  • By measuring concrete temperature and strains of concrete and reinforcing bars throughout gages embedded and also by observing the crack occurrence, this study aims at the characteristics of structural behavior of subway wall structure in associate with concrete ages. The length of 23.5m, thickness of 2.0m of real subway custody line was selected as a representative structure and 7 thermocouples and 6 strain gages were installed to measure the behavior of wall structure. The results were compared and verified with analytical results using MIDAS in order to show their usefulness. It was found that only attachment of strain gages on the surface of reinforcing bars can figure out the timing of crack occurrence and hydration heat program is useful to estimate comparatively exact magnitudes of temperature. Since estimated time of crack occurrence throughout thermal stress analysis depends on the period of transferred thermal stress from concrete to reinforcing bars, however, cracks from naked eyes were identified later than analytical results. Cracks were observed first at the center of wall line and then to the end of line symmetrically.

  • API steel is used for line-pipe to transport the oil and natural gas. As the recent trends in the development of API steel are towards the use of larger diameter and thicker plate, many researches have been studied to achieve higher strength, higher toughness and lower yield ratio in API steel. However, the strength of API steel after pipe forming is changed depending on the competition of the Bauschinger effect and work hardening which are affected by the strain history during pipe forming process. So, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of microstructure on the Bauschinger effect for API steel. To change the microstructure of API steel we have changed the hot rolling condition and the amounts of V and Cu addition. The compression-tensile test and the microstructure observation by OM and TEM were conducted to investigate the yield strength drop and the correlation between the Bauschinger effect and microstructure of API steel. The experimental results show that the increase of polygonal ferrites volume fraction increases the Baushcinger effect due to the back stress which comes from the increase of mobile dislocation density at polygonal ferrite interior during the compressive deformation. The hot rolling condition was more effective on the Bauschinger effect in API steel than the small amount of V and Cu addition.

  • Ring forging process is more appropriate for high-length and thin walled ring, because it utilizes the forging press and hence does not require heavy-duty ring rolling mill. Although ring forging process is very simple and economic for facilities, the process is not efficient because of multi-forging-step and low material utilization. An effective ring forging process is developed using a hollow ingot. When a hollow ingot is used with a workpiece, the ingot can be forged into a final ring without multi-stage pre-forging process, such as, cogging, upsetting, and piercing, etc.. Finally it has advantages of the material utilization and process improvement because a few reheating and forging process are not necessary to make workpiece for ring forging. The important design variables are the applied plastic deformation energy to eliminate cast structure and make uniform properties. In this study, the mechanical properties after forging of hollow cast ingot were investigated from the experiment using circumferential sectional model. Also, the effects of process variables were studied by FEM simulation on the basis of thermo-visco-plastic constitutive equation. Applied strain is different at each position in length direction because diameter of hollow ingot is different in length direction. The different strain distribution become into a narrow gap by additional plastic deformation during diameter extension process.

  • Shear wave velocities of three selected sandy soils subject to drained triaxial compression test were continuously measured using the bender elements. The shear wave velocity during isotropic compression, as widely recognized, increased as confining pressure increased and they were correlated well. However, during drained shearing, the mean effective stress could no further provide a suitable correlation. The shear wave velocity during this stage was almost constant with respect to the mean effective stress. The vertical stress was found to be more favorable at this stage (since confining stress was kept constant). When sample was attained its peak stress, the shear wave velocity reduced and deviated from the previously existed trend line. This was probably caused by the non-uniformity induced by the formation of shear band. Subsequently, void ratios computed based on external measurements could not provide reasonable fitting to the initial stage of post-peak shear wave velocity. At very large strain levels after shear band formation, the digital images revealed that sample may internally re-arrange itself to be in a more uniform loose stage. This final stage void ratio estimated based on the proposed correlation derived during pre-peak state was close to the value of the maximum void ratio.

