Furnace slag powder used currently in Korea needs to add special functions in response to the increase of large-scale projects. In addition, it is advantageous in that it has a lower hydration heat emission rate than ordinary Portland cement and improves properties such as the inhibition of alkali aggregate reaction, watertightness, salt proofness, seawater resistance and chemical resistance. However, furnace slag powder is not self -hardening, and requires activators such as alkali for hydration. Accordingly, if recycled fine aggregate, from which calcium hydroxide is generated, and furnace slag, which requires alkali stimulation, are used together they play mutually complementary roles, so we expect to use the mixture as a resource-recycling construction material. Thus the present study purposed to examine the properties and characteristics of furnace slag powder and recycled aggregate, to manufacture recycled fine aggregate concrete using furnace slag and analyze its performance based on the results of an experiment, to provide materials on concrete using furnace slag as a cement additive and recycled fine aggregate as a substitute of aggregate, and ultimately to provide basic materials on the manufacturing of resource-recycled construction materials using binder and fine aggregate as recycled resources.
This study was performed to find the optimum ratio of ingredients for the manufacture of kiwifruit jam. The experiment was designed according to the D-optimal design of RSM (response surface methodology), which included 18 experimental points with 4 replicates for three independent variables (sugar $35{\sim}60%$, pectin $0.1{\sim}1.0.%$, kiwifruit paste $0.37{\sim}0.90%$). The compositional and functional properties of the prepared products were measured, and these values were applied to mathematical models. A canonical form and trace plot showed the influence of each variable on the quality attributes of the final product mixture. By use of the F-test, viscosity, color values (L, a, b), and sensory characteristics (color) were expressed by a linear model, while the L color value and select sensory characteristics (smell, taste, overall acceptance) were also expressed by a quadratic model. The optimum formulations by the numerical and graphical methods, were similar, and with the numerical method it presented as: sugar, pectin, and barley sproutling powder at 49.7%, 0.5%, and 0.6%, respectively. The above results demonstrate the feasibility of preparing kiwifruit jam added with barley sproutling powder, and therefore, the commercialization of a kiwifruit jam marketed as a functional food is deemed possible.
An optimum route to fabricate the $A1_2O_3/Fe-Ni$ alloy nanocomposites with sound microstructure and enhanced mechanical properties as well as magnetism was investigated. To prepare homogeneous nanocomposite powders of Fe-Ni alloy and $Al_2O_3$, the solution-chemistry routes using $Al_2O_3 \; Ni(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and $Fe(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ powders were applied. Microstructural observation of the powder mixture revealed that the Fe-Ni alloy particles of about 20 nm in size were homogeneously surrounded $A1_2O_3$, forming nanocomposite powder. The hot-pressed composite showed improved fracture toughness and magnetic response. These results suggest that the synergy materials with an improved mechanical properties and excellent functionality can be fabricated by controlled powder preparation and consolidation processing.

The Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles were ball-milled and subsequently compacted and sintered at various temperatures, resulting in the TiC particle-reinforced Fe self-fluxing alloy hybrid composite, and the microstructure and micro-hardness were investigated. The initial Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles showed the spherical shape with a mean size of approximately 80 ${\mu}m$ and the irregular shape of less than 5 ${\mu}m$, respectively. After ball-milling at 800 rpm for 5 h, the powder mixture of Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles formed into the agglomerated powders with the size of approximately 10 ${\mu}m$ that was composed of the nanosized TiC particles and nano-sized alloy particles. The TiC particle-reinforced Fe-based self-fluxing alloy hybrid composite sintered at 1173 K revealed a much denser microstructure and higher micro-hardness than that sintered at 1073 K and 1273 K.
Cu-Ni alloys with unidirectionally aligned pores were prepared by freeze-drying process of CuO-NiO/camphene slurry. Camphene slurries with dispersion stability by the addition of oligomeric polyester were frozen at $-25^{\circ}C$, and pores in the frozen specimens were generated by sublimation of the camphene during drying in air. The green bodies were hydrogen-reduced at $300^{\circ}C$ and sintered at $850^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that CuO-NiO composite powders were completely converted to Cu-Ni alloy without any reaction phases by hydrogen reduction. The sintered samples showed large and aligned parallel pores to the camphene growth direction, and small pores in the internal wall of large pores. The pore size and porosity decreased with increase in CuO-NiO content from 5 to 10 vol%. The change of pore characteristics was explained by the degree of powder rearrangement in slurry and the accumulation behavior of powders in the interdendritic spaces of solidified camphene.
