  • This study was to provide the fundamental data for a scientific and rational clothing construction by investigating the length variation of the upper arm surface, using the method of surgical tape, and to understand the expansion and contraction of parts of body for the making of clothing adaptable to movement. The subjects were li early elementary schoolgirls in Busan area classified with three somatotypes, and arm-movements consisted of 6 types. The statistical analyses used in this study were mean, standard deviation and the ANOVA and LSD procedure. The results of the analysis of the length of the upper arm surface are as follows: By arm-movements, in the items of horizontal, upper arm length changed more in the front than in the back, and in the items of vertical, represented the opposite of horizontal items. In the items of upper arm, the anterior-posterior axilla length and under arm length were influenced by arm-movements, and the under length of the upper arm represented the maximum rate increase of 74.59%(3.20cm)$\sim$138.72%(4.28cm). In the somatotypes of early elementary schoolgirls, type II was more influenced by arm-movements, and for the making of clothing adaptable to movement, type III needed to reflect more surplus length(2cm) than the other types.

  • Acetabular dysplasia is a condition defined by inadequate development of an individual's acetabulum. Individual diversity of the symptoms in this disease needs safe and accurate preoperative planning. Technologies that utilize multidimensional image information are thus important. The assessment method by Janzen et al. was suggested a coefficient method in evaluation of acetabular dysplasia. In this study, we applied it, using a three-dimensional computed tomography (3D CT) on the koreans. 19 cases of the normal hips and 4 cases of the acetabular dysplasia were investigated to evaluate the proved method; 3D CT was used to define the geometric center of the femoral head and to measure center edge angles at $10^{\circ}$ rotational increments around the acetabular rim. Mean and standard deviation in CEAs (Center Edge Angle) of normal 19 hips at $10^{\circ}$ rotational increments from anterior to posterior rim were determined, and termed as a 'normal curve'. Then this normal values were compared with the CEA data measured from 4 cases of acetabular dysplasia patiens. Quantative comparison of the CEA values between the normal cases and dysplasia cases was successfully demonstrated, and thus, we claim that this simple CT method of assessing acetabular dysplasia can be well applicable to diagnosis, quantification and surgical planning for adult acetabular dysplasia patients.

  • Purpose: Probabilistic safety analysis was performed to enhance the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants because traditional deterministic approach has limitations in predicting the risk of failure by crack growth. The study introduces a probabilistic approach to establish a basis for probabilistic safety assessment of passive components. Methods: For probabilistic modeling of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR), various FCGR tests were performed either under constant load amplitude or constant ${\Delta}K$ conditions by using heat treated X-750 at low temperature with adequate cathodic polarization. Bayesian inference was employed to update uncertainties of the FCGR model using additional information obtained from constant ${\Delta}K$ tests. Results: Four steps of Bayesian parameter updating were performed using constant ${\Delta}K$ test results. The standard deviation of the final posterior distribution was decreased by a factor of 10 comparing with that of the prior distribution. Conclusion: The method for developing a probabilistic crack growth model has been designed and demonstrated, in the paper. Alloy X-750 has been used for corrosion fatigue crack growth experiments and modeling. The uncertainties of parameters in the FCGR model were successfully reduced using the Bayesian inference whenever the updating was performed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate and to verification of changes that the effect of treadmill and body weight support treadmill training on balance and gait ability for sub-acute stroke patients during 4 week. Method: 16 subjects who was diagnosed stroke were divided into 2 groups(8-treadmill training group, 8-body weight support treadmill group) by randomized control trial. Both training programs were consisted with 40 minuted, 5 times a week for 4 weeks and after training programs. Analysis: We analysed effects and changes on balance and gait ability. Analyses were performed using PASW ver. 18.0 and results were reported as mean ${\pm}$ standard deviation (S.D.). To investigate within group comparisons and to verification on effects of exercise, we did paired t test and repeated measured ANOVA test. Significance was set at p<.05. Result: Both training programs showed positive changes in Limit of Stability but significant results which is area of hemiside, area of intact side, area of posterior, total area were reported in body weight support treadmill training group. Changes of Berg Balance Scale was significantly increase and it had significant correlation between groups. Changes of 6 Minutes Walking Test was significant increase in both groups but there was no significant changes on Foot print and Romberg test. Conclusion: After considering all factors, both training programs showed effect on improvement of balance and gait ability in sub-acute stroke patients, but body weight support treadmill training group had better improvement in dynamic balance than treadmill training group. For the increase of balance and gait ability in sub-acute stroke patients, we need to continues study on difference of treadmill and body weight support treadmill and then we will give stroke patients a better satisfaction if we develop and provide a rehabilitation program for improvement of balance and gait ability.

