  • In mathematical modeling tasks, where students are exposed to model-eliciting for real and open problems, students are supposed to formulate and use a variety of mathematical skills and tools at hand to achieve feasible and meaningful solutions using appropriate problem solving strategies. In contrast to problem solving activities in conventional math classes, math modeling tasks call for varieties of mathematical ability including mathematical creativity. Mathematical creativity encompasses complex and compound traits. Many researchers suggest the exhaustive list of criterions of mathematical creativity. With regard to the research considering the possibility of enhancing creativity via math modeling instruction, a quantitative scheme to scale and calibrate the creativity was investigated and the assessment of math modeling activity was suggested for practical purposes.

  • In this thesis presents line balancing problems of two-sided and mixed model assembly line widely used in practical fields using genetic algorithm for reducing throughput time, cost of tools and fixtures and improving flexibility of assembly lines. Two-sided and mixed model assembly line is a special type of production line where variety of product similar in product characteristics are assembled in both sides. This thesis proposes the genetic algorithm adequate to each step in tow-sided and mixed model assembly line with suitable presentation, individual, evaluation function, selection and genetic parameter. To confirm proposed genetic algorithm, we apply to increase the number of tasks in case study. And for evaluation the performance of proposed genetic algorithm, we compare to existing algorithm of one-sided and mixed model assembly line. The results show that the algorithm is outstanding in the problems with a larger number of stations or larger number of tasks.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to find risk factors in cultivating ginseng based on risk assessments and suggest safety measures for main risks. Background: Safety education and training is one of the practical and effective methods to prevent occupational accidents and injuries. In agricultural sector, there are few contents of safety education as compared to other industries. Especially, farm work has different cultivation characteristics according to the crops, so it needs special education materials for each crop. Among the various types of crops, ginseng contains various risk factors due to its long cultivating period and unique environment. Therefore, safety education material specified for ginseng is necessary to improve ginseng farmers' safety. Method: Risk assessment for cultivating tasks of ginseng was carried out through data obtained from various methods (site survey, interview, literature survey). To improve objectivity, the risk assessment was applied with 3-criteria (researcher estimate, interview, previous research results). Finally, the three high-risk tasks were selected and safety measures for those tasks were provided. Results: Three tasks, such as 'Mounting, maintenance and removing supports', 'Pest control' and 'Harvest', were selected as risky tasks among total tasks. (1) In 'Mounting' and maintenance and removing supports', the farmers found to be exposed to the risks of musculoskeletal disorders and accidents related to operating the tablet machine. (2) In 'Pest control', agrichemical poisoning, musculoskeletal disorders and hyperthermia were main risks. Finally, (3) In 'Harvest', the farmers are mainly exposed to the possibility of accidents of agricultural machines and risks of musculoskeletal disorders. Thus, it needs to apply appropriate safety measures to those risky tasks, such as safety guidelines, convenience equipment, protective kit, and so on. Conclusion: This study can be used as basic data for agricultural safety and expected that it would be useful for further study. In addition, the results of the research will be produced in the form of animation, which will enhance the safety consciousness for aged farmers. Application: The result of this study can be used in developing safety education materials for ginseng farmers which is essential to prevent occupational accidents and injuries among ginseng farmers.

  • It is difficult for mathematics teachers to develop mathematical modeling tasks and implement mathematical modeling lessons for their students. These difficulties serve as a reason why mathematical modeling lessons are not implemented well in school mathematics. In this study, we aimed to examine how preservice mathematics teachers (PMTs) modify mathematical modeling tasks in mathematics textbooks as a way to develop mathematical modeling tasks and how they implement the mathematical modeling lesson. In particular, we focused on how the openness and reality reflected in the task and the mathematical modeling process change as PMTs modify the tasks. We collected data through PMTs' evaluation reports on analyzing textbook tasks, task modification, lesson plans and implementations, peer evaluation, and self-evaluation. Then, we analyzed these data according to the case analysis process. The findings revealed that when PMTs modified the textbook task, they focused on and improved the openness and the defining variables and the model stages of mathematical modeling process. However, when PMTs implemented lesson, the openness and the defining variables and the model stages of mathematical modeling process were restricted again. PMTs did not focus on other stages. Based on these results, the theoretical and practical implications of the study was discussed.
