  • Rapid or on-line coal analysis is of great interest in coal industry as it would allow efficient plant operation. Multivariate analysis has been applied to near-infrared(NIR) spectra coal for investigating the relationship between coal properties(%) (moisture, ash, volatile matter, fixed carbon, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur), heating value(kcal/kg) and corresponding near-infrared spectral data. The quantitative analysis was carried out by applying PLS(partial least squares regression) to determine a methodology able to establish a relationship between coal properties and NIR spectral data being applied mathematical pre-treatments for minimizing the physical features of the samples. As a results of the analysis, this technique is able to classify the species of coals and to predict the all coal properties except ash, nitrogen and sulfur. The efficient operation of coal fired power plant is expected owing to real time on-line coal analysis of moisture and heating value.

  • This study aimed to examine the relationship between students' power types and the roles taken by students in school bullying situation. Four types of power relationship were identified by crossing two dimensions of power relationships among students, which are 'possibility of power acquisition,' and 'need for power acquision.' Salmivalli et al.'s(1996) six particpatants' roles taken by individual student were employed as possible roles for students in school bullying situations. Samples of 1822 cases were analyzed to test the relationships. Results showed that control type youth tend to be bullies, assistants of the bullies, or reinforcers of the bullies; both the followers of bullies and the recluse type youth tend to be victims. Surprisingly influential youth did not take any vivid roles in school bullying situations. Implications as well as suggestions were presented.

  • The primary goal of this study is to identify disintegration and reconstruction of the family/kinship structure in the rapidly industrializing urban area, Seoul. For this purpose, detailed data about (1) the value related to the family and kinship (2) the family relationship, especially marital relationship (3) the attitude of divorce and remarriage (4) the characteristics of the social network (5) the family/kin rites and attitude about the rites are gathered. A total of 716 subjects completed structured questionnaires. Major conclusions of the study are as follows: Firstly, most of the respondents are found not to support familism and boy preference, and they show an ambivalence about the child value analyzed by concepts of the cost and reward. Secondly, most of the respondents perceive that marital relationship has been changed toward the direction of increased relative importance of wives' opinion in the decision making process within the family. However, they believe that husbands still have more power than their wives. Respondents also believe that parents have more power than their children. Thirdly, most of the respondents view divorce as an altemative to unhappy marriage. It was also shown that relatively few have negative attitude toward remarriage. Fourthly, the social network of the respondents is characterized by two distinct trends, namely, strong parent-child ties and narrowed kin relationship. Fifthly, the urbanization and the introduction of western life style have disrupted the traditional rites of passage. But ancestral rites serve to confirm family ties, especially the gathering of siblings to perform ancestral rites for parents. Therefore foreign element exist in parallel with pre-existing traditional elements.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship power distribution among several blockholders (contestability) and firm performance. We use a sample of 646 firms listed in the security markets of Korea from 2005 to 2007. Using different measures of contestability, we verify advance research literature by examining that, when power dispersion among several blockholders (contestability) increases, firm performance is enhanced. The results show that, when the possibility of a controlling coalition being formed among several blocks increases, the corporate value decreases. We also find that this relationship is even more significant in KOSDAQ. However, the smaller the competition of voting rights among blockholders, the higher the corporate performance in KOSPI. The reason for this seems to be that the two markets are different in terms of ownership and governance. This suggests that the effects of contestability among blockholders on firm performance depend on the type of the stock market. The results of this study expand the existing governance literature by analyzing the relationship between contestability among blockholders and firm performance in emerging markets such as Korea. Our findings contribute to policymakers and investors who are interested in the relationship between contestability of control and firm performance in the Korea stock market.

