Novel polymer mold process for fabrication of microcomponents using metal nanopowders was developed and experimentally optimized. Polymer mold for forming green components was produced by using a hard master mold and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). In the preparation of metallic powder premix for the green components without any defect, 90 wt.% 17-4PH statinless steel nanopowders and 10 wt.% organic binder were mixed by a ball milling process. The green components with very clear gear shape were formed by filling the powder premix into the PDMS soft mold in surrounding at about $100^{\circ}C$. Cold isostatic pressing (CIP) was very potent process to decrease a porosity in the sintered microcomponent. The microgear fabricated by the improved process showed a good dimension tolerance of about 1.2%.
This paper investigates the dependency of the critical content for electrical conductivity of carbon powder-filled polymer matrix composites with different matrixes as a function of the carbon powder content (volume fraction) to find the break point of the relationships between the carbon powder content and the electrical conductivity. The electrical conductivity jumps by as much as ten orders of magnitude at the break point. The critical carbon powder content corresponding to the break point in electrical conductivity varies according to the matrix species and tends to increase with an increase in the surface tension of the matrix. In order to explain the dependency of the critical carbon content on the matrix species, a simple equation (${V_c}^*=[1+ 3({{\gamma}_c}^{1/2}-{{\gamma}_m}^{1/2})^2/({\Delta}q_cR]^{-1}$) was derived under some assumptions, the most important of which was that when the interfacial excess energy introduced by particles of carbon powder into the matrix reaches a universal value (${\Delta}q_c$), the particles of carbon powder begin to coagulate so as to avoid any further increase in the energy and to form networks that facilitate electrical conduction. The equation well explains the dependency through surface tension, surface tensions between the particles of carbon powder.
Development of an effective liner by utilization of the tailings frm the Imcheon mine and polymer has been tried. The tailings piled in the Imcheon mine, whose true specific gravity is about 2.86, are composed mainly of quartz, alkali-feldspar, muscovite and pyrite, and mostly (93.7% in volume) coarser than sand grain size (50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). Strength, leaching and permeability tests have been performed on the test specimens of polymer concrete manufactured with various mixing proportions of tailings, unsaturated polyester resins(UPR), calcium carbonates, stone powder sludges and granite soils. Polymer concrete specimens with stone powder sludges or granite soils as fillers and aggregates indicate 2.5 to 3 fold higher flexural and compressive strengths and lower permeabilities than those with calcium carbonates, which shows their usability as a waterproof liner. Also, the polymer concrete liner with stone powder sludge fillers is more advisable in aspects of utilization of waste sludges than that with other fillers.

This study was conducted to investigate experimentally the drying shrinkage and the strength properties of redispersible SBR and PAE powder-modified mortars. Polymer-cement ratio, content of shrinkage-reducing agent and antifoamer content were manipulated as the experimental variables. The peculiarity of this study is to obtain a high early-age strength by using the portland cement and alumina cement with the ratio of 8 : 2. Until 7 days of age, the drying shrinkage remarkably increased up to $1\~2\times10^{-4}$, while it tended to decrease as the ratio of polymer to cement ratio and the content of shrinkage-reducing agent increased. Polymer-cement ratio was effective in improving the flexural, tensile and adhesive strengths: As the ratio increased, the strengths correspondingly increased. The flexural strength was in the range of $7\~11$ MPa, the tensile strength was $3.5\~5$ MPa and the adhesive strength was $1.2\~3.9$ MPa. On the other hand, the compressive strength tended to decrease as the polymer-cement ratio increased, and it was in the range of $23\~39$ MPa. All strengths, flexural, tensile, adhesive and compressive strengths, decreased as the content of powder shrinkage-reducing agent increased. It turned out that the polymer-cement ratio influenced more on the behavior of drying shrinkage and the properties of strength than the powder shrinkage-reducing agent did.

Various approaches have been proposed to increase the green density. Warm compaction method has been used for the reduction of residual stress, the improvement of magnetic properties and the higher densities. In this work, the effect of warm compaction on green density of Fe powder was investigated. After ball-milling of Fe oxide powder for 30 hours, Fe oxide powder was reduced through the hydrogen reduction process. The pure Fe powder and polymer binder were mixed by 3-D tubular mixer. And then the mixed powder was warm-compacted with various compaction pressure and binder contents. The green density of specimen was added polyvinyl binder was higher than any other specimens.

