  • In order to provide fundamental data for the design of geotextile drains, the in-plane permeability coefficients were determined by tests and permeable cllaracteristics were investigated, mainly on domestic nonwoven and composite getextile products used for drainage purpose. The results obtained are as follows, The thickness, the in-plane permeability coefficient and the transmissivity with the in- crease of compressive stress are found to be remarkably decreased when the compressive stress is lass than about 10KN/m2. The inflane permeability of filament nonwovens are found to be lower than that of composites or staple-fiher nonwovens, and the compressibility of the geotextile shown to be larger for the polyester nonwovens than for the polypropylene nonwovens. The relation of compressive stress, q and compressibility, Cr is expressed as Cr=13.37 In q+23.28 and that of compressibility on the basis of 2KN /m2, Cr' and decrease ratio of in-plane permeability coefficient is followed Pr: 1.25Cr'

  • This paper describes an experimental investigation on hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HYFRC) beams. And the main aim of this present paper is to examine the dynamic characteristics and damage evaluation of undamaged and damaged HYFRC beams under free-free constraints. In this experimental work, totally four RC beams were cast and analyzed in order to evaluate the dynamic behavior as well as static load behavior of HYFRCs. Hybrid fiber reinforced concrete beams have been cast by incorporating two different fibers such as steel and polypropylene (PP). Damage of HYFRC beams was obtained by cracking of concrete for one of the beams in each set under four-point bending tests with different percentage variation of damage levels as 50%, 70% and 90% of maximum ultimate load. And the main dynamic characteristics such as damping, fundamental natural frequencies, mode shapes and frequency response function at each and every damage level has been assessed by means of non-destructive technique (NDT) with hammer excitation. The fundamental natural frequency and damping values obtained through dynamic tests for HYFRC beams were compared with control (reference) RC beam at each level of damage which has been acquired through static tests. The static experimental test results emphasize that the HYFRC beam has attained higher ultimate load as compared with control reinforced concrete beam.

  • The cosmetics industry faces a significant challenge in addressing the decreased recycling rate of cosmetic containers due to the composite materials used to meet consumers' aesthetic satisfaction. To address thees issues, eco-friendly packaging solutions such as refill packaging and single-material use have been developed. However, the market for eco-friendly cosmetics packaging requires a product that meets consumers' demands for aesthetics, sensitivity, and eco-friendliness while also performing as well as existing products. This study presents a solution to the challenge of the decreased recycling rate of cosmetic containers by developing a new cosmetic packaging product for cream formulations. The product features an easily separable and dischargeable internal refill container, while maintaining the design aesthetics of the external container. Through various tests, the product was shown to be of equivalent quality and performance to existing cream cosmetic packaging, with no leakage or defects observed. Furthermore, the use of a single-material polypropylene refill container is expected to contribute to the improvement of the plastic recycling rate.

  • Demand for energy consumption reduction is increasing according to the development expectations of future mobility. Lightweight structural materials are known as a method to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency. In particular, fiber reinforced polymer composite (FRP) is attracting attention as a material that can replace existing metal alloys due to its excellent mechanical properties and light weight. In this paper, industrial applications and research trends of carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRP, carbon FRP) and self-reinforced composites (SRC) were reviewed based on the reinforcement, polymer matrix, and manufacturing process. In order to overcome the expensive process cost and long manufacturing time of the epoxy resin-based autoclave method, which is mainly used in the aircraft field, mass production of CFRP-applied electric vehicles has been reported using a high-pressure resin transfer molding process including fast-curing epoxy. In addition, thermoplastic resin-based CFRP and interface enhancement methods to solve the recycling issue of carbon fiber composites were reviewed in terms of materials and processes. To form a perfect matrix-reinforcement interface, which is known as the major factor inducing the excellent mechanical properties of FRP, studies on SRC impregnated with the same matrix in polymer fibers have been reported. The physical and mechanical properties of SRC based on various thermoplastic polymers were reviewed in terms of polymer orientation and composite structure. In addition, a copolymer matrix strategy for extending the processing window of highly drawn polypropylene fiber-based SRC was discussed. The application of CFRP and SRC as lightweight structural materials can provide potential options for improving the energy efficiency of future mobility.