  • This paper analyzes the relationship between income distribution and energy consumption from a Pareto optimal approach. For this purpose, the causality relationship between electricity consumption per capita (kWh) with respect to country groups and energy consumption per capita (kg of oil equivalent) along with gross domestic product per capita was analyzed. In addition to this purpose, a Pareto analysis was conducted to determine the countries with the highest per capita national income, how much of the world total energy they consume, and whether the law of power in the energy and electricity markets exists. Finally, the impact of official development assistance provided to low-income countries by high-income countries on the low-income countries' electricity and energy consumption was analyzed. In other words, it was questioned whether pareto redistribution policies serve the purpose or not. The Engle-Granger causality approach was used in the analysis of the causality relationship between variables. Our analysis indicated that, first, the energy data of the country groups may be inadequate in revealing income inequalities. Second, the existence of Pareto law of power and global income inequality can be explained based on energy data. Finally, Pareto optimal redistribution policies to eliminate income inequality remain inadequate in practice.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify mediated effect of health, economic power and family relationship characteristics on their subjective awareness of health. Data used for analysis was research on the actual condition conducted by Korea Welfare Panel Study(2013). Data used in this study was collected from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. Answers of 3,976 people were used in the final analysis. Hierarchial regression analysis was conducted to verify variables. SPSS21.0 were used as statistics program. showed that retirees' subjective health condition, whether to own house, living expense and family relationship characteristics have an influence on their life satisfaction. Analysis revealed that retirees' has a partial mediated effect on path which influences life satisfaction. That retirees' health has a partial mediated effect proves that the better retirees' health, economic power and family relationship characteristics are, the higher retirees' subjective awareness of health is. In addition, that retirees' subjective awareness of health has a partial mediated effect proves that retirees' health, economic power and family relationship characteristics draw higher path through retirees' subjective awareness of health. This study is significant in that it proved that retirees' health, economic power and family relationship characteristics are related to retirees' subjective awareness of health and provide data which is useful in preparing ways to improve retirees' health.

  • It is required to derive various conclusions by identifying the type of power and the relationship between SCMs and presenting practical implications. Thus, we can identify the differential effects of each type of power on SCM performance. We can contribute to develop the practical implications at more sophisticated multi-dimension by comparing results of this study with various SCM theories. Through previous studies, the source of power is largely divided into binding power and non-binding power. Binding power is classified into behavior coercion, binding reward and relationship legitimacy. Non-binding power is classified into work expertise, information superiority and value compliance. Enterprises should fully understand and recognize partners within supply chains including understanding of the source of power, imbalance and results. Thus, we look into types of power and effects on trust and commitment, and identify a causal relationship leading to collaboration and SCM performance. Specific research results are as follows. First, the binding power did not give a significant effect to the trust. However, the binding power gave a positively(+) significant effect to the commitment. Second, non-binding power showed a significant effect on both trust and commitment. As a result of analysis on total effects, it was shown that non-binding power gave indirect effects to collaboration and SCM performance. Third, it was shown that both trust and commitment significantly affected collaboration. From the perspectives of social exchange theory and trading cost theory among inter-organizational relationship theory, it may lead to SCM performance of trust, commitment and collaboration. Moreover, it was found that association of each attribute of power led to the significant result. Fourth, it was shown that trust and collaboration significantly affected SCM performance. However, commitment did not directly affect SCM performance, but it indirectly significantly affected SCM performance through collaboration. Proper use of this power can firmly build partnerships between members of the supply chain and induce the improvement on supply chain performance and satisfaction of members.

  • A power amplifier operating at 3.3 V has been developed for CDMA/AMPS dual-mode cellular phones. It consists of linear GaAs power MESFET's, a new gate bias control circuit, and an output matching circuit which prevents the drain terminal of the second MESF from generating the harmonics. The relationship between the intermodulation distortion and the spectral regrowth of the power amplifier has been investigated with gate bias by using the two-tone test method and the adjacent channel leakage power ratio (ACPR) method of CDMA signals. The dissipation power of the power amplifier with a gate bias control circuit is minimized to below 1000 mW in the range of the low power levels while satisfying the ACPR of less than -26 dBc for CDMA mode. The ACPR of the power amplifier is measured to be -33 dBc at a high output power of 26 dBm.

  • This study examines family relationship among North Korean migrant families in early adaptation (approximately, up to $5{\sim}6$ years after arrival in the South). Family cohesion, communication, power relationship, and conflicts and domestic violence among family members were examined by the perceptions of 67 male and female householders and their spouses. In the four areas of family relationship, the subjects have quite positive perceptions and shows no critically significant difference on the perceptions between before and after arrival. However, positive perception on family relationship gradually decreases as the length of time of in the South increases with linear or nonlinear patterns according to subcategories of family relationship. These findings suggest several social work practice implications in resettlement assistance for the North Korean migrant families.
