  • Power requirement to the induction heating system varies during the heating process. A closed loop control is required to have a smooth control over the power. In this work, a constant frequency pulse density modulation based power tracking control scheme for domestic induction heating system is developed using the Fuzzy Logic Controller. In the conventional power modulation schemes, the switching losses increase with the change in the load. The proposed pulse density modulation scheme maintains minimum switching losses for the entire load range. This scheme is implemented for the class-D series resonant inverter system. Fuzzy logic controller based power tracking control scheme is developed for domestic induction heating power supply for various power settings. The open loop and closed loop simulation studies are done using the MATLAB/Simulink simulation tool. The control logic is implemented in hardware using the PIC16F877A microcontroller. Fuzzy controller tracks the set power by changing the pulse density of the gate pulses applied to the inverter. The results obtained are used to know the effectiveness of the fuzzy logic controller to achieve the set power.

  • Power quality promotion has received increasing attention because of the wide use of semiconductor devices in recent decades. Reactive power regulation is crucial to ensuring the stable operation of power systems. In this study, a continuous reactive power controller, which is referred to as a parallel-connected magnetic energy recovery switch (MERS), is developed to regulate voltage or power factor in power grids. First, the operating principle is introduced, and a mathematical model is built. Second, a new control method for restraining current harmonics and the peak voltages of capacitors is presented. Using the proposed method, the MERS shows a wide range in terms of reactive power compensation. Finally, the performance of the proposed controller is demonstrated through computer simulations and experiments. Unlike STATCOMs, the proposed controller entails low losses, adopts a small dc capacitor, and offers ease of use.

  • This paper presents the application of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) in order to simultaneous control of power flow and voltage and also damping of Low Frequency Oscillations (LFO) at a Single-Machine Infinite-Bus (SMIB) power system installed with UPFC. PI type controllers are commonly used controllers for UPFC control. But for the sake of some drawbacks of PI type controllers, the scope for finding a better control scheme still remains. In this regard, in this paper the new IP type controllers are considered as UPFC controllers. The parameters of these IP type controllers are tuned using Genetic Algorithms (GA). Also a stabilizer supplementary controller based UPFC is considered for increasing power system damping. To show the ability of IP controllers, this controller is compared with classical PI type controllers. Simulation results emphasis on the better performance of IP controller in comparison with PI controller.

  • As a new control strategy, the Nonlinear PID (NLPID) controller has been introduced successfully in power systems. The controller is free of planting model groundwork during the design procedure and is therefore able to be achieved quite simply. In this paper, a nonlinear PID controller used for a superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) unit connected to a power system is proposed. The purpose of designing such a controller is to improve the stability of the power system in a relatively wide operation range. The design procedure takes into account the active and reactive power cooperative control scheme as well as the simple structure so as to be more apt to practical utilization. Simulation is carried out to investigate the performance of the proposed controller in a high order nonlinear power system model under the. MATLAB environment. The results show satisfactory performance and good robustness of the controller. The feasibility of the controller is testified as well.

  • We have surrounded undesired living noises in our life. One of biggest noises coming out of range hood during cooking in the kitchen. A range hood is one of the most important appliances in the kitchen because it ventilates polluted air out during cooking, and maintains air quality in the kitchen. But current kitchen range hoods bring up some issues; First, the range hoods consume massive amount of standby power not in use condition. Second, current models have designed manual fan operating system with sudden onset of noise with starting. In this paper, we propose an auto control system entire processes from air ventilation to noise reduction. Our system is consist of three parts (Eco-sensors pack, Main Controller and Active Noise Controller); Eco-sensors pack detects air pollution of kitchen areas and sends the detection values to Main Controller. Main Controller determines operation of range hood by detected values. Active Noise Controller is located inside of the range hood. It received starting signals from Main Controller which elicits degrees of polluted air condition and fan operating speed from 1 to 3. Once Active Noise Controller detected the signals, it runs a ventilating fan until new value from Main Controller becomes 0. while the range hood works, A noise cancellation algorithm inside of Active Noise Controller become activated to reduce levels of noise. As a result, the proposed system clearly shows reduction in power consumption include standby power and decreases in levels of noise.

  • A robust controller that combines the merits of the feed-back, feed-forward and model-following control for induction motor drives utilizing field orientation control is designed in this paper. The proposed controller is a two-degrees-offreedom (2DOF) integral plus proportional & rate feedback (I-PD) speed controller combined with a model-following (2DOF I-PD MFC) speed controller. A systematic mathematical procedure is derived to find the parameters of the 2DOF I-PD MFC speed controller according to certain specifications for the drive system. Initially, we start with the I-PD feedback controller design, then we add the feed-forward controller. These two controllers combine to form the 2DOF I-PD speed controller. To realize high dynamic performance for disturbance rejection and set point tracking characterisitics, a MFC controller is designed and added to the 2DOF I-PD controller. This combination is called a 2DOF I-PD MFC speed controller. We then study the effect of the 2DOF I-PD MFC speed controller on the performance of the drive system under different operating conditions. A computer simulation is also run to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller. The results verify that the proposed 2DOF I-PD MFC controller is more accurate and more reliable in the presence of load disturbance and motor parameter variations than a 2DOF I-PD controller without a MFC. Also, the proposed controller grants rapid and accurate responses to the reference model, regardless of whether a load disturbance is imposed or the induction machine parameters vary.

  • This paper discusses the development of a reactive power controller using digital signal processing. Digital Signal Processing is the technique of using digital devices to Process continuous signals or data, often in real-time. And DSP algorithms are associated with a discrete time interval between input samples. When one designs a digital filter, one can use a Laplace transform to determine the continuous time frequency response. The corresponding discrete time transform is called Z transform and depends upon discrete samples of the input spaced equally in time. The objectives of this paper are to minimize real power losses and improve the power factor of a given system. Also, the implementation of a direct-form non recursive filter on the TMS320C31 has been described. The application of this microprocessor-based controller using DSP on test system reveals its numerous advantages. Performance and features of the controller for the reactive power control are analyzed.

  • In this paper, an intelligent control scheme based on Fuzzy PID controller is proposed for accurate power sharing in DC Microgrid. The proposed Fuzzy PID controller is designed with the aid of a closed loop control based on per unit power of each distributed generator (DG), and accurate power sharing is successfully realized in proportional to each DG's power rating regardless of the line resistance difference or the load change. Thanks to Fuzzy PID controller, the dynamic response becomes faster and the stability of the microgrid system are improved in comparison to conventional PID controller. The superiority of the proposed method is analyzed and verified by simulation in Matlab and Simulink.

  • In this study, a fractional order proportional integral derivative (FOPID) controller is designed to create the reference power trajectory and to conquer the uncertainties and external disturbances. A fractional nonlinear model was utilized to describe the nuclear reactor dynamic behaviour considering thermal-hydraulic effects. The controller parameters were tuned using optimization method in Matlab/Simulink. The FOPID controller was simulated using Matlab/Simulink and the controller performance was evaluated for Hard variation of the reference power and compared with that of integer order a proportional integral derivative (IOPID) controller by two models of fractional neutron point kinetic (FNPK) and classical neutron point kinetic (CNPK). Also, the FOPID controller robustness was appraised against the external disturbance and uncertainties. Simulation results showed that the FOPID controller has the faster response of the control attempt signal and the smaller tracking error with respect to the IOPID in tracking the reference power trajectory. In addition, the results demonstrated the ability of FOPID controller in disturbance rejection and exhibited the good robustness of controller against uncertainty.