  • Background: Fatigue has a strong impact on workers' performance and safety, but expedient methods for assessing fatigue on the job are not yet available. Studies discuss posturography as an indicator of fatigue, but further evidence for its use in the workplace is needed. The purpose of the study is to examine whether posturography is a suitable indicator of fatigue in clerical workers. Methods: Thirty-six employees (${\emptyset}$ 34.8 years, standard deviation = 12.5) participated in postural tasks (eyes open, eyes closed, arm swinging, and dual task) in the morning and afternoon. Position of their center of pressure (COP) was registered using a Nintendo Wii Balance Board and commercial software. From registered COP time series, we calculated the following parameters: path length (mm), velocity (mm/s), anterior-posterior variance (mm), mediolateral variance (mm), and confidence area ($mm^2$). These parameters were reduced to two orthogonal factors in a factor analysis with varimax rotation. Results: Statistical analysis of the first factor (path length and velocity) showed a significant effect of time of day: COP moved along a shorter path at a lower velocity in the afternoon compared with that in the morning. There also was a significant effect of task, but no significant interaction. Conclusion: Data suggest that postural stability of clerical workers was comparable in the morning and afternoon, but COP movement was greater in the morning. Within the framework of dynamic systems theory, this could indicate that the postural system explored the state space in more detail, and thus was more ready to respond to unexpected perturbations in the morning.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture strength of the zirconia monolithic all-ceramic crowns according to the thickness (0.5mm, 0.8mm, 1.1mm) and metal-ceramic crowns (1.0mm, 1.5mm) Material and method: Twelve crowns for each of 3 zirconia crown groups were fabricated using CAD/CAM system (Kavo, Germany) and twelve crowns for each of 2 metal-ceramic crown groups were made by the conventional method. All crowns were luted to the metal dies using resin cement. Half of the specimens were exposed to thermocycling ($5-55^{\circ}C$, 1 Hz) and cyclic loading (300,000 cycles, 50N). Subsequently, all crowns were mounted on the testing jig in a universal testing machine. The load was directed at the center of crown with perpendicular to the long axis of each specimen until catastrophic failure occurred. Analysis of variance and Tukey multiple comparison test (P<.05) were used for statistical analysis of all groups, and paired t-test (P<.05) was followed for statistical comparison between each groups' fracture load before and after cyclic loading. Results: 1. The fracture strength of the zirconia monolithic crowns and the metal-ceramic crown increased as thickness increased (P<.05). 2. The cyclic loading and thermocycling significantly decreased the fracture strength of the zirconia monolithic crowns (P<.05). 3. The standard deviation of fracture strength of the zirconia monolithic crowns was very low. Conclusion: The fracture strength of the zirconia monolithic crowns for the posterior area tends to be higher with thickness increased and 0.8mm or over in thickness is recommended to have similar or over the fracture strength of metal-ceramic crowns.

  • Objective: This prospective clinical study aims to determine the differences between two treatment modalities for anterior open bite in growing patients. The treatment modalities involved the use of magnetic bite-blocks (MBBs) or rapid molar intruders (RMIs) applied with posterior bite-blocks. Methods: Fifteen consecutive patients with a mean age of 11.2 (standard deviation [SD] = 1.6) years and a mean open bite of -3.9 mm were treated with MBBs. Another 15 consecutive patients with a mean age of 10.9 (SD = 1.8) years and a mean open bite of -3.8 mm were treated with RMIs applied on bite-blocks. Cephalometric radiographs were obtained before (T1) and immediately after appliance removal (T2). The treatments lasted four months, during which the appliances were cemented to the teeth. The morphological changes were measured in each group and compared using logistic regression analysis. Results: The MBB group exhibited significantly greater decreases in SNA angle, ANB angle, overjet, and maxillary incisor angle (p < 0.05). The MBBs induced greater effects on the maxilla and maxillary dentition. The MBBs restrained maxillary forward growth and retracted the maxillary incisors more effectively than did the RMIs. Consequently, changes in the intermaxillary relationships and overjets were more distinct in the MBB group. Conclusions: The anteroposterior differences between the appliances suggest that MBBs should be preferred for the treatment of patients with Class II open bites and maxillary incisor protrusions.

