  • The first Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) in Korea was carried out for Electric Power resource development. This study includes of the method and procedure of pre-Environmental investigation and EIA for Electric Power resource development. Through the analysis of these we make some conclusions for the improvemental and effective method of impact prediction, the environmentally sound and sustainable development of the earth(ESSD) and the collection of public opinions.

  • 최근 많은 수의 골프장 건설로 인하여 국토의 상당면적이 원지형의 변화 또는 파괴되고 있으며 주변 생태계가 급속한 변이를 겪고 있다. 골프코스 건설을 위해서는 정밀하고 효율적인 설계를 요하지만 기존의 통상적 설계방식으로는 사업의 방대성으로 인한 설계자료의 처리에 한계를 가지고 있었다. 특히 공사 후의 경관 변화에 대한 예측이나 환경영향 저감대책에 대하여 적절한 대안을 제시할 적절한 수단이 없었다. 따라서 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 지형정보시스템(GIS)을 골프코스 설계에 적용하여 건설에 따른 물리적 영향을 최소화시킬 수 있는 친환경적인 골프코스 설계 기법개발에 대하여 연구하였다. 연구된 내용은 지형정보시스템을 기초자료입력 단계에서부터 최종 성과물 단계까지 적용시켜 전 설계과정을 전산화하며, 부수적으로 골프 경기의 기능적 효과 증대 토지이용의 적정성, 코스유지 관리의 용이성 등을 사전 검토할 수 있는 친환경적 전산설계기법을 개발 연구하였다.

Determinants of Green Practices in the Petrochemical Sector: An Empirical Study

  • This paper discusses the determinants of green practices and incorporates some empirical findings from a recent study in the petrochemical sector in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The study was comprised of a survey and follow-up interviews with senior executives who participated in the survey. Of fourteen companies involved, the findings affirmed that the investigation of accidents, provision of an emergency response, employee training, decreasing the production of wastes, and pre-treating wastes before disposal should be stressed. Government requirement, the economic reasons and public pressures were the driving forces of green practices. The five most important determinants identified include performance evaluation, financial justification, impacts on company, management leadership and operations integration. Implementing environmental management systems as a feasible approach to green practices in the petrochemical sector was explored. The findings provide guidance that helps organisations to accommodate the determinants of green practices into achieving sustainable environmental goals.

중등학교 환경교과 선택현황에 기초한 환경교육 확산방안 (The Spreading Strategy of Environmental Education Based on the Status of Selecting Rate of Environment Subject in Secondary School)

  • This study aims to explore the ways in spreading and maturing of environmental Education(EE) in secondary school. To deal with this issue, researchers investigate the actual conditions of EE and grope for the ways in spreading and maturing of EE. According to investigation, the selecting rate of environment subject in secondary school is about 3%(compared selecting rate of other subject matters) in 2003. Based on the result, this study suggests followings. First, sequencing strategy of EE curriculum will be expected very efficaciously. Secondly, there is need to empasize daily experiences of EE beyond the formal subject matter. Thirdly and ultimately, thers is need to reform school curriculum centered EE. Moreover, there is need to empasize teacher education for the environment not only pre service but also in-service teacher training.

알루미늄 튜브 하이드로포밍에서의 예비 굽힘 공정의 효과에 관한 연구 (Study on the Influence of Pre-bending in an Aluminum Tube Hydroforming)

  • Recently social demands of fuel economy and environmental regulations require the development of lightweight components and new manufacturing technologies. The aluminum tube hydroforming is a manufacturing process which can provide lightweight components as automotive parts. In this paper, the hydroformability of aluminium tube in different condition of bending process is presented. An investigation has been conducted on how to control the deformed shape and its effect on thinning distribution after hydroforming by using finite element simulation. Finite element simulation of tube hydroforming for automotive trailing arm is carried out to explore the effect of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional bending.

음식물류폐기물 공공 자원화시설의 운영실태 조사를 통한 처리공정별 효율적인 운영방안 검토 (Investigation on the operational state of the public food waste treatment facilities and suggestions on their efficient operational management)

