Development of Creep Properties Evaluation Technique for Steel Weldment of Power Plant (발전설비 강 용접부의 크리프 특성 평가 기술 개발)

  • In the life assessment for plant structural component, the research on deterioration of toughness and material properties occurred in weldments has been considered as very important problems. In general, the microstructures composed in weldments are hugely classified with weld metal(W.M), fusion line(F.L), heat affected zone(HAZ), and base metal(B.M). It has been reported that the creep characteristics on weldments having variable microstructures could be unpredictably changed. Furthermore, it is also known that HAZ adjacent to F.L exhibits the decreased creep strength compared to those in base or weld metals, and promotes the occurrence of Type III and Type IV cracking due to the growth of grains and the coarsening carbides precipitated in ferritic matrix by welding and PWHT processes. However, the lots of works reported up to date on creep damage in power plant components have been mostly conducted on B.M and the creep properties on a localized microstructures in weldments have not as yet been throughly investigated. In this paper, for various microstructures such as coarse grain HAZ(CGHAZ), W.M and B.M in X20CrMoV121 steel weldment, the small punch-creep(SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen(t=0.5mm, 0.25mm) is performed to investigate a possibility for creep characteristics evaluation.

  • Saltation occurs in horizontal flow of solid and gas when the carrier gas velocity is small enough to permit enough to settling of the solid particles within the transport line. So we should examine the pneumatic flow system to lessen the unbured carbon in the power plant. In this paper the saltation velocity was studied on the various solid flow rate in the constant pipe diameter and on the various temperatures of the flow gas. The air velocity in the power plant transport lines was also surveyed in order to compare with the saltation velocity. As the solid flow rate increased in the constant diameter, saltation velocity increased and as the temperater of the flow gas inereased in the transport line, saltation velocity also increased.

  • This study dealt with the properties for fly ash of combined heat power plant and application for concrete industry. For this purpose, fly ash of ulsan combined heat power plant was analyzed for physical and chemical properties and tested the properties of the super flowing concrete. As results of fly ash, contents of SiO2 and Al2O3 in the fly ash of Ulsan were less than those of thermal power plant(Boryung), but contents of CaO were ten times as much as those of Boryung. In order to satisfy the properties of the Super Flowing Concrete using class C fly ash, mixing conditions were determined the optimum water-binder(w/b), volume ratio of fine aggregates(Sr) and coarse aggregates(Gv).

  • Kyoto Protocol against global warming came into effect in Feb 2005. This paper presents a calculation $CO_2$ emission of D power plant for combusting LNG and heavy oil using the a, b, c coefficients obtained by the performance test. The authors also calculate the breakeven point of the fuel transfer from LNG to Oil considering recent $CO_2$ emission cost.

  • With the increasing demands for clean environment, development of air cleaning systems has been received increasing attention. One of the key technologies in the electrostatic precipitator (EP) is high voltage pulsed power supply, which affects the performance of the overall system. In this study, a high voltage microsecond pulse power supply for the EP is developed for 500MW coal power plants. The power supply has dc source and a pulsed one. The ratings of the dc and the pulse source are 60kV, 800mA and 70kV, 400mA, respectively. The width of pulse voltage is 140us and the max. pulse repetition frequency is 200Hz.

Characteristics of Zooplankton Community in the Coastal Waters of Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant, East Sea of Korea (월성원자력발전소 주변 해역 동물플랑크톤의 군집 특성)

  • A total of 63 taxa was identified with a mean abundance of total zooplankton ranging from 85~28,087 indiv.$m^{-3}$. Cluster and nMDS analysis showed that the study sites could be divided into two regions: North and East part of the sampling area (group A) and South part of the sampling area (group B). The number of taxa and species varied significantly among the two regions (ANOVA, p<0.05). The pattern of the spatio-temporal distribution of the zooplankton community in the coastal waters around the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant is affected by the variations of seasonal water temperature. However, zooplankton community were no significant between the water temperature and heated discharge.

  • Air heater used in power plant helps increase the thermal efficiency of the boiler by recovering the heat from the boiler flue gas and thus preventing the loss of useful heat. This study investigates the effect of preventive maintenance on the performance of the air heater in a power plant. Performance indexes for the air heater are calculated to observe the changes in the performance and operation status of the air heater before and after preventive maintenance. The major performance indexes considered are temperature efficiency of the flue gas side, air leakage rate, heat recovery rate, heat transmission rate, and heat capacity ratio. The performance of the air heater is evaluated before and after preventive maintenance; our results show that all the abovementioned performance indexes are improved after the maintenance.

  • Boiler is one of the most important utilities providing steam to turbine in order to supply mechanical energy in thermal power plant. It is composed of thousands of tubes for high efficient heat transfer. The material for boiler tubes is used in such high temperature and pressure condition as $540^{\circ}C$, 22MPa. The boiler tube material is required to resist creep damage, fatigue cracking, and corrosion damages. 2.25%Cr-1Mo steel is used for conventional boiler tubes, and austenitenite stainless steel is used for higher temperature boiler tubes. But the temperature and pressure of steam in power plant became higher for high plant efficiency. So, the property of boiler tube material must be upgaded to fit the plant property. Several boiler tube material was developed to fit such conditions. X20CrMoV12.1 steel is also developed in 1980's and used for superheater and reheater tubes in supercritical boilers. The material has martensite microstructures which is difficult to evaluate the degradation. In this thesis, degrade the X20CrMoV12.1 steel at high temperatures in electric furnace, and evaluate hardness with Vickers hardness tester and strengths with Indentation tester.

  • Turbo-charger noise radiated from air intake part is one of the most important noise sources in diesel power plant. In this paper, intake noise control of the diesel power plant was studied using parallel baffle type silencer and concentric hole-cavity resonator simultaneously. Firstly, acoustical characteristics and attenuation performance for parallel baffle type silencer were investigated through theoretical approach and experimental method. Based on the results, optimal design of the parallel baffle silencer was suggested. Secondly, for reducing the low frequency noise contained in the intake noise, the concentric hole-type resonator was developed and the acoustic performance was verified from the test. By combining two types of silencers, it is expected that the overall insertion loss is about 50 dB. So, the combined silencer is very helpful in reducing the intake noise of diesel power plant.

  • Human-induced initiating events, also called Category B actions in human reliability analysis, are operator actions that may lead directly to initiating events. Most conventional probabilistic safety analyses typically assume that the frequency of initiating events also includes the probability of human-induced initiating events. However, some regulatory documents require Category B actions to be specifically analyzed and quantified in probabilistic safety analysis. An explicit modeling of Category B actions could also potentially lead to important insights into human performance in terms of safety. However, there is no standard procedure to identify Category B actions. This paper describes a systematic procedure to identify Category B actions for low power and shutdown conditions. The procedure includes several steps to determine operator actions that may lead to initiating events in the low power and shutdown stages. These steps are the selection of initiating events, the selection of systems or components, the screening of unlikely operating actions, and the quantification of initiating events. The procedure also provides the detailed instruction for each step, such as operator's action, information required, screening rules, and the outputs. Finally, the applicability of the suggested approach is also investigated by application to a plant example.
