실내수영장의 에너지 소비요소별 에너지 절약효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Energy Conservation Effect of Each Energy Consumption Component In Indoor Swimming Pools)

  • The objective of this study is to develop energy saving strategies for indoor swimming pools and to estimate the effect of each energy saving strategy. For this purpose, field measurements regarding pool water heating energy, domestic hot water heating energy are conducted and a base energy consumption model is implemented using the DOE-2.1E program. The results of the study reveal that 25% of the total pool water heating energy may be saved by using night time pool covers, 27% of the total domestic hot water heating energy may be saved by using a waste water heat recovery system (effic. 60%), and of the total ventilation energy may be saved using an exhaust air heat recovery system (effic. 60%).

국내 한 도시의 실내 수영장 공기 및 수영장 인근의 실외 공기에서의 클로로포름 (CHLOROFORM IN THE AIR OF INDOOR SWIMMING POOLS AND THE OUTDOOR AIR NEAR THE SWIMMING POOLS IN A CITY OF KOREA)

  • 차아염소산 나트륨으로 살균된 수영장 물에 존재하는 크로로포름은 수영장에서 실내공기내에 존재하는 클로로포름 평균농도를 측정하였다: 수영장 A에서는 28.0+-5.7$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$ 그리고 수영장 B에서는 33.6+-6.6$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$. 덧붓여, 수영장 A 및 B의 물에서 측정된 클로로포름 평균농도는 각각 23.9+-6.6$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$ 및 19.5+-7.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$이었다. 수영장 A 및 B 의 실내공기내에 존재하는 클로로포름 농도들은 살균제로서 차아염소산나트륨만을 사용한 수영장을 대상으로 측정한 외국의 이전 연구에서 보고된 결과보다 낮았다. 본 연구에서 측정된 물속의 믈로로포름 농도는 서로 유의한 상관관계를 나태내었다(p=0.002 and $R^2$=0.42). 실내 공기 시료채취와 유사한 시간에 실외 공기 시료가 각각 수영장 A 와 B에 가까운 두개의 장소에서 채취되었따. 수영장 A 및 B 근처에서 측정된 실외 공기에서의 클롤로포름 평균 농도는 각각 0.41+-0.15$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$ 및 0.16+-0.05$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m^3$이었다. 본 연구에서 측정된 실외 공기 내의 클로로포름 농도는 해외의 이전 연구들에서 보고된 값들과 동등하거나 작게 나타났다. 전형적인 한 시간 수영동안 흡기되는 클로로포름 흡취량은 일인다 25.9$\mu\textrm{g}$ 으로 추산되었고, 이는 70Kg의 성인 남자를 기준으로 하여 0.37$\mu\textrm{g}$/Kg 에 해당되는 흡취량이다. 반면에, 일인이 하루에, 실외 공기 흡입으로 인한 클로로포름의 흡취량은 5.6$\mu\textrm{g}$ 으로 추산되었고, 이는 동일한 성인 남자를 기준으로 할 때, 0.08$\mu\textrm{g}$/Kg/day 에 해당한다.

여울과 소의 소리특성 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis on the Sound Characteristics of Riffles and Pools)

  • 본 논문은 자연 하천 내 여울과 소를 대상으로 소리를 측정하고 유속별 주파수 및 음압을 정량적으로 비교하는 것이 목적이다. 조사지역은 강원도 양양군 남대천 유역으로써 총 23개 사이트에 대한 소리를 분석하였다. 소리 측정은 하이드로 마이크폰을 사용하였으며 음향분석프로그램을 이용해 측정값을 분석하였다. 또한 조사 위치는 주변 소음이 없는 곳을 선정하였으며 측정위치는 여울과 소의 수심을 고려하였다. 분석 결과 여울 8개소와 소 15개소의 유속은 평균 0.515 m/s의 차이가 있었으며 유속에 따라 음압의 차이가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 음압의 경우 여울은 평균 176.8 dB, 소는 168.2 dB로 측정되어 약 8.6 dB의 차이를 보였다. 또한 최대음압 발생 시 주파수의 경우 여울은 200 Hz ~ 250 Hz로 일정한 범위를 보였지만 소에서는 200 Hz ~ 1,000 Hz까지 다양한 주파수에서 최대음압이 발생하였다. 향후 하천서식처별 자연적인 소리분포가 분석되면 생태하천 재현, 수중생물의 선호 음원개발 및 구조물 설계에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Xenomonitoring of Different Filarial Nematodes Using Single and Multiplex PCR in Mosquitoes from Assiut Governorate, Egypt

