  • Formaldehyde emissions from the construct was harmful to human. Diatomite, bentonite and zeolite were used as porous materials for fabricating panels. Formaldehyde adsorption and physical characteristics of porous materials were investigated and hydrothermal method was applied to fabricate panels. Formaldehyde adsorption contents of panels with porous materials were higher than that of panel without porous materials. The panels with Cheolwon diatomite and Pohang zeolite showed excellent characteristics of Formaldehyde adsorption. These characteristics were caused by higher surface area and pore volume of porous materials. Formaldehyde adsorption contents were influenced by surface area and pore volume of panels. Correlation coefficient between surface area and Formaldehyde adsorption content of panels was 0.87. The panels with porous materials had higher strength than that without porous materials because of bridging role particles.

  • PZT powders were prepared by the molten salt synthesis method. The porous PZT ceramics were made from a mixture of PZT and polyvinylalcohol(PVA) by BURPS(Burnout Plastic Sphere) technique. The porous PZT bodies were fabricated from the green compacts with various amounts of PVA spheres. The piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ (334~350*10$^{-12}$ C/N)of porous PZT ceramics(364*10$^{-12}$ C/N). The figure of merit(d$_{h}$g$_{h}$) of porous PZT specimens evaluating the sensitivity for ultrasonic transducer applications was improved significantly(11~70times) in comparison with that of single phase PZT ceramics(100*10$^{-15}$ m$^{2}$/N). The thickness mode coupling factor k$_{t}$(0.5~0.6) of porous specimens was comparable with that of single phase PZT ceramics(k$_{t}$=0.7). The mechanical quality factor of porous PZT specimens was smaller than 10, and thus these porous PZT ceramics would be believed as a good candidate for broad band hydrophone applications. • The behavior of porous medium is modeled by linear thermoporoelastic behavior, linear poroviscoelastic behavior, poroplastic behavior, and poroviscoplastic behavior, etc. The behavior has, in general, a complicated aspect which makes a mechanical description of the problem with time. Constitutive modeling for deformation behavior of porous medium with coupling effects is needed since there is interaction between the constituents in pores with a relative velocity to each other. In this work, it is explained 3-dimensional behavior depending on degree of saturation for porous medium composed of homogeneous, isotropic materials. It is obtained the governing equations based on continuum porous mechanics. In addition, it is developed constitutive model which can be understood of behavior for porous medium which can be understood, analysed behavior of porous medium. It can be accomplished exact analysis and prediction of behavior in porous medium. The behavior for porous medium is analysed exactly, and the prediction of deformation behavior is accomplished. Consequently, it will be basis to analyze 3-dimensional behavior in municipal solid waste landfill, and the practical using of porous medium ground which are composed of nonhomogeneous, anisotropic materials can be done widely.

  • Porous ceramic plates were prepared from Onggi clay and bamboo charcoal powder at 1100 and $1200^{\circ}C$ and their porous properties and water absorption, and the cooling effect of porous plates, were investigated to produce eco-friendly porous ceramics for a self-cooling system that relies on the evaporation of absorbed water. Porous properties were dependent on the particle size of charcoal powder pore forming additive and the firing temperature; properties were also found to be dependent on the total pore volume, average pore size and porosity, which had values of $0.103-0.243cm^3/g$, 0.81 - 2.56 mm and 20.9 - 38.2%, respectively, at $1100^{\circ}C$ and $0.04-0.18cm^3/g$, 0.33 - 2.03 mm and 10.8 - 30.9%, respectively, at $1200^{\circ}C$. Cooling temperature difference of flowing air parallel to surface of porous ceramic plates fired with two kinds of charcoal powder at $1100^{\circ}C$ was $3.5-3.6^{\circ}C$ at $26^{\circ}C$ and 60% of relative humidity in a closed box. Cooling temperature difference was dependent on the number of porous plates and the distance between porous plates. A simple and eco-friendly cooling system using porous ceramic plates fired from Onggi clay and charcoal powder was proposed.