The tungsten disulfide $(WS_2)$ solid lubricant was synthesized by two different reaction processes, i.e., the reaction between $CS_2$ gas phase and solid $WO_3$powder, and the vapour phase transport method of tungsten and sulfur in a high vacuum. The chemical and physical characteristics of synthesized $WS_2$powder were analyzed in terms of the average particle size, morphology, crystalline phase etc. in comparison with those of commercial $WS_2$powder. The solid $WO_3$ powder with the average size of 0.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ was reacted with $CS_2$gas flowed with$N_2$or 96%$N_2{\times}4%H_2$forming gas for 36 h and 24 h at 90$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. $WS_2$ crystalline phase was then formed through the intermediate phase of .$W_{20}O_{58}$ In the case of vapour phase transport method, the 3.5 wt% iodine was added as a vapour transport reagent into the composition of tungsten and sulfur powders maintaining a constant molar ratio of W:S=1:2.2. The mixture was then heat treated at 85$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 weeks in vacuum. The reaction product obtained showed the average size of 12 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and the hexagonal plate shape of typical solid lubricant with 2H-$WS_2$crystalline phase.
The preparation of $TiC_{0.7}N_{0.3}$ powder by SHS in the system of $Ti-TiH_2-C$ ($N_2$ atmosphere) was investigated in this study. In the preparation of $TiC_{0.7}N_{0.3}$ powder, the effect of gas pressure, compositions such as Ti, $TiH_2$, C, and additive in mixture on the reactivity were investigated. At 50 atm of the initial inert gas pressure in reactor, the optimum composition for the preparation of pure $TiC_{0.7}N_{0.3}$ was $0.75Ti+0.25TiH_2+0.7C+0.5NaCl$. The $TiC_{0.7}N_{0.3}$ powder synthesized in this condition was a single phase with irregular shape.
$BaCe_{0.9}Gd_{0.1_O_{2.95}$ powder was synthesized by oxalate coprecipitation method. Precipitate with a stoichimetric ratio of the cations was prepared by adding a mixture of Ba, Ce and Gd nitrate solution to an oxalic acid solution at pH 4. Reaction between the constituent oxides to form a perovskite phase was initiated at $800^{\circ}C$ and a single phase $BaCe_{0.9}Gd_{0.1_O_{2.95}$ powder having good sinterability was obtained after calcination at $1000^{\circ}C$. Sintering green compacts of this powder for 6 h showed a considerable densification to start at $1100^{\circ}C$ and resulted in 93% and 97% relative densities at $1300^{\circ}$ and at $1450^{\circ}C$, respectively. Whereas the power compacts prepared by solid state reaction had lower relative densities, 78% at $1300^{\circ}$and 90% at $1450^{\circ}C$. Fine particles of $CeO_2$ second phase were observed in the surface of the sintered compacts. This was attributed to the evaporation of BaO from the surface that had been exposed during thermal etching.
As the cycling time of new products have become more and more short in recent years, the demand for lowering the cost and reducing the production time becomes stronger. In order for the demand, the rapid prototyping and rapid tooling technology have been used. It has been widely known that RP technology has advantages with fabricating 3-D object having a complicated geometric shape. RP products, however, have a limitation with applying to the real die and mold because soft materials such as resin, paper and wax has been mostly used in RP technology. So in this paper, the RP products have been copied to semi-metallic soft tools using the mixture of metal fillers and epoxy resin. In order to evaluate the effect of the fillers on the characteristics of semi-metallic soft tools, three fillers are used including commercial aluminum powder, cast iron powder recycled by machining chips, and aluminum short fiber made by self-excited vibration technique. Besides, in the case of aluminum powder, the change of characteristics of semi-metallic soft tools is also tested according to the volume fraction of the powder.
Al2O3$.$SiC particle was prepared was prepared by the self-propagting high temperature sYthesis(SHS) process from a mixture of SiO2, Al and C powders, The fabricated Al2O3$.$SiC particle was applied to 2024Al/(Al2O3$.$SiC)pcomposite as a reinforcement. Aluminum matix composites were fabricares by the powder extrusion method using the synthesized Al2O3$.$SiC particle and commercial 2024Al powder. Theoptimum preparation conditions for Al2O3$.$SiC partticle by SHS process were described. The influence of the Al2O3$.$SiC voiume fraction on the mechanical was composite was also discussed. Despite adiabatic temperature was about 2367K, SHs reaction was completed not by itself, but by using pre-heating. Mean particle size of final particle synthesized was 0.73 ${\mu}$m and most of the particle was smaller than 2${\mu}$m. Elastic modulus and tensile strength of the composite increased with increase the volume fraction of reinforcement but, tensile strength depreciated at 30 vol% of reinforcement.
