포화 및 부분 포화 사질토의 Vp와 Vs 속도 및 과잉간극수압 측정을 위한 비틂전단 시험기의 개발 (Development of Torsional Shear Testing System to Measure P-wave Velocity, S-wave Velocity and Pore Water Pressure Buildup on Fully and Partially Saturated Sands)

  • 사질토의 액상화에 대한 저항 강도는 포화도에 상당히 의존한다. 압축파 속도는 현장에서 쉽게 측정이 가능하고 포화도의 영향을 크게 받기 때문에 현장 지반의 포화도를 예측하고자 할 때 효율적으로 사용될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 시료의 포화가 가능하고 전단파, 압축파 속도 측정 및 비배수 상태에서 비틂전단 시험을 수행시 유발되는 과잉간극수압을 측정할 수 있는 비틂전단 시험기를 개발하였다. 토요라 모래에 대해 전단파, 압축파 속도 측정이 수행되고, 비배수 비틂전단 시험을 실시하였다. 포화도(B값)에 따른 시료의 전단파 속도 및 압축파 속도를 이론식과 비교하여 개발된 시험기를 검증하였으며, 여러 B값에서 비배수 TS 시험동안 유발되는 과잉 간극수압의 변화를 측정 분석하였다.

Seismic analysis of dam under different upstream water levels

  • The present paper describes the results of numerical modeling of a dam founded on loose liquefiable deposit using PLAXIS-3D finite element software. Effect of a different dam water level on parameters like displacements, Excess Pore water pressures, Liquefaction potential and Accelerations is studied. El- Centro earthquake motion is applied as input earthquake motion. The results of this study show that different upstream dam water level greatly affects the displacements, excess pore pressure and displacement tendency of the underlying foundation soils and the dam.

압력손실시험을 이용한 막 완결성 평가에서 초기압력 및 UCL 도출인자 민감도 분석 (Sensitivity Analysis of Initial Pressure and Upper Control Limit on the Pressure Decay Test for Membrane Integrity Evaluation)

  • Recently domestic drinking water industry has recognized membrane-based technology as a promising alternative for water treatment. To ensure successful application of membrane processes, the integrity of membrane systems should be maintained. According to US EPA guidance, the pressure decay test based on the bubble point theory is recommended to detect any membrane defection of which size is close to the smallest diameter of Cryptosporidium oocysts, $3{\mu}m$. Proper implementation of the pressure decay test is greatly affected by initial test pressure, and the interpretation of the test results is associated with upper control limit. This study is conducted to investigate various factors affecting determination of initial test prtessure and upper control limit, including membrane-based parameters such as pore shape correction factor, surface tension and contact angle, and system-based parameters, such as volumetric concentration factor and total volume of system. In this paper, three different hollow fibers were used to perform the pressure decay test. With identical initial test pressure applied, their pressure decay tendency were different from each other. This finding can be explained by the micro-structure disparity of those membranes which is verified by FESEM images of those membranes. More specifically, FESEM images revealed that three hollow fibers have asymmetry, deep finger, shallow finger pore shape, respectively. In addition, sensitivity analysis was conducted on five parameters mentioned above to elucidate their relation to determination of initial test pressure and upper control limit. In case of initial pressure calculation, the pore shape correction factor has the highest value of sensitivity. For upper control limit determination, system factors have greater impact compared to membrane-based parameters.