  • Normal sintering process of producing porous ceramics is not to sinter perfectly, i.e., stop sintering in middle-process. Our porous ceramic materials are a product of complete sintering. For example if one want to make a porous carborundum, raw carborundum powder is sintered at either lower temperatures than normal sintering temperature or shorter sintering periods than normal sintering time to obtain incompletely sintered materials, i.e., porous carborundum. This implies normally sintered porous ceramic materials can mot be used in high vacuum conditions due to dust coming out from uncompleted sintering. We could produce completely sintered porous ceramic materials. For example, we can produce porous carborundum material by using carborundum particles bonded by glassy material. The properties of this material are similar to carborundum. We could make quasi-zero thermal expansion porous material by using carborundum and particles of negative thermal expansion materials bonded by the glassy material. We apply to sinter them also by microwave to sinter quickly. We also use HIP process to introduce closed pores. We could sinter them in large size to produce $2.5m{\times}2.5m$ ceramic plate to use as a precision plate for flat display industries. This flat ceramic plate is the world largest artificial ceramic plate. Precision plates are basic importance to any advanced electronic industries. The produced precision plate has lower density, lower thermal expansivity, higher or similar damping properties added extra properties such as vacuum vise, air sliding capacity. These plates are highly recommended to use in flat display industries. We could produce also cylindrical porous ceramics materials, which can applied to precision roller for polymer film precision motion for also electronic industries.

  • The composite of porous silicon (Si) and amorphous carbon (C) is prepared by pyrolysis of a nano-porous Si + pitch mixture. The nano-porous Si is prepared by mechanical milling of magnesium powder with silicon monoxide (SiO) followed by removal of MgO with hydrochloric acid (etching process). The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of porous Si ($64.52m^2g^{-1}$) is much higher than that before etching Si/MgO ($4.28m^2g^{-1}$) which indicates pores are formed in Si after the etching process. Cycling stability is examined for the nano-porous Si + C composite and the result is compared with the composite of nonporous Si + C. The capacity retention of the former composite is 59.6% after 50 charge/discharge cycles while the latter shows only 28.0%. The pores of Si formed after the etching process is believed to accommodate large volumetric change of Si during charging and discharging process.

  • Removal of gas in a mold has been a big problem in pressing mold or in injection mold. Air vent has been used to solve the problem, but it has weak points such as the increased cost, the increased number of process, and vent marks on the surface of a product. In this study, the sintering method and rapid tooling method are used for making porous metal mold. Porous metal mold has many open pores, which are very small. When porous metal mold is used for pressing mold or injection mold, all process would be made short, produce cost would be down, and vent marks would be not leaved on the surface of a product. Characteristic of porous material varies from sintering conditions, which are the length of sintering time, sintering temperature and sintering atmosphere etc. This study will find optimized sintering condition for the porous metal mold.

  • Recently, there has been for a number of reasons growing interest in the use of porous concrete, and it is used as an ecological material. But, because the valuation methods of the quality on the fresh porous concrete aren't established up till now, it is difficult that the harden porous concrete is made sure of its required quality. This study is to present the measurement method of the void ratio on the fresh porous concrete and to analyze the influence of water-cement ratio and vibrating time on the binder content covered a coarse aggregate. Results of this study were shown as follows; The measurement methods of the void ratio and aggregate-binder weight ratio on the fresh porous concrete can be useful as data for the quality control of fresh porous concrete.

  • As one alternative to alleviate damages caused by stormwater runoff, the effects of runoff quantity reduction are analyzed when porous pavement is used. Porous pavements with various depths, general pavement and an artificial rainfall generator are installed for laboratory experiments. Runoff changes are analyzed according to the various rainfall durations. The rainfall intensity of 150 mm/hr is generated for 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes. For porous pavements with 80 cm thickness, 100%, 93%, 56% of discharge is infiltrated through soil, respectively. For porous pavements with 20 cm thickness, 81%, 32%, 28% of discharge is infiltrated through soil, respectively. It is found that the porous pavements are able to decrease the runoff.
