  • HTS superconducting tapes are now commercially available for practical applications such as magnets and cables. Since superconductors in such applications are subjected to high mechanical loads that can significantly degrade the superconducting properties, mechanical properties and the strain tolerance known as the strain effect on superconducting properties are needed to be estimated for developing superconducting devices. The progress in technology achieved in the field of strain effect evaluation on the critical current of HTS tapes in various deformation modes is discussed in this study.

  • Ample research effort has been oriented into developing damage indices with the aim of estimating in a reasonable manner the consequences, in terms of structural damage and deterioration, of severe plastic cycling. Although several studies have been devoted to calibrate damage indices for steel and reinforced concrete members; currently, there is a challenge to study and calibrate the use of such indices for the practical evaluation of complex structures. The aim of this paper is to introduce an energy-based damage index for multi-degree-of-freedom steel buildings that accounts explicitly for the effects of cumulative plastic deformation demands. The model has been developed by complementing the results obtained from experimental testing of steel members with those derived from analytical studies regarding the distribution of plastic demands on several steel frames designed according to the Mexico City Building Code. It is concluded that the approach discussed herein is a promising tool for practical structural evaluation of framed structures subjected to large energy demands.

  • This Paper Presents a practical approach to evaluate the reliability indices of electric distribution systems. The use of reliability evaluation is placed with the framework of distribution system planning. In this paper, the reliability model is based on an analytical method, connecting component failure to load point outage each section. five case studies are reported in the paper. These are to study the effect of varying failure rates and repair times on distribution feeders. The results of a study on sample system are presented in this paper.

  • Design factors such as design objects establishment, analysis, synthesis, production, test and evaluation should be educated in a systematic way. Also design ability to reflect practical restrictive conditions such as industrial standards, economic feasibility, environmental impact, aesthetics, safety and reliability, ethical impacts and social impacts should be cultivated. In this paper, we explain the meaning of these terms and propose a systematic engineering design education framework satisfying Korean engineering education accreditation criteria. We also present a simple implementation in information network engineering.

  • The concept of portfolio is rarely understood and used in R&D management field. The conventional management technique in selecting R&D projects is scoring each projects and choosing projects based on the scores which are determined during evaluation. As a collection of good stocks is not necessarily a good stock portfolio, a collection of good R&D projects is not always a good R&D project portfolio. In this paper, framework and practical technique for constructing a R&D project portfolio are introduced. This technique can be easily applied in private and plublic R&D institutes.

  • This study is about quality test of parmament form for practical application. Nowdays domestic building market in the face of 3D, in addition to construction cost increase, materials lack problems and opening a building market to foreign countries, is trying to find out the efficient ways of overcoming these problems. So the efficiacy of form work to technical improvement will contribute a practical permanent form in field through quality test of permmament form. In this paper, we examined the total system of form erections and evaluated the structural permament of columns and beams.

  • In this study, I investigate the critical evaluation elements at the architectural competition of the Rowhousing held nationwide in Germany. These evaluation elements, which can be regarded as the important design evaluation criteria, are selected by the design competition committee. Generally, in Germany the design competition committee consist of professors and famous architects who have theoretical and practical abilities with their own office. I classify and analyze the critical evaluation elements of 95 committee members, working on the selected 9 prize-winners in Germany from 1998 to 2002. I conclude that the critical evaluation elements, ordered by frequency are ; $\circled1$ context, $\circled2$ landscape & outside space, $\circled3$ arrangement of building, $\circled4$ circulation, $\circled5$ organization of plan, $\circled6$ economic aspects, $\circled7$ orientation of building, $\circled8$ parking, $\circled9$organization of form, $\circled10$ natural light. These design evaluation criteria for the Rowhousing in Germany also can apply to the korean case.

  • This paper presents the evaluation model which is included in a quantitative evaluation methodology for evaluation processes of validity and effectiveness of information budget investment and improving conformance of ROI(Return On Investment). That is, the right efficiency targets of information investment for the development project to GDOC (Government electronic Document Distribution Center), and KPls(Key Performance Indexes) which enable to evaluate objectively effectiveness in the preliminary and post evaluation phases are developed, and then the results were come out by practical investigation study using quantitative evaluation methodology.

  • Phenomenological approach suggests a new dimension in landscape evaluation, which is a contrast to the existing scientific evaluation methods. The characteristics of the phenomenological approach is qualitative, holistic, open, and experiential, whereas that of the scientific approach is quantitative, reductive, closed, and experimental. In phenomenological approach, the average response of a group is not considered as meaningful in landscape evaluation. Instead, the individual response, experience, and feeling are considered as important. In phenomenological approach, people try to see the real world as it is, while scientists tend to simplify the real world in order to handle the complex Phenomena easily. Due to its holistic and qualitative nature, the phenomenological approach has limitations to be a practical landscape evaluation technique. However, recent research demonstrate the possibility of practical phenomenological landscape evaluation technique which is able to satisfy the criteria scientific methods should meet.