  • 현재 전국에는 255개의 음식물류 폐기물 자원화시설이 공공시설(95개소) 및 민간시설(160개소)에 의하여 운영되고 있으며, 이들 시설들은 97년도부터 지속적으로 설치되고 있다. 정부에서는 설치 및 운영에 관한 지침과 설치검사기준 등을 정하여 시행하고 있으나, 시설 설치 절차에 따른 세부적인 검토사항, 설계, 공정기준 등이 명확하지 않아 운영관리 체계 미흡, 처리효율 저하, 시설 하자 등이 문제점이 발생되고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 이들 문제점을 최소화하기 위한 시설 운영방안을 제시하기 위해 음식물 공공자원화시설 95개소를 대상으로 설문 및 현장방문조사를 실시하였다. 조사결과 전처리시설에서는 2계열 및 호퍼덮개 미설치, 음식물 과적 및 이송 물량 과다, 주처리시설은 운전미숙으로 인한 2차 환경오염발생, 과다 음식물투입으로 시설효율 저하, 시설운영상 부적합한 운전관리 기준 등이 문제점으로 조사되었다. 악취 및 음폐수(음식물류폐기물 처리과정 중 발생 폐수) 처리시설에서는 운영미숙, 주기적인 점검 부족, 처리시설 용량 부적절 등이 문제점으로 조사되었다. 이와 같이 조사되어진 문제점을 근거로 하여 효율적인 운영방안을 제시하였으며, 향후 음식물류 폐기물 자원화시설을 설치 및 운영하는데 있어 처리효율 제고, 시행착오 및 하자를 최소화할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • 도로건설에 대한 환경영향평가제도는 대부분의 사업이 타당성조사와 병행하여 실시하지 않고 계획이 확정된 후 사업실시단계에서 주로 오염의 저감방안을 검토하고 있어 입지의 타당성 등 근본적인 친환경적인 개발의 유도에 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 9개의 사전환경성 검토요소에 대한 지리정보체계의 공간분석기능을 도입하였으며, 개별 요소들의 평가결과를 통한 종합적인 검토를 수행할 수 있도록 사전 환경성검토 GIS 의사결정시스템을 구축하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 사전환경성 검토 GIS 의사결정시스템과 기 구축된 GIS 데이터 활용을 통해 환경성 검토에 객관성 충족 및 시간비용 절감이 기대되어 사업초기에 도로 노선선정 시 사전환경성 검토에 활용 가능할 것이다. 또한, 본 연구에서 개발된 시스템을 통하여 수치적이고 시각적인 자료를 활용한 평가로 주민의 합의를 보다 용이하게 이끌어 낼 수 있고, 사업초기에 비용과 시간을 절감하면서 도로건설에 따른 환경성을 검토할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Relationship of Blood Metabolites with Reproductive Parameters during Various Seasons in Murrah Buffaloes

  • Peri-partum metabolic profile was evaluated in winter and summer calving, with 15 Murrah buffaloes in each seasonal group. In summer calvers, significantly lower values were observed for blood plasma urea nitrogen (BUN) at day 30 pre-partum (p<0.05), on calving day (p<0.05) and at all other stages (p<0.01); plasma non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) values were significantly lower on day 30 pre-partum (p<0.01) and on day 60 post-partum (p<0.05). This was associated with significant reduction in days to first service (DFS) and service per conception (SPC) and an overall better reproductive performance in terms of service period, risk to first service on days 60, 90 and >90, and pregnancy risk to first service up to days 60 and 90. This may be attributed to better pre-partum nutritional status. Cervical and uterine involution were completed in fewer days, involutional changes took place at a faster pace and there were a lower number of abnormal involutional changes in winter compared to summer season. This may be attributed to better post-partum nutrition and less environmental stress. However, validation requires further targeted cohort investigation with a large sample size.

중학교 "환경" 교과의 교수.학습 및 평가 방법 연구 (A Study on Teaching-Learning and Evaluation Methods of Environmental Studies in the Middle School)

