Five different labelled composite resin, Hypol (Korea), Glass-Ionomer (Japan), Simulate (U.S.A.), Durafil (U.S.A.) and Microfil (U.S.A.) were collected to employ for this experimental study. The purpose of the study is to determine the effect of finger pressure technic and traditional filling by means of plastic instruments on porosity formation in composite materials. Each material with pressure and non-pressure cases were carefully examined under electron microscope. Following were the results obtained through the study. 1. Pressured cases showed smaller number of porosity and the size of porosity was significantly smaller than non-pressured cases in each mateial. 2. Glass-Ionomer with pressure cases were seen as tube-like appearance because of pressured small porosities communicate in a certain direction. 3. Durafil cases both pressured and non pressured, appeared the least porosity formation. among the materiats. 4. Border line between the outmost periphery of the porosity and matrix of the resin in both pressured or non-pressured eases were found characteristically clear in Mierofil cases.
This paper presents the combination resonances of FG porous (FGP) cylindrical shell under two-term excitation. The effect of structural damping on the system response is also considered. With regard to classical plate theory of shells, von-$K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ equation and Hook law, the relations of stress-strain is derived for shell. According to the Galerkin method, the discretized motion equation is obtained. The combination resonances are obtained by using the method of multiple scales. Four types of FGP distributions consist of uniform porosity, non-symmetric porosity soft, non-symmetric porosity stiff and symmetric porosity distribution are considered. The influence of various porosity distributions, porosity coefficients of cylindrical shell and amplitude excitations on the combination resonances for FGP cylindrical shells is investigated.

In this study, the mechanical bending behaviors of functionally graded porous nanobeams are investigated. Four types of porosity which are, the classical power porosity function, the symmetric with mid-plane cosine function, bottom surface distribution and top surface distribution are proposed in analysis of nanobeam for the first time. A comparison between four types of porosity are illustrated. The effect of nano-scale is described by the differential nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen by adding the length scale into the constitutive equations as a material parameter comprising information about nanoscopic forces and its interactions. The graded material is designated by a power function through the thickness of nanobeam. The beam is simply-supported and is assumed to be thin, and hence, the kinematic assumptions of Euler-Bernoulli beam theory are held. The mathematical model is solved numerically using the finite element method. Numerical results show effects of porosity type, material graduation, and nanoscale parameters on the static deflection of nanobeam.
The porosity of functionally graded materials (FGM) can affect the static and dynamic behavior of plates, which is important to take this aspect into account when analyzing such structures. The present work aims to study the effect of the distribution shape of porosity on the free vibration response of simply supported FG plate reposed on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation. A refined theory of shear deformation is expanded to study the influence of the distribution shape of porosity on the free vibration behavior of FG plates. The findings showed that the distribution shape of porosity significantly influences the free vibration behavior of thick rectangular FG plates for small values of Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation parameters.

In this study, the effect of porosity distribution pattern on the free vibration analysis of porous FG plates with various boundary conditions is studied. The material properties of the plate and the porosities within the plate are considered to vary continuously through the thickness direction according to the volume fraction of constituents defined by the modified rule of the mixture, this includes porosity volume fraction with four different types of porosity distribution over the cross-section. The governing partial differential equation of motion for the free vibration analysis is obtained using hyperbolic shear deformation theory. An analytical solution is presented for the governing PDEs for various boundary conditions. Results of the presented solution are compared and validated by the available results in the literature. Moreover, the effects of material and porosity distribution and geometrical parameters on vibrational properties are investigated.
Portland cement pervious concrete (PCPC) is an effective pavement material to solve or reduce the urban waterlogging problems. The Mechanical properties, the permeability, the abrasion resistance and the frost resistance of PCPC without fine aggregate were investigated. The increase of porosity was achieved by fixing the dosage of coarse aggregate and reducing the amount of cement paste. The results show that the compressive strength and the flexural strength of PCPC decrease with the increase of porosity. The permeability coefficient and the wear loss of PCPC increase with the increase of the porosity. The compressive strength and the flexural strength of PCPC subjected to 25 freeze-thaw cycles are reduced by 13.7%-17.8% and 10.6%-18.3%, respectively. For PCPC subjected to the same freeze-thaw cycles, the mass loss firstly increases and then decreases with the increase of the porosity. The relative dynamic modulus elasticity decreases with the increase of freeze-thaw cycles. And the lower the PCPC porosity is, the more obvious the dynamic modulus elasticity decreases.
