  • Background: Many trials have been conducted the methods and types of intervention of form rollers, but no research has been done yet that mixes the methods and types of intervention. Objectives: To analyze the effects of myofascial release on the improvement of range of motion (ROM), flexibility, pain pressure threshold, and balance. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: All subjects measured ROM, flexibility, pressure pain threshold, and dynamic balance by pre-test. After pre-test, subjects were randomized that static-vibration foam rolling group (n=12), dynamic-vibration foam rolling group (n=12), general foam rolling group (n=12). For the intervention, 3 sets of 90 seconds were applied to each group, and rest time was set to 60 seconds between sets. In the post-test and follow-up test after 10 minutes, all three groups were measured the ROM, flexibility, pressure pain threshold, and dynamic balance. Results: The results of comparing ROM, flexibility, pressure pain thresholds, dynamic balance ability appeared higher significant difference in the pre-post-10 minutes follow up test in comparison between time in the intragroup (P<.001). As a result of comparing the change of pre-post-10 minutes follow up, static vibration foam rolling showed higher significant difference compared to control groups (P<.001). Conclusion: Through this study, when foam rolling is applied within the same intervention time, static foam rolling can be expected to have a better effect than the existing dynamic foam rolling as well as vibration foam roller can expect better effect than general foam rolling.

  • In this paper, a study on the development of OpenFOAM grid generation program for two-dimensional flow analysis is described. By using the pre-processor(eMEGA) of EDISON_CFD system, grids for OpenFOAM flow calculation were obtained. Resultant two-dimensional grids were used to calculate flow fields by applying simpleFoam, one of the OpenFOAM's popular solvers, and the obtained flow results were compared with theoretical and experimental data available. Also grids generated by present program were compared with grids by a commercial pre-processor Pointwise for the purpose of verification. Verification work includes three cases(single block, O-type single block, and multi block grid), and all results show reasonable matches. According to the current achievement, it can be concluded that OpenFOAM grid can be constructed conveniently by using eMEGA with GUI.

  • This paper presents a study on the selection of optimal mix proportions for producing lightweight pre-foam concrete as a substitute for Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete (ALC) without the accelerated curing. The study was conducted using a rapid hardening binder made from by-products of the steel industry as the primary raw material. The experimental results established the optimal mix proportions, which included retarder content, water/binder ratio, foam content, and fiber inclusion amount, for the production of lightweight foam concrete. The optimal mix proportion was determined to have a retarder content at the minimum amount required to secure the working time, W/B of 35%, a foam content limited to 65% or less, and a fiber inclusion amount of 0.05% or less.

  • An atmospheric plasma pre-treatment method was applied to polyurethane foam to improve its contact angle and adhesion. In order to investigate the optimum reaction condition of plasma treatment, type of reaction gas (nitrogen, argon, oxygen, air), rate of gas flow (30~150 mL/min), and reaction time (0~30 sec) were examined in a plate plasma reactor. Also, the effects were compared to those of a conventional vacuum plasma pre-treatment system. The result of the surface modification with respect to the treatment procedure was characterized by using SEM and ATR-FTIR. Due to a decrease of the contact angle of polyurethane foam, the greatest adhesion strength was achieved at a flow rate of 100 mL/min and at a reaction time of 10s for N2 gas. Consequently, the atmospheric plasma treatment reduced the contact angle of the polyurethane foam and also resulted in the improvement of the peel strength.

  • Pre-foaming that has been used in this study is using to control and guarantee quality, but the optimum mix proportion and regulation are not definite. Therefore, this study investigated properties of foamed concrete according to concentrations of foaming agent to improve usability of foamed concrete. Synthetic foaming agent such as AES(Alkyl Ether Sulfate) and AOS(Alpha Olefin Sulfonate) are used to make foam with 1, 3, and 5% concentrations. We found that the flow of foam concrete increases when foam concentration is high and AES is more flowable than AOS. Density and compressive strength increase when foam concentration is low.

  • An atmospheric plasma pre-treatment method was applied to polyurethane foam (density: 0.27) and rubber (butadiene rubber) to improve its contact angle and adhesion using atmospheric plate type reactor. In order to investigate the optimum reaction condition of plasma treatment, type of treatment gas (nitrogen, argon, oxygen, air), rate of gas flow ($30{\sim}100\;mL/min$), and treated time ($0{\sim}30\;s$) were examined in a plate plasma reactor. The result of the surface modification with respect to the treatment procedure was characterized by using SEM and ATR-FTIR. Due to a decrease of the contact angle of various materials, the greatest adhesion strength was achieved at optimum condition such as flow rate of 100 mL/min, reaction time of polyurethane foam 10 s and rubber 3 s for an atmosphere nitrogen gas. Consequently, the atmospheric plasma treatment reduced the wettability of the polyurethane foam and rubber also resulted in the improvement of the adhesion.

  • Purpose: This study investigates the impact of self-myofascial release using a foam roller on the quadriceps femoris for pelvic stability. We further compare the effects of a GRID surface Foam Roller (GFR), a Non-Vibration Foam Roller (NVFR), and a Vibration Foam Roller (VFR). Methods: Thirty healthy adults (15 males, 15 females) participated in this study and were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: GFR, NVFR, or VFR. Participants walked at self-selected speeds with an arm sling before and after foam roller stretching. The analyzed gait parameters included pelvic tilt, pelvic obliquity, and pelvic rotation. Results: In the NVFR and VFR groups, there was a Significant differences were obtained in the pelvic tilt between pre-test and post-test values (p<0.05) in the NVFR and VFR groups, but no significant difference was observed in the GFR group (p>0.05). Comparing the amount of change between the three groups exhibited a significant decrease in pelvic tilt in the NVFR and VFR groups compared to the GFR group (p<0.017). No significant differences were found in pelvic obliquity and pelvic rotation (p>0.05) in all groups. Conclusion: While walking, the use of a VFR for self-myofascial release results in pelvic alteration by reducing the anterior pelvic tilt. We propose that a foam roller can be utilized to enhance pelvic stability during gait.

  • Pre-foaming, one of the manufacturing way of foamed concrete, is influenced by foaming agent. When the foaming agent diluted with water, surface tension and viscosity are varied. Therefore, this study is reviewing the surface tension, viscosity and unit weight of foam by experimental factor such as foaming agent types(AES, AOS, VS FP) and foam agent dilution concentration (1, 3, 5%) and temperature of materials (5, 10, 20℃). As an expeimental result, the surface tension and viscosity slightly increased with increasing concentrations. Meanwhile, when increasing temperature, the viscosity has decreased. FP produce relatively stable foams only in case 3% or more, which produce unstable foams containing large amount of water content by decreasing only insignificant surface tension when diluted at concentration of 1%.

  • The experiments are performed to evaluate mechanical properties about foam and face materials of sandwich beams. These results are applied to the flexural wrinkling estimation of sandwich beam. The 3 point bending test shows that it is reasonable to include pre-buckling behavior in flexural wrinkling analysis, which is closer to experimental result. It is also conducted to survey the wrinkling behavior.