공극 네트워크 모델을 이용한 주문진표준사의 함수특성곡선 및 상대투수율 예측에 관한 연구 (Prediction of Soil-Water Characteristic Curve and Relative Permeability of Jumunjin Sand Using Pore Network Model)

  • 본 연구에서는 공극 네트워크 모델을 이용하여 사질토의 함수특성곡선을 수치해석적으로 획득하였다. 주문진표준사의 시편을 고해상도 3차원 X-ray CT 촬영하여 공극 영상을 획득하였고, 이를 공극방과 공극목으로 이루어진 관망으로 재구성하였으며 이 때 관의 반경은 공극목의 최소반경으로 정의하였다. 모세관압에 영향을 미치는 공극목의 반경은 세선화알고리즘과 유클리디언 거리변환을 통해 계산하였다. 수치해석적으로 얻은 함수특성곡선을 실험결과와 비교하였으며, 수치해석 결과는 실험결과에 비해 공기함입치가 과대평가 되었으나 전체 모세관압은 유사한 분포를 나타냈다. 또한 실험결과로부터 도출된 상대투수율은 높은 포화도에서 수치해석 결과에 비해 큰 값을 보였다.

  • Larger area will be constructed in a harbor land and container terminal which are constructed in reclaimed land using the dredged materials. Soil improvement work is to be carried out including constructibility, in which is monitoring devices, measuring frequency, installations etc. The ground water tables in the reclaimed area are affected by the several factors which are design reclamation level, consolidation settlement, remaining surcharge pressure and remaining excess pore water pressure. The plan wii be drawn up in which monitoring results for the ground water tables are capable to provide the reliable ground water table when designers and civil engineers construct the harbor structures considering constructibility.

Thaw consolidation behavior of frozen soft clay with calcium chloride

  • Brine leakage is a common phenomenon during construction facilitated by artificial freezing technique, threatening the stability of frozen wall due to the continual thawing of already frozen domain. This paper takes the frequently encountered soft clay in Wujiang District as the study object, and remolded specimens were prepared by mixing calcium chloride solutions at five levels of concentration. Both the deformation and pore water pressure of frozen specimens during thawing were investigated by two-stage loading tests. Three sections were noted from the changes in the strain rate of specimens during thawing at the first-stage load, i.e., instantaneous, attenuated, and quasi-stable sections. During the second-stage loading, the deformation of post-thawed soils is closely correlated with the dissipation of pore water pressure. Two characteristic indexes were obtained including thaw-settlement coefficient and critical water content. The critical water content increases positively with salt content. The higher water content of soil leads to a larger thaw-settlement coefficient, especially at higher salt contents, based on which an empirical equation was proposed and verified. The normalized pore water pressure during thawing was found to dissipate slower at higher salt contents, with a longer duration to stabilize. Three physical indexes were experimentally determined such as freezing point, heat conductivity and water permeability. The freezing point decreases at higher salt contents, especially as more water is involved, like the changes in heat conductivity. The water permeability maintains within the same order at the considered range of salt contents, like the development of the coefficient of consolidation. The variation of the pore volume distribution also accounts for this.

조위변동(潮位變動)을 받는 호안제(護岸堤)의 사면안정해석(斜面安定解析) (Stability Analysis for a Dyke Subjected to Tidal Fluctuations)

  • 하루에 두번씩 10m의 진폭을 가지고 조위(潮位)가 계속해서 변화(變化)한다고 가정하여 한 대표적인 호안제(護岸提) 단면에 대해 사면안정해석(斜面安定解析)을 행한다. 조위(潮位)가 변화(變化)하는 동안 호안제내(護岸提內) 간극수압(間隙水壓)의 변화(變化)는 전산 프로그램 "FLUMP"에 의해 수행되며 이 프로그램은 포화(飽和)흐름은 물론 비포화(非飽和)흐름과 비정상(非正常) 흐름까지 고려될 수 있도록 짜여져 있다. 이 프로그램으로 얻어진 결과는 조위변동시(潮位變動時)의 자유수면(自由水面) 변화(變化)와 정(正) 및 부간극수압(負間隙水壓)의 크기와 분포를 명확하게 결정할 수 있음을 보여주고 있다. 조위(潮位)가 최저(最低)까지 내려갔을 때 제체내(堤體內) 어느 부분에서는 압력수두(壓力水頭)가 자유수면(自由水面)의 높이보다 더 높게 나타난다. 즉 이것은 조위변동(潮位變動)을 받는 호안제(護岸堤)의 일부에 과잉간극수압(過剩間隙水壓)이 발생함을 의미한다. 또한 부간극수압(負間隙水壓)이 나타나는 불포화영역(不飽和領域)이 조위강하시(潮位降下時)에 일시적(一時的)으로 발생한다. 이 불포화영역(不飽和領域)의 흙의 전단강도(剪斷强度)는 간극수압(間隙水壓)이 정(正)의 상태로부터 부(負)로 바뀔때 증가(增加)되며 이 값은 Fredlund 등이 제안한 방법에 따라 결정될 수 있다. 호안제(護岸堤) 사면(斜面)의 안정해석(安定解析)에 있어서는 조위변동시(潮位變動時) 발생되는 과잉간극수압(過剩間隙水壓)과 불포화영역(不飽和領域)의 부간극수압(負間隙水壓)이 반드시 고려되어야 한다는 것을 이 논문에서 강조하고 있다. 이것들이 고려되었을 때 임계활동원은 조위(潮位)가 최저(最低)로 되었을 때 얻어지는 자유수면(自由水面)보다 아래에 존재하는 것 같다.