Using zirconia and poly (methyl methacrylate-coethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (PMMA) microbeads, macroporous zirconia ceramics were fabricated by a simple pressing method. Effects of template size and content on microstructure, porosity, and flexural and compressive strengths were investigated in the processing of the macroporous zirconia ceramics. Three different sizes of microbeads (8, 20, and $50{\mu}m$) were used as a template for fabricating the macroporous ceramics. The porosity increased with increasing the template size at the same template content. The flexural and compressive strengths were primarily influenced by the porosity rather than the template size. However, the strengths increased with decreasing the template size at the same porosity. By controlling the template size and content, it was possible to produce macroporous zirconia ceramics with porosities ranging from 58% to 75%. Typical flexural and compressive strength values at 60% porosity were ${\sim}30\;MPa$ and ${\sim}75\;MPa$, respectively.
$Ti_5Si_3$ intermetallics containing 0-6 wt% of Cu were made by reactive sintering (RS) under vacuum using elemental powder mixtures (Process 1), electro-pressure sintering (EPS) using RS'ed materials (Process2), and EPS using elemental powder mixtures (Process 3). Relatively low dense titanium silicides were gained by process 1, in which porosity decreased with increasing Cu content. For example, porosity changed from 42 to 19.4% with the increase in Cu content from 0 to 6 wt%, indicating that Cu is a useful sintering aid. The titanium silicides fabricated by Process 2 had a higher density than those by Process 1 at given composition, and porosity decreased with increasing Cu content. For example, porosity decreased from 38 to 6.8% with the change in Cu content from 0 to 6 wt%. A high dense titanium silicides were obtained by Process 3. In this Process, porosity decreased a little by Cu addition, and was almost insensitive to Cu content. Namely, about 9 or 7% of porosity was shown in 0 or 1-6 wt% Cu containing silicides, respectively. The hardeness increased by Cu addition, and was not changed markedly with Cu content for the silicides fabricated by Process 3. This tendency was considered to be resulted from porosity, hardening of grain interior by Cu addition, and softening of grain boundary by Cu-base segregates. All these results suggested that EPS using elemental powder mixtures (Process 3) is an effective processing method to achieve satisfactorily dense titanium silicides.
The proper feeding conditions for thin Al-Alloy (AA336, JIS AC8A) castings in permanent mold were investigated to eliminate microshrinkage porosity. 5mm-thick plates (200mm long, 60mm wide) were cast with increasing padding taper from 0 to 5% under different conditions : (1) constant mold temperature of $350^{\circ}C$, (2) continuous production with uniform mold thickness (10mm), (3) continuous production with a negative taper of 2.5% in mold thickness (thickness decreasing in direction to riser). The test casting were machined off to the midplane and the shrinkage porosity was examined visually. The critical padding taper which can just eliminate the shrinkage porosity was determined for each condition, i.e. : (1) 4.5% at the constant mold temperature, (2) 3.5% for continuous production with the uniform mold thickness (3) 1.5% for continuous production with the taper in mold thickness. A computer simulation by a finite difference analysis program was applied to the test casting. The liquid fraction gradient (LFG) and the temperature gradient divided by the square root of the cooling rate (G /SR) were calculated at the end of solidification and compared with the shrinkage porosity area in the castings. For the case of constant mold temperature, LFG is a better parameter to predict shrinkage porosity than G /SR and its critical value is around 11%/cm. But for the case of continuous production, neither LFG nor G /SR could be a reliable parameter. The experimental results about the critical padding taper are of practical interest for designing permanent molds and castings. The computer simulation results stimulate further research to be directed on the prediction of centerline microshrinkage porosity in continuous production.
This paper was described on investigation to prevent porosity in high speed MIG Welding of Al 6082-T6. Porosity measurement was carried out by using image analysis of micrographs with the help of an analysis software. The main parameter was arc length and torch progressive angle. The porosity ratio was increased as arc length was increased. The arc length was increased depending upon the output voltage. By proper selection of pulse waveform parameter, the stable arc of one pulse one drop was generated. The porosity ratio of optimum condition in one pulse one drop was lower than high voltage condition. When torch progressive angle was an angle of advance $10^{\circ}$, porosity ratio was minium.