  • Introduction: This study examined the anatomical morphology of the medial surface of the posterior mandible using 3-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography (CT) images to reduce the number of complications related to dental implant placement. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients were enrolled in this study with an average age (${\pm}$standard deviation) of 44.28 (${\pm}13.05$). On the coronal views cone-beam CT of the first molars, the distance between the top of the canal and alveolar crest vertical distance (VD), the distance between the upper-most point of the canal and the point perpendicular to the lingual cortical margin of the mandible lingual distance (LD), the location of the starting point of VD for reducing from the vertical reference line (VD point), and the inclination of the mandibular medial surface (lingual inclination) were measured, and a statistical evaluation was performed using SPSS for Windows version 15.0. Results: The mean VD0 was $16.91{\pm}2.47\;mm$ and VDx decreased with increasing x value. The mean LD was $5.27{\pm}1.36\;mm$. The VD began to decrease at the mean location of $6.12{\pm}0.96\;mm$ from the vertical reference line. The mean lingual inclination was $1.52{\pm}0.72^{\circ}$. Conclusion: These results will assist in the accurate placement of dental implants and the reduction of complications, particularly in the case of preoperative implant planning using only 2-dimensional imaging methods. • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of wearing a weightlifting belt, which is an auxiliary equipment used during squat, by measuring and analyzing biomechanical difference in lower limb and proposing safer and to suggest a more effective exercise method for general population. Selected 8 male participants in their 20s who have not performed regular resistance exercise for at least a year, but have experience of performing squat. The comprehensive method of study is as follows: subjects were notified of the purpose of the study and were told to practice warm-up and the squat motion for the experiment for 20 minutes. When the participant believed they were ready to begin, the experiment was started. At controlled points, foot pressure distribution sensor has been installed. Then left and right feet have been placed on the pressure distribution sensor, from which data for successful squat position that does not satisfy the criteria for failure have been collected and computed with Kwon3D XP program and TPScan program. For data processing of this study, SPSS 21.0 was used to calculated mean (M) and standard deviation (SD) of the analyzed values, and paired t-test has been conducted to investigate the difference before and after wearing the weightlifting belt, with p-value of ${\alpha}<.05$. As for time consumed depending on usage of weightlifting belt in squat, statistically significant difference has been found in P2, which is recovery movement. Lower limb angle depending on usage of weightlifting belt in squat has shown statistically significant difference in E1 foot joint(p<. 001). There has been statistically significant difference in E2 knee joint. Foot pressure percentage depending on usage of weightlifting belt in squat were found to be statistically significant (p<. 01) in both regions of anterior and posterior foot.

  • This study was performed to evaluate hard tissue cephalometric norms for Korean adults which can be implemented in surgical orthodontic treatment planning using selected horizontal reference plane especially for Koreans (Male: $SN-7.5^{\circ}$, Female: $SN-9.0^{\circ}$) and a simplified analytical method. 70 males and 70 females consisting of freshmen of Yonsei University from 1996 to 1997 and students from the Dental College of Yonsei University were chosen according to clinical examination and cephalometric analysis. The samples had normal profiles, normal anteroposterior skeletal relationship(ANB angle of $0^{\circ}$ to $4^{\circ}$ and Wits appraisal of -4.0mm to 0mm), and Class I molar and canine relationship. They had no missing or supernumerary teeth and had no experience of orthodontic or prosthetic treatment. After the selection of 23 landmarks and the construction of horizontal and vertical reference lines, 22 skeletal and 12 dental measurements were taken. These consisted of vertical and horizontal linear measurements and angular measurements. The results were as follows. 1. Mean and standard deviation of the measurements were calculated for males and females. 2. Most of the skeletal vertical measurements, and maxillary and mandibular length were bigger in males than females. Whereas anterior facial height ratio(N-ANS/ANS-Me) as well as maxillary and mandibular antero-posterior position in relation to the vertical reference line(N-perpendicular) showed no signigicant difference between sexes. 3. Maxillary and mandibular dental antero-posterior position in relation to the vertical reference line(N-perpendicular) showed no significant difference between sexes. 4. The upper incisor show(U1-Stms) was $2.1{\pm}1.7mm$ in males and $3.3{\pm}1.7mm$ in females. In this study, hard tissue cephalometric norms of Korean adults for orthognathic surgery were obtained.