  • Wuchereria bancrofti, Dirofilaria immitis, and Dirofilaria repens are filarial nematodes transmitted by mosquitoes belonging to Culex, Aedes, and Anopheles genera. Screening by vector dissection is a tiresome technique. We aimed to screen filarial parasites in their vectors by single and multiplex PCR and evaluate the usefulness of multiplex PCR as a rapid xenomonitoring and simultaneous differentiation tool, in area where 3 filarial parasites are coexisting. Female mosquitoes were collected from 7 localities in Assiut Governorate, were microscopically identified and divided into pools according to their species and collection site. Detection of W. bancrofti, D. immitis, and D. repens using single PCR was reached followed by multiplex PCR. Usefulness of multiplex PCR was evaluated by testing mosquito pools to know which genera and species are used by filarial parasites as a vector. An overall estimated rate of infection (ERI) in mosquitoes was 0.6%; the highest was Culex spp. (0.47%). W. bancrofti, D. immitis, and D. repens could be simultaneously and differentially detected in infected vectors by using multiplex PCR. Out of 100 mosquito pools, 8 were positive for W. bancrofti (ERI of 0.33%) and 3 pools each were positive for D. immitis and D. repens (ERI 0.12%). The technique showed 100% sensitivity and 98% specificity. El-Nikhila, El-Matiaa villages, and Sahel Seleem district in Assiut Governorate, Egypt are still endemic foci for filarial parasites. Multiplex PCR offers a reliable procedure for molecular xenomonitoring of filariasis within their respective vectors in endemic areas. Therefore, it is recommended for evaluation of mosquito infection after lymphatic filariasis eradication programs.

수영장 욕조수의 소독방법에 따른 THMs 발생 특성 (The Characteristics of THMs Production by Different Disinfection Methods in Swimming Pools Water)

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the formation of trihalomethanes(THMs) and to compare the concentration level of THMs of swimming pools water by different disinfection methods such as chlorine, ozone-chlorine, and salt brine electrolysis generator (SBEG). The concentration of chloroform was the highest in the chlorine system, and the SBEG was the highest in the production of bromodichloromethane (BDCM), dibromochloromethane (DBCM) and bromoform. The average concentration of total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) in three disinfection systems were $64.5{\pm}27.4mg/l(SBEG),\;43.8{\pm}22.3mg/l(chlorine)$, and $30.6{\pm}16.1mg/l(ozone-chlorine)$, respectively. In chlorine and ozone-chlorine disinfection system, chloroform concentration was highest, followed by BDCN, then DBCM. In the SBEG, TTHMs was composed of 42% of chloroform, 28.9% of bromoform, 15.1% of BDCM and 14% of DBCM, respectively. The strongest correlation was obtained in the levels of chloroform and TTHMs in chlorine, and ozone-chlorine disinfection systems from both indoor and outdoor swimming pools ($r=0.989{\sim}0.999$, p<0.01). In the SBEG, the levels of BDCM and TTHMs showed a good correlation (r=0.913, p<0.01). In chlorine and ozone-chlorine disinfection systems at indoor swimming pools, pH, TOC and $KMnO_4$ consumption showed strong correlation with chloroform and TTHMs concentrations (p<0.01). In the SBEG, pH and TOC were also strongly correlated with chloroform (p<0.01). pH and TTHMs were correlated as well (p<0.05).

어린이용품에 함유된 휘발성유기화합물의 비발암 위해성평가 (Risk Assessment for Non-Cancer Effects of Volatile Organic Compounds in Children's Products)

  • Background: This study was conducted to assess health risks in regard to exposure by children to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in children's products. Methods: Ten VOCs were measured by head-space gas chromatography in children's products, including toys, oil pastels, sign pens, furniture, ball pools, and playmats. We estimated the average daily dose (ADD) via inhalation during the use of these children's products and calculated hazard quotient (HQ) by dividing ADD by reference dose of VOCs. Results: Among the measured VOCs, five compounds were identified in children's products: benzene, ethylbenzene, styrene, toluene, and xylene. The detection rates of VOCs in toys, ball pools, furniture, playmats, sign pens, and oil pastels were 85%, 100%, 100%, 30%, 100%, and 60%, respectively. The maximum levels of VOCs were 0.18 mg benzene/kg in toys, 5.92 mg toluene/kg in playmats, 10.37 mg ethylbenzene/kg in ball pools, 24.85 mg xylene/kg in toys, and 118.29 mg styrene/kg in ball pools. From exposure levels of VOCs in the children's products HQs were calculated within a range of $5.71{\times}10^{-10}$ to $4.77{\times}10^{-4}$. The HQ of xylene was the highest for children aged 0-6 playing on the playmats. However, the HQ via inhalation exposure to VOCs in individual products did not exceed 1.00. Conclusion: Based on the results, it was concluded that the use of these children's products do not pose health risks to children.

