  • A novel architecture to reduce dramatically the coupling length of multimode interference-based couplers (MMICs) is proposed by replacing conventionally designed MMICs by cascaded two-section plasmonic stepped MMICs (PS-MMIC). For the 60% cross power splitting ratio in a stepped-width MMIC, the coupling length of device results in around 42% length reduction. Furthermore, the power splitting ratio and coupling length of plasmonic MMIC just vary around 1~2% along the variation of refractive index. On the contrast, those factors for the variation of MMIC's width strongly vary around 30~40%.

  • The demand for steady and dependable power sources is very high in the field of sustainable energy because of the limited amount of fossil fuels reserves. Among several sustainable alternatives, solar energy may be the most efficient solution because it constitutes the largest renewable energy source. So far, the only practical way to store such large amounts of energy has been to use a chemical energy carrier likewise a fuel. In various solar energy to power conversion systems, the photoelectrochemical (PEC) splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen by the direct use of solar energy is an ideal process. It is a renewable method of hydrogen production integrated with solar energy absorption and water electrolysis using a single photoelectrode. Previous studies on photoelectrode films for PEC water splitting cells have been mainly focused on synthesizing oxide semiconductors with wide band gaps, such as TiO2(3.2eV), WO3(2.8eV), and Fe2O3(2.3eV). Unfortunately, these pristine oxide photoanodes without any catalysts have relatively low photocurrent densities because of the inherent limitation of insufficient visible light absorption due to the wide bandgap. Specifically, there is a tradeoff between high photocurrent and photoelectrochemical corrosion behavior, which is representative of figures of meritf or PEC materials.

  • Synthesizing one-dimensional nanostructures of oxide semiconductors is a promising approach to fabricate highefficiency photoelectrodes for hydrogen production from photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. In this work, vertically aligned zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod arrays are successfully synthesized on fluorine-doped-tin-oxide (FTO) coated glass substrate via seed-mediated hydrothermal synthesis method with the use of a ZnO nanoparticle seed layer, which is formed by thermally oxidizing a sputtered Zn metal thin film. The structural, optical and PEC properties of the ZnO nanorod arrays synthesized at varying levels of Zn sputtering power are examined to reveal that the optimum ZnO nanorod array can be obtained at a sputtering power of 20 W. The photocurrent density and the optimal photocurrent conversion efficiency obtained for the optimum ZnO nanorod array photoanode are 0.13 mA/㎠ and 0.49 %, respectively, at a potential of 0.85 V vs. RHE. These results provide a promising avenue to fabricating earth-abundant ZnO-based photoanodes for PEC water oxidation using facile hydrothermal synthesis.

  • This paper introduces a modified Wilkinson power divider that uses uniform transmission lines for various terminated impedances and an arbitrary power ratio. For the designed power ratio, the proposed divider changes only the electrical lengths of the transmission lines between the input and output ports, and those between the output ports and the isolation resistor. In this case, even when various termination impedances of the ports exist, the divider characteristics are satisfied. To verify the feasibility of the proposed divider, two circuits were designed to operate at a frequency of 2 GHz with 2:1 and 4:1 power splitting ratios and various terminated impedances of 40, 70, and $60{\Omega}$ for one circuit, and 50, 70, and $60{\Omega}$ for the other. The measurement and simulation results were in good agreement.

  • Tension stiffening effects of reinforced concrete member with large diameter bar, mainly used at reactor building of nuclear power plant, are studied by uniaxial structural tests. Bond length and stress of steel bar, size of steel bar, and compressive strength of concrete are evaluated to tension stiffening by uniaxial tests. Problems and solution during the uniaxial test are suggested. The prevent splitting cracks, concrete cover-to-bar diameter ratio $c/d_{b}$ is kept 2.6~2.8. Because the bond length is increased as the size of steel bar, the specimen length of the D35 steel bar is required at least 2.0 m. The specimen length must be decided with bond length as well as concrete cover-to-bar diameter ratio to prevent splitting crack.

  • In this paper, we have modeled and fabricated $1{\times}5$ equal power splitter for 1.55${\mu}m$ wavelength using finite-difference beam propagation method and $Ag^+-Na^+$ ion-exchanged method in BK7 glass, respectively. The power splitting ratio could be controlled by changing the center waveguide gap and the inner Y-branch angle. As a result, the power splitting ratio shows 0.46dB when the waveguide width, the inner Y-branch angle and the center waveguide gap are 4.5${\mu}m$, 0.3 degree and 575${\mu}m$, respectively.

  • This paper suggests a class-F power amplifier with split open-end stubs to provide a broadband high-efficiency operation. These stubs are designed to have wide bandwidth by splitting wide open-end stubs into narrower stubs connected in shunt in an output matching network for class-F operation. In contrast to conventional wideband class-F designs, which theoretically need a large number of matching lines, this method requires fewer transmission lines, resulting in a compact circuit implementation. In addition, the open-end stubs are designed with slant ends to achieve additional wide bandwidth. To verify the suggested design, a 10-W class-F power amplifier operating at 1.7 GHz was implemented using a commercial GaN transistor. The measurement results showed a peak drain efficiency of 82.1% and 750 MHz of bandwidth for an efficiency higher than 63%. Additionally, the maximum output power was 14.45 W at 1.7 GHz.

  • As the spectrum shortage problem has accelerated by the emergence of various services, New Radio-Unlicensed (NR-U) has appeared, allowing users who communicated in licensed bands to communicate in unlicensed bands. However, NR-U network users reduce the performance of Wi-Fi network users who communicate in the same unlicensed band. In this paper, we aim to simultaneously maximize the fairness and throughput of the unlicensed band, where the NR-U network users and the WiFi network users coexist. First, we propose an optimal power allocation scheme based on Monte Carlo Policy Gradient of reinforcement learning to maximize the sum of rates of NR-U networks utilizing rate-splitting multiple access in unlicensed bands. Then, we propose a channel occupancy time division algorithm based on sequential Raiffa bargaining solution of game theory that can simultaneously maximize system throughput and fairness for the coexistence of NR-U and WiFi networks in the same unlicensed band. Simulation results show that the rate splitting multiple access shows better performance than the conventional multiple access technology by comparing the sum-rate when the result value is finally converged under the same transmission power. In addition, we compare the data transfer amount and fairness of NR-U network users, WiFi network users, and total system, and prove that the channel occupancy time division algorithm based on sequential Raiffa bargaining solution of this paper satisfies throughput and fairness at the same time than other algorithms.

  • To supply precise marketing and differentiated service for the electric power service department, it is very important to predict the customers with high sensitivity of electric power failure. To solve this problem, we propose a novel grouped 𝑙1/2 sparsity constrained logistic regression method for sensitivity assessment of electric power failure. Different from the 𝑙1 norm and k-support norm, the proposed grouped 𝑙1/2 sparsity constrained logistic regression method simultaneously imposes the inter-class information and tighter approximation to the nonconvex 𝑙0 sparsity to exploit multiple correlated attributions for prediction. Firstly, the attributes or factors for predicting the customer sensitivity of power failure are selected from customer sheets, such as customer information, electric consuming information, electrical bill, 95598 work sheet, power failure events, etc. Secondly, all these samples with attributes are clustered into several categories, and samples in the same category are assumed to be sharing similar properties. Then, 𝑙1/2 norm constrained logistic regression model is built to predict the customer's sensitivity of power failure. Alternating direction of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm is finally employed to solve the problem by splitting it into several sub-problems effectively. Experimental results on power electrical dataset with about one million customer data from a province validate that the proposed method has a good prediction accuracy.
