MONTE-CARLO SIMULATION OF NEUTRON STAR ORBITS IN THE GALAXY

  • In this paper, the numerical results concerning different orbits of a 3D axisymmetric non-rotating galactic potential are presented. We use $Paczy{\acute{n}}ski^{\prime}s$ gravitational potential with different birth velocity distributions for the isolated old Neutron Star (NS) population. We note some smooth non-constant segments corresponding to regular orbits as well as the characterization of their chaoticity. This is strongly related to the effect of different kick velocities due to supernovae mass-loss and natal kicks to the newly-formed NS. We further confirm that the dynamical motion of the isolated old NSs in the gravitational field becomes obvious, with some significant diffraction in the symmetry of their orbital characteristics.

  • We prove that a semi-symmetric 3-dimensional gradient Ricci soliton is locally isometric to a space form $\mathbb{S}^3$, $\mathbb{H}^3$, $\mathbb{R}^3$ (Gaussian soliton); or a product space $\mathbb{R}{\times}\mathbb{S}^2$, $\mathbb{R}{\times}\mathbb{H}^2$, where the potential function depends only on the nullity.

  • Computational technique, based on the minimization of the crystal energy with respect to atomic coordinates, are shown to reproduce successfully complex crystal structure, in this case, strontium hexaaluminate magnetoplumbite, SrAl/sub 12/O/sub 19/. The experimental crystal structure and symmetry of the complex material is well reproduced with our potential models and some crystal physical properties are calculated.

  • Objective: This study aimed to examine the effects of real-time visual feedback gait training on gait stability in older adults. Method: Twelve older adults participated in this study, being divided into 2 groups including a) visual feedback (VF) and b) non-visual feedback (NVF) groups. For 4 weeks, VF performed a treadmill walking training with real-time visual feedback about their postural information while NVF performed a normal treadmill walking training. For evaluations of gait stability, kinematic data of 15-minute treadmill walking were collected from depth-based motion capture system (30 Hz, exbody, Korea). Given that step lengths in both right and left sides were determined based on kinematic data, three variables including step difference, coefficient of variation, approximate entropy were calculated to evaluate gait symmetry, variability and complexity, respectively. Results: For research findings, VF exhibited significant improvements in gait stability after 4-week training in comparison to NVF, particularly in gait symmetry and complexity measures. However, greater improvement in gait variability was observed in NVF than VF. Conclusion: Given that visual feedback walking gives potential effectiveness on gait stability in older adults, gait training with visual feedback may be a robust therapeutic intervention in people with gait disturbances like instability or falls.

Photodissociation Dynamics of C2H4BrCl: Nonadiabatic Dynamics with Intrinsic Cs Symmetry

  • The photodissociation dynamics of 1,2-bromochloroethane ($C_2H_4BrCl$) was investigated near 234 nm. A two-dimensional photofragment ion-imaging technique coupled with a [2+1] resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization scheme was utilized to obtain speed and angular distributions of the nascent Br($^2P_{3/2}$) and Br${\ast}($^2P_{1/2}$) atoms. The total translational energy distributions for the Br and Br${\ast}$ channels were well characterized by Gaussian functions with average translational energies of 100 and 84 kJ/mol, respectively. The recoil anisotropies for the Br and Br${\ast}$ channels were measured to be ${\beta}$ = 0.49 ${\pm}$ 0.05 for Br and 1.55 ${\pm}$ 0.05 for Br${\ast}$. The relative quantum yield for Br${\ast}$ was found to be ${\Phi}_{Br{\ast}}$ = 0.33 ${\pm}$ 0.03. The probability of nonadiabatic transition between A' states was estimated to be 0.46. The relevant nonadiabatic dynamics is discussed in terms of interaction between potential energy surfaces in Cs symmetry.

Recognizing asymmetric moire patterns for human spinal deformity detection

  • Recently, the number of techniques for analyzing medical images has been increasing in computer vision, employing X-ray CT images, ultrasound images, MR images, moire topographic images, etc. Spinal deformity is a serious problem especially for teenagers and medical doctors inspect moire topographic images of their backs visually for the primary screening. If a subject is normal, the moire image is almost symmetric with respect to the middle line of the subject's back, otherwise it shows asymmetric shape. In this paper, an image analysis technique is described for discriminating suspicious cases from normal in human spinal deformity by recognizing asymmetric moire images of human backs. The principal axes which are sensitive to asymmetry of the moire image are extracted at two parts on a subject's back and their angles are evaluated with respect to the detected middle line of the back. The two angles compose a 2-D feature space and inspected cases are divided into two clusters in the space by a linear discriminant function based on the Mahalanobis distance. Given 120 cases, 60 normal and 60 abnormal, the leave-out method was applied for the recognition and 75% recognition rate was achieved.

Andreev reflection in metal- and ferromagnet-d-wave superconductor tunnel Junction

  • We report on the influence of d-wave pairing symmetry in high-T$_c$ superconductor by tunneling spectroscopy. The zerobias conductance peak(ZBCP) which is produced by tunneling through the ab-plane is observed on both of metal Au/YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_y$(N/S) tunnel junctions and ferromagnet Co/Au/ YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_y$(F/N/S) tunnel junctions. The effects of Andreev reflection on the differential conductance of each junctions are dependent on the tunnel direction. For the S/N/F junction, it appears the suppression of the ZBCP due to the suppression of Andreev reflection at the interface between a ferromagnetic material and a d-wave superconductor. By comparing these experimental results with recent theoretical works on Andreev reflection, the existence of Andreev bound state is verified in high-T$_c$ superconductor, due to the d-wave symmetry of the pair potential.

  • Piezoelastic materials have recently attracted considerable attention because of their potential use in intelligent structural systems. In this paper, we treat a transient piezothermoelastic problem in a hexagonal plate of crystal class 6mm subjected to antisymmetric heating temperature. We analyze this problem by use of the potential function method. Numerical calculations are carried out for a cadmium selenide solid, and the results are presented graphically in comparison with those derived from the similar problem in a cadmium selenide plate subjected to symmetric heating temperature for a symmetry transient problem.

학생들의 근접발달영역(ZPD)에 대한 탐구 (How to Investigate Students' Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD))

  • 본 연구는 실제적 발단과 잠재적 발달간의 거리, 즉 근접발달영역의 특징들을 조사하는 것이다. 선시험과 후시험이 18명의 대학생들을 대상으로 실시되었으며 반힐레 수준 이론을 통해 실제적 발달이 같은 두 학생이 잠재적 발달 조사를 위해 선발되었다. 인지-의사소통이론을 바탕으로 삼차원 면대칭에 대한 두 학생의 담화 특징들을 확인하였다. 잠재적 발달 조사결과 두 학생사이에 상당한 차이가 있었다. 수학교육연구에서 학생들의 근접발달영역을 조사하기위한 연구방법론적 시사점을 제안한다.
