  • In order to effectively operate and manage the port terminal, it is necessary to use port terminal simulator for the analysis of port terminal. However, there are many difficulties in applying an existing port terminal simulator to various terminals, because each of the port terminals has different structures, facilities, equipment, and job processes. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a design method of port terminal simulator for the improvement of reusability by using model-based techniques. We also showed the implementation of the prototype of the port terminal simulator of applying the research content.

  • Since container throughput is continually increasing, the main issues facing decision-makers at port container terminals are how to expand the existing container terminals and construct new container terminals. Simulations that support user needs require modeling tools that are both easy to use and sufficiently to reflect real world system. The object-oriented approach provides for both reusability and modularity that best fits these requirements. This paper present the design procedure a simulator for port container terminal that was based on the object-oriented approach. The simulator in order to model and simulate the TC-based container terminals is developed.

  • This paper deals with the case study that determine the best equipment scale to be satisfied a handing capacity of the container terminal using computer simulation techniques. The objective of this study is to suggest an operation alternative of equipment scale including container canes, transfer cranes, and yard tractors which reflects a container throughput. For the simulation, the object-oriented simulator with the special purpose of container terminal analysis is used. And the used simulator was developed to simulate the transfer crane based container terminal for yard equipment. Using the simulator, we test an existing port container terminal, PECT(Pusan East Container Terminal).

  • Due to the fast growing rate of the global container trade, every major port is under the pressure of meeting the projected capacity demand. As a result, alternative solutions have been sought for improving capacity and meeting the growing demand for container storage area and terminal capacity. Moreover, material handling process re-engineering is now a critical issue for logistics and supply chain managers of airline, shipping lines, terminal and warehousing enterprises around the world. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to develop the 3D simulator for executing performance valuation of port transportation systems. The developed 3D simulator system is to measure the effectiveness of the proposed total system and compare it with existing practices. The performance analysis variables are also defined for these comparisons

  • Since world container throughput continues to grow, the main issues facing decision-makers at port container terminals are how to expand the existing container terminals and construct new container terminals. Simulations can be used in the decision making process tools due to its ease and ability to reflect the real world system. The object-oriented approach provides for both reusability and modularity that best fits these requirements. In this paper, the object-oriented approach to modeling and simulating general container terminals is presented. Simulation tools based on Visual C++ provide a user-friendly input and output environment through the use of an object class-library. This paper also presents the case study of a simulation of a real container terminal in Pusan, Korea.

  • This paper proposes a design procedure to develop the object-oriented simulator of port container terminal. The design methodology uses an object-oriented approach to support an object-oriented simulation and the design procedure consists of object scheme and event scheme. The object-scheme is a procedure to determine the structure of material flow objects and information flow objects and a relation diagram between objects that have attributes and methods. The event scheme is a procedure to define methods and to connect messages of objects. We assume that the container terminal system consists of gate, container yard, and berth and the equipment used in the container terminal are container cranes, transfer cranes, yard tractors, and trailers.

  • The Keyongin Inland waterway will connect with Han-River and the Northen part of the Incheon-seaway and this way will be opened at the early of October this year. In this regard, the Incheon container terminal is under constructing for 1,000 TEU & 550 TEU container vessels at the place of leftside of the Seohae lockgate. However the terminal length is not still fixed due to at a great expenses of construction and dosposal matter of the dredged soil. So this paper will suggest the optimum berth length by using the full mission shiphandling simulator for berthing and unberthing shipmaneuvering. And also evaluates the design standard of harbor construction rules and analysis optimum berth length against ship's length for safe shiphandling at terminals in accordance with the customary practices of the major ports in Korea.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D visualization system that expresses the simulation results of port container operation monitoring and planning in terms of the movements of the surrounding environment including static and dynamic objects. It also enables us to objectively evaluate the operation model by way of animating the actual port operations. With XML-based design of object states, the port simulator visualization system (PSVS) that we propose has been implemented so as to maximize the interoperability with the existing port operation simulation (CATOS), and express the realtime animation of large-scale objects. The design method of PSVS system is explained, and its validity is experimentally examined.

  • The container terminal is the unified transportation system which connects between a land transportation and a sea transportation. This system has many subsystems such as ship operation, yard transfer operation, yard storage system, gate operation, and information manage system. This paper presents a method of modeling a simulator with which user can evaluate the efficiency of the equipment and allocation policies in the container terminal. The final purpose is to estimate the efficiency of each equipments and the distribution policies. In a design step in the simulator development. We suggest the Object Oriented method with which the developer can easily design, because the object oriented method has the advantages of reusability and modularity.