  • In this study, the ultra high strength concrete which have 80, 130, 180MPa took the heat from 20℃ to 700℃ and the 0, 20% stress in normal condition's to evaluate stress-strain, residual compressive strength and thermal expansion deformation were evaluated. The heating speed of specimen was 0.77℃/min 20~50℃, 50℃ before the target temperature, and the other interval's heating speed was 1℃/min. As a result, the stress-strain curve of non-load specimen showed the liner behavior at high temperature when the specimen's strength increased more. If ultra high strength concrete got loads, its compressive strength tended to decrease different from the normal strength concrete. The thermal expansion deformation was expanded from a vitrification of quartz over 500℃. however, over the 600℃, it was shrinked because of the dehydration of the combined water.

  • This study presents the combined effect of electric field application and mechanical compressive stress loading on deformation in a multilayer ceramic actuator, designed with stacking alternatively $0.2(PbMn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}O_3)-0.8(PbZr_{0.475}Ti_{0.525}O_3)$ ceramics and Ag-Pd electrode. The deformation behaviors were thought to be attributed to relative $180^{\circ}$domain quantities which is determined by pre-loaded stress and electric field. The non-linearity of piezoelectricity and strain are dependent upon the young's modulus resulting from the domain reorientation.

  • A tube hydroformability testing system was designed and fabricated so as to observe the forming process and to apply forming condition along arbitrarily pre-programmed internal pressure-axial feed path. The forming limit diagram of A6063 extruded tube, of 40.6 mm outer diameter and 2.25 mm thickness, was successfully obtained through free bulging and T-forming tests except the region of high positive minor strain. It is found that the data points marked on the FLD are mostly located near the strain paths from the finite element analysis excluding the cases of large axial feed. There exist data points even in the area beyond the uniaxial tension mode, since the reduction in thickness decreases due to the axial feed. The forming limit from T-forming test was considerably lower than that from free bulge test. It seems because the deformation is localized at the pole.

  • Computer simulation of a swaging manufacturing process is presented in this paper. Commercially available software has been used to develop the simulation algorithm. Based on the experience gained from trial runs, simulation of a tube swaging process has been carried out. The material parameters "n" (strain hardening exponent) and "K" (plastic modulus) are obtained from actual tensile test measurements of the tube material. Two different geometries for the die and the tube have been used in this work and a comparison made. Numerical simulation of the swaging process has been performed using the commercially available HyperMesh(r) for pre-processing, LS-DYNA(r) for analysis and LS-TAURUS(r) for post-processing. Some of the results obtained from this study are compared with those available in the literature.

  • In this paper, an algorithm to locate and size damage in a complex truss structure using the time domain response is presented. Sampled response data for specific time interval is spatially expanded over the structure to obtain the mean train energy for each element of the structure. The mean strain energy for each element is, in turn, used to build a damage index that represents the ratio of the stiffness parameter of the pre-damaged to the post-damaged structure. The validity of the methodology is demonstrated using data from a numerical example of a space truss structure with simulated damage. Also in the example, the effects of noisy data on the proposed algorithm are examined by adding random noised to the response data.

  • In this study, in-situ static and dynamic tests of four pre-stressed concrete (PC) track beams with different span lengths and curvatures in a straddle monorail transit system were reported. In the static load tests, the strain and deflection at critical sections of the PC track beams were measured to determine the load bearing capacity and stiffness. The dynamic responses of strain, deflection, acceleration, and displacement at key positions of the PC track beams were measured under different train speeds and train loads to systematically study the dynamic behaviors of the PC track beams. A three-dimensional finite element model of the track beam-vehicle coupled vibration system was established to help understand the dynamic behavior of the system, and the model was verified using the test results. The research results show that the curvature, span length, train speed, and train loads have significant influence on the dynamic responses of the PC track beams. The dynamic performance of the PC track beams in the curve section is susceptible to dynamic loads. Appropriate train loads can effectively reduce the impact of the train on the PC track beam. The PC track beams allow good riding comfort.