Effect of Long Term Fertilization on Soil Carbon and Nitrogen Pools in Paddy Soil

  • Fertilizer management has the potential to promote the storage of carbon and nitrogen in agricultural soils and thus may contribute to crop sustainability and mitigation of global warming. In this study, the effects of fertilizer practices [no fertilizer (Control), chemical fertilizer (NPK), Compost, and chemical fertilizer plus compost] on soil total carbon (TC) and total nitrogen (TN) contents in inner soil profiles of paddy soil at 0-60 cm depth were examined by using long-term field experimental site at $42^{nd}$ years after installation. TC and TN concentrations of the treatments which included N input (NPK, Compost, NPK+Compost) in plow layer (0-15 cm) ranged from 19.0 to 26.4 g $kg^{-1}$ and 2.15 to 2.53 g $kg^{-1}$, respectively. Compared with control treatment, SOC (soil organic C) and TN concentrations were increased by 24.1 and 31.0%, 57.6 and 49.7%, and 72.2 and 54.5% for NPK, Compost, and NPK+Compost, respectively. However, long term fertilization significantly influenced TC concentration and pools to 30 cm depth. TC and TN pools for NPK, Compost, NPK+Compost in 0-30 cm depth ranged from 44.8 to 56.8 Mg $ha^{-1}$ and 5.78 to 6.49 Mg $ha^{-1}$, respectively. TC and TN pools were greater by 10.5 and 21.4%, 30.3 and 29.6%, and 39.9 and 36.3% in N input treatments (NPK, Compost, NPK+Compost) than in control treatment. These resulted from the formation and stability of aggregate in paddy soil with continuous mono rice cultivation. Therefore, fertilization practice could contribute to the storage of C and N in paddy soil, especially, organic amendments with chemical fertilizers may be alternative practices to sequester carbon and nitrogen in agricultural soil.

기후변화가 야외 물놀이 활동에 미치는 영향 : 한강시민공원 수영장을 대상으로 (Effects of Climate Change on Outdoor Water Activity : The Case of Hangang Park Swimming Pool in Seoul)

  • The aim of this study is to find preferred climate condition for outdoor water activity and to estimate future change of preferred season for the activity following the climate change. We chose urban public swimming pools, Hangang park swimming pools, which do not have any attractions except pools and allow people to make decision to visit pools in the morning solely based on the weather conditions as study sites. We identified the preferred climate conditions by analyzing the relationship between number of visitors and temperature, wind chill temperature and discomfort indexes. According to the result, the preferred temperature range was from $23.51^{\circ}C$ to $37.56^{\circ}C$, the wind chill temperature range was from $25.90^{\circ}C$ to $39.43^{\circ}C$, the discomfort index range was from 71.61 to 88.98 and the precipitation range was below 22.8 mm per day. When the temperature range is applied as the preferred season, in present, the length of the season is 127 days, from end of May to end of September. However, if temperature increase resulting from lower emission scenario (RCP 6.0), the season would be extended to 162 days, from early May to middle of October. If temperature is increasing under high emission scenario (RCP 8.5), the length of the season would be extended to 173 days from early May to end of October. In addition, the period of between end of July and early August, which is currently the most preferred season, would not be favored anymore due to high temperature. The result of this study further suggests the necessity of climate change adaptation activities.

Isolation and identification of mosquito-borne zoonotic diseases in slaughterhouse in Daejeon

  • This study was performed to investigate the distribution of mosquito vectors related to the zoonotic disease in Daejeon. Samples were taken using a blacklight trap once a month from March to November 2021 at the slaughterhouse in Daejeon. A total of 820 mosquitoes were captured and classified into 5 genera and 8 species. Among the collected mosquitoes, 319 (38.9%) and 295 (35.93%) were Aedes vexans nipponii and Culex pipiens pallens, respectively, making them the dominant species. The overall number of mosquitoes collected started to increase from May and reached the largest value of 329 (40.12%) in June. Trapped mosquitoes are created 72 pools by environmental condition and by species. The pools were tested by PCR methods for 7 zoonotic pathogens. Flavivirus-positive products were confirmed by DNA sequencing. Japanese encephalitis viruses were detected in 3 pools collected from cow lairage (Culex pipiens pallens) in May, cow by-product processing room (Aedes vexans nipponii) in June and cow lairage (Mansonia uniformis) in June. Culex flavivirus were detected in 4 pools. Based on the results of this study, it is considered that continous surveillence of mosquitoes in livestock assembly facilities (slaughterhouse) should be performed for controlling mosquito populations and mediating disease spread by mosquitoes.

Occurrence of Cryptosporidium and Giardia and the Relationship between Protozoa and Water Quality Indicators in Swimming Pools

  • A total of 60 samples were collected from 35 swimming pools in Beijing, China, and the presence of Cryptosporidium and Giardia were investigated. The results showed that 16.7% and 15.0% of samples were positive for Cryptosporidium oocyst and Giardia cysts, respectively, with a mean concentration of 0.30 oocysts/10 L and 0.27 cysts/10 L. The oocysts and cysts were found to have higher rates of occurrence in August than in May. Genotyping confirmed the presence of Cryptosporidium hominis, C. parvum, and Giardia assemblages A and B, all of which were associated with human infections. The predominant species/assemblages were C. hominis and Giardia assemblage A. Analyses of the relationships between parasite oocysts/cysts, indicator bacteria, and physical-chemical parameters revealed that there was no correlation between 2 parasites and fecal bacterial indicators, whilst there was a significant correlation between protozoa and urea concentration, which indicates that urea concentration rather than fecal bacterial indicators might be an appropriate index for chlorine-resistant protozoa in swimming pools. This study provides useful information to improve the safety of swimming pool water and deduce the risk of protozoan infections.