In this study, we prepare polymer solar cells incorporating organic ligand-modified Ag nanoparticles (O-AgNPs) highly dispersed in the P3HT:PCBM layer. Ag nanoparticles decorated with water-dispersible ligands (WAgNPs) were also utilized as a control sample. The existence of the ligands on the Ag surface was confirmed by FT-IR spectra. Metal nanoparticles with different surface chemistries exhibited different dispersion tendencies. O-AgNPs were highly dispersed even at high concentrations, whereas W-AgNPs exhibited significant aggregation in the polymer layer. Both dispersion and blending concentration of the Ag nanoparticles in P3HT:PCBM matrix had critical effects on the device performance as well as light absorption. The significant changes in short-circuit current density ($J_{SC}$) of the solar cells seemed to be related to the change in the polymer morphology according to the concentration of AgNPs introduced. These findings suggested the importance of uniform dispersion of plasmonic metal nanoparticles and their blending concentration conditions in order to boost the solar cell performance.

Admixture compounds for reducing setting time and accelerating early strength development of redispersible polymer powder-modified mortars were made by mixing various inorganic accelerating inorganic materials. Redispersible polymer powder-modified mortars are prepared with various accelerator contents, and it was tested for setting time, flexural and compressive strengths. As a result, the accelerators contribute to strength development of the mortars in the early curing age of 12h or less. In the viewpoint of early strength development of redispersible polymer powder-modified mortars, an accelerator content of $20\%$ is recommended.
The feasibility of recycling wasted printed circuit board (PCB) is investigated by preparing PCB added flame retardant composites filled with either unsaturated polyester or polyurethane. In order to improve electroconductive properties, copper powder was added into the composites, which results also in improving their antistatic properties. The prepared composite samples showed a binding between the polymer fillers observed by a scanning microscope. The sample group using unsaturated polyester is elastomeric that led to appreciable elongation and elasticity. In case of polyurethane, the tensile strength increased proportionally as increase of the amount of PCB powder. The composite materials can be utilized as antistatic composite materials, since the surface resistivity result showed increase of the electroconductive properties by adding Cu. The flammability of the samples is not satisfactory according to UL-94 vertical test. However, the flame retardant properties were improved by adding PCB power. This study, therefore, showed that it is feasible to fabricate polymer composite materials and improve the material characteristics by adding PCB powder, which can replace existing additives used for the preparation of polymer composite materials and can reduce the environment contamination by recycling the wasted PCB.
Macroporous silicon carbide (SiC) ceramics were fabricated by powder processing and polymer processing using carbon-filled polysiloxane as a precursor. The effects of the starting SiC polytype, template type, and template content on porosity and flexural strength of macroporous SiC ceramics were investigated. The ${\beta}$-SiC powder as a starting material or a filler led to higher porosity than ${\alpha}$-SiC powder, owing to the impingement of growing ${\alpha}$-SiC grains, which were transformed from ${\beta}$-SiC during sintering. Typical flexural strength of powder-processed macroporous SiC ceramics fabricated from ${\alpha}$-SiC starting powder and polymer microbeads was 127 MPa at 29% porosity. In contrast, that of polymer-processed macroporous SiC ceramics fabricated from carbon-filled polysiloxane, ${\beta}$-SiC fillers, and hollow microspheres was 116MPa at 29% porosity. The combination of ${\alpha}$-SiC starting powder and a fairly large amount (10 wt%) of $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3$ additives led to macroporous SiC ceramics with excellent flexural strength.
In this study, Ti powder/Polymer concrete composites were processed by adding the PZT powder, one of the piezoelectric materials, to improve the vibration damping effect of Polymer concrete. Ti powder was added at a constant ratio in order to maximize the vibration damping effect using the piezoelectric effect. Three types of composite material specimens were prepared: a specimen without PZT powder, specimens with 2.5 wt% and 5 wt% of PZT powder. The vibration characteristics and compression properties were analyzed for all specimens. As a result, it was confirmed that as the addition ratio of PZT powder increased, the Inertance value at the resonant frequency decreased due to the piezoelectric effect when the vibration generated from Ti powder/polymer concrete was transmitted. Especially, the Inertance value was decreased by about 19.3% compared to the specimen without PZT at the resonant frequency. The change in acceleration with time also significantly decreased as PZT powder was added, confirming the effect of PZT addition. In addition, through the compression strength test, it was found that the degree of deterioration in compression properties due to the addition of PZT up to 5 wt% was insignificant, and it was confirmed that the powder was evenly dispersed in the composites through the cross-sectional analysis of the specimen.