낙동강 모래의 반복응력이력에 의한 거동 (Behaviour of Nak-dong River Sand on Cyclic Stress History)

  • Earthquakes not only produce additional load on the structures and underlying soil, but also change the strength characteristics of the soil. Therefore, in order to analyze soil structures for stability, the behaviour after earthquake must be considered. In this paper, a series of cyclic triaxial tests and monotonic triaxial tests were carried out to investigate the undrained shear strength and liquefaction strength characteristics of Nak-Dong River sand soils which were subjected to cyclic loading. The sample was consolidated in the first stage and then subjected to stress controlled cyclic loading with 0.1Hz. After the cyclic loading, the cyclic-induced excess pore water pressure was dissipated by opening the drainage valve and the sample was reconsolidated to the initial effective mean principal stress(p/sub c/'). After reconsolidation, the monotonic loading or cyclic loading were applied to the specimen. In the results, the undrained shear strength and liquefaction strength characteristics depended on the pore pressure ratio(Ur=U/p/sub c/'). The volume change following reconsolidation can be a function of cyclic-induced excess pore water pressure and the maximum double amplitude of axial strain.

진동대 시험을 통한 액상화되는 지반의 수평지반반력계수에 대한 연구 (Modulus of Horizontal Subgrade Reaction in Liquefying Sand by Shaking Table Test)

  • Shaking table tests were peformed to evaluate the subgrade reaction of ground according to the build-up of pore water pressure. Model pile was installed in the sand ground. The acceleration of the model ground, the pore water pressure build-up and displacement of pile were recorded by measuring devices. Subgrade reaction approach based on Winker soil model was applied to obtain the modulus of the horizontal subgrade reaction. The results of analysis show that the reduction factor of the subgrade reaction due to pore pressure increase is about 1 and the horizontal subgrade reaction of liquefied ground is not influenced by the stiffness of pile, a ground acceleration and the intial ground density.

3D stability of shallow cavity roof with arbitrary profile under influence of pore water pressure

  • The stability of shallow cavities with an arbitrary profile is a difficult issue in geotechnical engineering. This paper investigates this problem on the basis of the upper bound theorem of limit analysis and the Hoek-Brown failure criterion. The influence of pore pressure is taken into consideration by regarding it as an external force acting on rock skeleton. An objective function is constructed by equating the internal energy dissipation to the external force work. Then the Lagrange variation approach is used to solve this function. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated by comparing the analytical solutions with the published research. The relations between shallow and deep cavity are revealed as well. The detaching curve of cavity roof with elliptical profile is obtained. In order to facilitate the application of engineering practice, the numerical results are tabulated, which play an important role in tunnel design and stability analysis of roof. The influential factors on potential collapse are taken into consideration. From the results, the impact of various factors on the extent of detaching is seen intuitively.