  • This study was performed to determine appropriate teaching-learning and evaluation methods for Environmental Studies. To promote the relevance of our study to the needs of the schools and concerned educational communities of environmental education, we reviewed related literature, conducted questionnaire surveys, interviewed related teachers and administrator, held meetings with experts, and field-tested our findings. For selecting and developing teaching-learning methods of Environmental Studies, findings of educational research in general are considered. moreover, principles of environmental education, general aim of environmental education, orientations of environmental education, and developmental stages of middle school students in educational psychology were attended. In addition, relevance to the purpose of the Environmental Studies curriculum, appropriateness for value inquiry as well as knowledge inquiry, small group centered class organization, social interaction centered teaching-learning process, regional environmental situation, significance of personal environment, evaluation methods of Environmental Studies, multi- and inter-disciplinary contents of the Environmental Studies textbook, suitability to the evaluation methods of Environmental Studies, and emphasis on the social interaction in teaching-learning process were regarded. It was learned the Environmental Studies can be taught most effectively in via of holding discussion sessions, conducting actual investigation, doing experiment-practice, doing games and plate, role-playing and carrying out simulation activities, and doing inquiry. These teaching-learning methods were field-tested and proved appropriate methods for the subject. For selecting and developing evaluation method of Environmental Studies, such principles and characteristics of Environmental Studies as objective domains stated in the Environmental Studies curriculum, diversity of teaching-learning organization, were appreciated. We categorized nine evaluation methods: the teacher may conduct questionnaire surveys, testings, interviews, non-participatory observations; they may evaluate student's experiment-practice performances, reports preparation ability, ability to establish a research project, the teacher may ask the students to conduct a self-evaluation, or reciprocal evaluation. To maximize the effect of these methods, we further developed an application system. It considered three variables, that is, evaluates, evaluation objectives domains, and evaluation agent, and showed how to choose the most appropriate methods and, when necessary, how to combine uses of different methods depending on these variables. A sample evaluation instrument made on the basis of this application system was developed and tested in the classes. The system proved effective. Pilot applications of the teaching-learning methods and evaluation method were made simultaneously; and the results and their implications are as follows. Discussion program was applied in a lesson dealing with the problems of waste disposal, in which students showed active participation and creative thinking. The evaluation method used in this lesson was a multiple-choice written test for knowledge and skills. It was shown that this evaluation method and device are effective in helping students' revision of the lesson and in stimulating their creative interpretations and responces. Pupils showed great interests in the actual investigation program, and this programme was proved to be effective in enhancing students' participation. However, it was also turned out that there must be pre-arranged plans for the objects, contents and procedures of survey if this program is to effective. In this lesson, non-participatory observation methods were used with a focus on the attitudes of students. A scaled reported in general description rather than in grade. Experiment-practice programme was adopted in a lesson for purifying contaminated water and in this lesson, instruction objectives were properly established, the teaching-learning process was clearly specified and students were highly motivated. On the other hand, however, it was difficult to control the class when some groups of students require more times to complete their experiment, and sometimes different results. As regards to evaluation, performance observation test were used for assessing skills and attitudes. If teachers use well-prepared Likert scale, evaluation of all groups within a reasonablely short period of time will be possible. The most effective and successful programme in therms of students' participation and enjoyment, was the 'ah-nah-bah-dah-market' program, which is kind of game of the flea market. For better organized program of this kind, however, are essential, In this program, students appraise their own attitudes and behavior by responding to a written questionnaire. In addition, students were asked to record any anecdotes relating to self-appraisal of changes on one's own attitudes and behaviours. Even after the lesson, students keep recording those changes on letters to herself. Role-playing and simulation game programme was applied to a case of 'NIMBY', in which students should decide where to located a refuse dumping ground. For this kind of programme to e successful, concepts and words used in the script should be appropriate for students' intellectual levels, and students should by adequately introduced into the objective and the procedures of the lessons. Written questionnaire was used to assess individual students' attitudes after the lesson, but in order to acquire information on the changes of students' attitudes and skills, pre-test may have to be made. Doing inquiry programme, in which advantages in which students actually investigated the environmental influence of the areas where school os located, had advantages in developing students' ability to study the environmental problems and to present the results of their studies. For this programme to be more efficient, areas of investigation should be clearly divided and alloted to each group so that repetition or overlap in areas of study and presentation be avoided, and complementary wok between groups bee enhanced. In this programme, teacher assessed students' knowledge and attitudes on the basis of reports prepared by each group. However, there were found some difficults in assessing students' attitudes and behaviours solely on the grounds of written report. Perhaps, using a scaled checklist assessing students' attitudes while their presentation could help to relieve the difficulties.

변형 혐기성 여상 반응조에서 교반강도가 유기물 제거효율에 미치는 영향 (Mixing effect on organic removal efficiency in treating low-strength wastewater using a modified anaerobic filter reactor)

  • Laboratory investigation was conducted to evaluat the mixing effects on organic removal efficiency to treat low-strength synthetic wastewater using modified anaerobic - filter reactor combining anaerobic filter and upflow anaerobic sludge blanket. Using the modified process the low-strength wastewater like municipal sewage could be treated with 85% T-COD removal efficiency at hydraulic retention time of 6 hours. At the constant organic loading of 0.5 kg COD/m 3-day, the organic removal efficiency and effluent COD concentration are increased as influent COD concentration increased from 125 mg/l to 500 mg/l. Mixing effects on organic removal efficiency are evident and optimum mixing speed is found as 50RPM. Placing the granular sludge and media on which slime layer was pre-formed into the reactor seemed to be very effective In achieving short start-up period. Therefore, the steady state was achived after 4 weeks and 1 week based on T-COD and S-COD, respectively.
