thereby requiring repair and strengthening. Currently, aged concrete structures are being repaired using various methods developed in the past. Unfortunately, these methods do not consider the specific conditions that these members are under, but they merely attach repairing materials on the external surface for random strength improvements. Therefore, in order to improve repair and strengthening methods by considering composite behavior between repairing material and structural member, enhanced construction methodologies are needed. Also, the enhanced repairing and strengthening methods must be able to be implemented on structural members constructed using high performance concrete to meet the present construction demand of building mammoth structures. Therefore, in this study, a repairing and strengthening method for retrofitting high strength concrete (HSC) columns that can effectively improve column performance is developed. A square HSC column's cross-sectional shape is converted to an octagonal shape by attaching precast members on the surface of the column. Then, the octagonal column surface is surface wrapped using Carbon Fiber Sheets (CFS). The method allows maximum usage of confinement effect from externally jacketing CFS to improve strength and ductility of repaired HSC columns. The research results are discussed in detail.

Recently, a great progress has been made in bridge construction technology through the development of high performance materials and new structural types. However, most of attention has been paid to the cast-in-place technologies and material cost saving. The cast-in-place method is always subject to some environmental damages in construction sites, which frequently causes conflicts with residents. To overcome the disadvantages, a lot of fabrication construction method was developed. Most fabrication construction methods developed up to now have been applied for superstructure of bridges. In contrast, such fabricable methods developed for substructures are extremely rare. A fabricated column using ICH CFT(Internally Confined Hollow CFT) column was developed in a series of previous researches. Included in the previous studies are design and construction methods for the precast segmental coping, the column-coping connection, the column-segment connection, column-foundation connection. In this paper, seismic performance of the fabricated ICH CFT columns was extensively investigated experimentally. Two test specimens were prepared depending on the connection methods of segments; one by mortar-grouting method and the other by reinforcement method using stiffeners.

Hybrid & Integrated Beam (HI-BEAM), one of the composite systems, appears to have the advantage of high rigidity of reinforced concrete structures and long span of steel structures. In addition, because HI-BEAM makes the ends of beams from reinforced concrete, it is able to construct ideal composite construction method for effectively joining with reinforced concrete columns and can produce high-quality concrete structures without completing them in the field. Existing studies on the HI-BEAM method are mostly studies on structural aspects or epidemiological characteristics, or studies on the productivity and cost analysis of different structures through case studies, and analysis of actual construction methods is based on actual construction sites. In this study, the economic feasibility of the HI-BEAM method is verified by comparing the productivity and construction costs of the RC-BEAM method (RC-BEAM) method and the HI-BEAM method.

With the amendment to the Building Act in November of 2005 that offered incentives in terms of floor area ratio and number of stories to apartment buildings adopting the Rahmen structure to facilitate remodeling, the construction industry is paying more attention to PC structures. As connections between PC columns and beams require complex design, it is very difficult to install and remove forms. Since forms made of plywood for such connections are fabricated and installed on site, a significant amount of labor is required, and constructability is low. Furthermore, after concrete casting, the forms are removed in a state in which they cannot be recycled, which leads to a significant amount of construction waste. For this reason, a solution to address such issues needs to be studied. However, many researchers have focused only on the structural performance of PC structures in Korea and elsewhere, ignoring the need for research on the forms used in building PC structure connections. Therefore, this research aims to develop a form that can improve the productivity of PC structure connection construction, and compare it with conventional forms to highlight its contribution to gains in productivity and economic viability.

The development of the Construction Production Rates System for appropriate construction cost calculation has recently come to the fore as a means of invigorating OSC based PC structure which currently needs institutional frameworks. PC structure based construction expenses consist of the factory-built assembly, transportation and on-site installation. Recently, in the field of transportation and site installation, research on product structure development is being conducted, such as presenting the standard product calculation system reflecting the results of field survey for each subsidiary materials (Lee et al., 2021). On the other hand, there is no ongoing research on estimating construction expenses of Factory-built assembly. This study suggests Construction Production Rates System which can be used for PC subsidiary materials based Factory-built assembly cost estimations. For the research, work types for the construction procedures have been categorized, and the standard input manpower suitable for the corresponding work characteristics has been derived from analyzing the associated Construction Standard Production Rates for each work type. Also, as the research referred PC subsidiary materials (such as columns, beams, walls, and slab, as well as on-site installation) and the standard number of workforce based on work types, one can calculate direct labor cost, using what the research shows. In addition, it suggests that the size of individual subsidiary materials be the extra cost factor, by using the characteristics that productivity changes depending on the size(m3) of subsidiary materials. It is expected that the research can contribute to objectively verifying factory-built assembly cost through of PC structure, which currently relies on estimates.

In recent years, the growing interest in off-site construction has led to factories scaling up their manufacturing and production processes in the construction sector. Consequently, continuous large-scale site monitoring in low-variability environments, such as prefabricated components production plants (precast concrete production), has gained increasing importance. Although many studies on computer vision-based site monitoring have been conducted, challenges for deploying this technology for large-scale field applications still remain. One of the issues is collecting and transmitting vast amounts of video data. Continuous site monitoring systems are based on real-time video data collection and analysis, which requires excessive computational resources and network traffic. In addition, it is difficult to integrate various object information with different sizes and scales into a single scene. Various sizes and types of objects (e.g., workers, heavy equipment, and materials) exist in a plant production environment, and these objects should be detected simultaneously for effective site monitoring. However, with the existing object detection algorithms, it is difficult to simultaneously detect objects with significant differences in size because collecting and training massive amounts of object image data with various scales is necessary. This study thus developed a large-scale site monitoring system using edge computing and a small-object detection system to solve these problems. Edge computing is a distributed information technology architecture wherein the image or video data is processed near the originating source, not on a centralized server or cloud. By inferring information from the AI computing module equipped with CCTVs and communicating only the processed information with the server, it is possible to reduce excessive network traffic. Small-object detection is an innovative method to detect different-sized objects by cropping the raw image and setting the appropriate number of rows and columns for image splitting based on the target object size. This enables the detection of small objects from cropped and magnified images. The detected small objects can then be expressed in the original image. In the inference process, this study used the YOLO-v5 algorithm, known for its fast processing speed and widely used for real-time object detection. This method could effectively detect large and even small objects that were difficult to detect with the existing object detection algorithms. When the large-scale site monitoring system was tested, it performed well in detecting small objects, such as workers in a large-scale view of construction sites, which were inaccurately detected by the existing algorithms. Our next goal is to incorporate various safety monitoring and risk analysis algorithms into this system, such as collision risk estimation, based on the time-to-collision concept, enabling the optimization of safety routes by accumulating workers' paths and inferring the risky areas based on workers' trajectory patterns. Through such developments, this continuous large-scale site monitoring system can guide a construction plant's safety management system more effectively.
