In this paper, to solve localization problem for out-door navigation of robotic vehicles, a particle filter based 3D object recognition framework that can estimate the pose of a building or its entrance is presented. A particle filter framework of multiple evidence fusion and model matching in a sequence of images is presented for robust recognition and pose estimation of 3D objects. The proposed approach features 1) the automatic selection and collection of an optimal set of evidences 2) the derivation of multiple interpretations, as particles representing possible object poses in 3D space, and the assignment of their probabilities based on matching the object model with evidences, and 3) the particle filtering of interpretations in time with the additional evidences obtained from a sequence of images. The proposed approach has been validated by the stereo-camera based experimentation of 3D object recognition and pose estimation, where a combination of photometric and geometric features are used for evidences.

In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient algorithm for head pose estimation using a single camera. First, four subimages are obtained from the camera image for face feature extraction. These subimages are used as feature templates. The templates are then tracked by Kalman filtering, and camera projective matrix is computed by the projective mapping between the templates and their coordinate in the 3D coordinate system. And the user's face pose is estimated from the projective mapping between the user's face and image plane. The accuracy and the robustness of our technique is verified on the experimental results of several real video sequences.

This paper deals with a vision-based trajectory tracking control system for a quadrotor-type UAV for entertainment purpose in indoor environment. In contrast to outdoor flights that emphasize the autonomy to complete special missions such as aerial photographs and reconnaissance, indoor flights for entertainment require trajectory following and hovering skills especially in precision and stability of performance. This paper proposes a trajectory tracking control system consisting of a motion generation module, a pose estimation module, and a trajectory tracking module. The motion generation module generates a sequence of motions that are specified by 3-D locations at each sampling time. In the pose estimation module, 3-D position and orientation information of a quadrotor is estimated by recognizing a circular ring pattern installed on the vehicle. The trajectory tracking module controls the 3-D position of a quadrotor in real time using the information from the motion generation module and pose estimation module. The proposed system is tested through several experiments in view of one-point, multi-points, and trajectory tracking control.

In this paper, we evaluate Boosted 3-D PCA as a Dataset and evaluate its performance. After that, we will analyze the network features and performance. In this paper, the learning was performed using the 300W-LP data set using the same learning method as Boosted 3-D PCA, and the evaluation was evaluated using the AFLW2000 data set. The results show that the performance is similar to that of the Boosted 3-D PCA paper. This performance result can be learned using the data set of face images freely than the existing Landmark-to-Pose method, so that the poses can be accurately predicted in real-world situations. Since the optimization of the set of key points is not independent, we confirmed the manual that can reduce the computation time. This analysis is expected to be a very important resource for improving the performance of network boosted 3-D PCA or applying it to various application domains.

Recognition of posed face is one of the most challenging problems in the field of face recognition. In this paper, as a preprocessing step for recognizing such faces, a method to transform non-frontal face images into frontal face images is proposed. The linear relationship between eigenfaces is utilized to obtain a pose transform matrix. The proposed method is verified with a well-known face recognition algorithm based on PCA/LDA. Compared to the conventional algorithm applied to the original posed face images, our experimental results indicated that the proposed method contributes to improve the recognition rate of such faces by $20\%$.

This paper proposes a dynamic human pose tracking method using motion-based search strategy from an image sequence obtained from a monocular camera. The proposed method compares the image features between 3D human model projections and real input images. The method repeats the process until predefined criteria and then estimates 3D human pose that generates the best match. When searching for the best matching configuration with respect to the input image, the search region is determined from the estimated 2D image motion and then search is performed randomly for the body configuration conducted within that search region. As the 2D image motion is highly constrained, this significantly reduces the dimensionality of the feasible space. This strategy have two advantages: the motion estimation leads to an efficient allocation of the search space, and the pose estimation method is adaptive to various kinds of motion.

Accurate pose prediction of objects in 3D space is an important visual recognition technique widely used in many applications such as scene understanding in both indoor and outdoor environments, robotic object manipulation, autonomous driving, and augmented reality. Most previous works for object pose estimation have the limitation that they require an exact 3D CAD model for each object. Unlike such previous works, this paper proposes a novel neural network model that can predict the poses of unknown objects based on only their RGB color images without the corresponding 3D CAD models. The proposed model can obtain depth maps required for unknown object pose prediction by using an adaptive depth estimator, AdaBins,. In this paper, we evaluate the usefulness and the performance of the proposed model through experiments using benchmark datasets.
This paper proposes a real-time hand pose tracking method using a monocular RGB camera. Hand tracking has high ambiguity since a hand has a number of degrees of freedom. Thus, to reduce the ambiguity the proposed method adopts the step-by-step estimation scheme: a palm pose estimation, a finger yaw motion estimation, and a finger pitch motion estimation, which are performed in consecutive order. Assuming a hand to be a plane, the proposed method utilizes a planar hand model, which facilitates a hand model regeneration. The hand model regeneration modifies the hand model to fit a current user's hand, and improves robustness and accuracy of the tracking results. The proposed method can work in real-time and does not require GPU-based processing. Thus, it can be applied to various platforms including mobile devices such as Google Glass. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed method will be verified through various experiments.

Traditional pose estimation methods include using special devices or images through image processing. The disadvantage of using a device is that the environment in which the device can be used is limited and costly. The use of cameras and image processing has the advantage of reducing environmental constraints and costs, but the performance is lower. CNN(Convolutional Neural Networks) were studied for pose estimation just using only camera without these disadvantage. Various techniques were proposed to increase cognitive performance. In this paper, the effect of the skip connection on the network was experimented by using various skip connections on the joint recognition of the hand. Experiments have confirmed that the presence of additional skip connections other than the basic skip connections has a better effect on performance, but the network with downward skip connections is the best performance.

Recently, due to the popularization of 3D depth cameras, new researches and opportunities have been made in research conducted on RGB images, but estimation of human hand pose is still classified as one of the difficult topics. In this paper, we propose a robust estimation method of human hand pose from various input 3D depth images using a learning algorithm. The proposed approach first generates a skeleton-based hand model and then aligns the generated hand model with three-dimensional point cloud data. Then, using a random forest-based learning algorithm, the hand pose is strongly estimated from the aligned hand model. Experimental results in this paper show that the proposed hierarchical approach makes robust and fast estimation of human hand posture from input depth images captured in various indoor and outdoor environments.