  • For the commercialization of all-solid-state batteries, it is essential to develop a solid electrolyte that can be operable at room temperature, and it is necessary to manufacture all-solid-state batteries by adopting materials with high ionic conductivity. Therefore, in order to increase the ionic conductivity of the existing oxide-based solid, Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) doped with heterogeneous elements was used as a filler material (Al and Nb-LLZO). An electrolyte with garnet-type inorganic filler doped was prepared. The binary metal element and the polymer mixture of poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(propylene carbonate) (PEO/PPC) (1:1) are uniformly manufactured at a ratio of 1:2.4, The electrochemical performance was tested at room temperature and 60 ℃ to verify room temperature operability of the all-solid-state battery. The prepared composite electrolyte shows improved ionic conductivity derived from co-doping of the binary elements, and the PPC helps to improve the ionic conductivity, thereby increasing the capacity of all-solid-state batteries at room temperature as well as 60 ℃. It was confirmed that the capacity retention rate was improved.

  • Maleic anhydride (MAH) grafted polypropylenes (PP) (MAH-g-PP) were prepared by changing MAH content and styrene monomer (SM)/MAH mole ratio with different type PP, using a twin screw extruder. The types of PP were isotatic PP (iPP), block PP (bPP), and random PP (rPP) and dicumyl peroxide (DCP) was used as an initiator. The graft degree of MAH was confirmed by the existence of carbonyl group (C=O) stretching peak at $3100cm^{-1}$ of FTIR spectrum. Thermal properties of MAH-g-PP and PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites were investigated by DSC and TGA. There was no district change in thermal properties of PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites. Based on tensile properties and SEM pictures for fractured surface of PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites, MAH-g-rPP was the best as the compatibilizer and optimum formulation was MAH content of 1.0 wt%, SM/MAH mole ratio of 1.0, and melt index (MI) of 25 g/10 min. The rheological properties of the composites were investigated by a dynamic rheometer. The complex viscosity, shear thinning effect, and water uptake incresed with pulp content.

  • Even though to discard the waste FRP (Fiber-Reinforced Plastic) is urgent and problematic, the way to do it has not been efficient. In our project team the FRP have been splitted into some layers which have different physical properties; mat and roving layers. Among those, the roving layer woven like a basket by bundles of glass fibers has been cut into reusable fibers called 'F-fiber'. F-fiber is 1 mm or 3 mm in width and 3 cm in length. It is used in fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) with 0.5%, 0.7%, 1.0%, or 1.5% of volume ratio. Produced FRC was tested in compressive, tensile, and bending stress in contrast to the without-fiber (standard) concrete and 0.1% polypropylene reinforced concrete (PP-FRC). The tensile and bending stresses are more or less those of PP-FRC. The compressive stress, however, is similar (with 3 mm F-fiber) to or lower (with 1 mm F-fiber) than that of standard concrete. Conclusively the usage of the waste FRC in concrete is advised to be limited to the one where the compressive stress is not much critical.

  • Interfacial evaluation and durability of Jute and Hemp fibers/polypropylene (PP) composites were investigated. Moisture content of various treated conditions were measured by thermogravimetic analyzer (TGA). After boiling water test, mechanical properties and IFSS between Jute, Hemp fibers and PP matrix decreased. On the other hand, work of adhesion increased due to swelled fibril by water. Surface energies of Jute and Hemp fibers before and after boiling water test were obtained using dynamic contact angle measurement. IFSS was not always consistent with thermodynamic work of adhesion. In boiling water case, since Jute and Hemp fibers could be swelled by water, surface area and moisture infiltration space increased. Environmental effect on microfailure modes of Jute or Hemp fibers and Jute or Hemp fibers/PP composites were obtained by observing via optical microscope and by monitoring acoustic emission (AE) events and their AE parameters. After boiling water test, unlike Hemp fiber, microfailure process of Jute fiber could occur due to low tensile strength by swelled fibril. In addition, AE events occurred more and AE amplitude and energy became lower than those of before boiling water test.

  • A unique crystallization behavior of poly(L-lactide)(PLLA)/poly(D-lactide)(PDLA) stereocomplex(SC) was observed when a PLLA/PDLA blend was subjected to the specific melting conditions. Therefore, we tried to blend PLLA and PDLA at overall composition to form PLA stereocomplexes. Moreover, impact modifier and reinforcement materials such as talc and glass fiber added to enhance the mechanical and thermal properties such as impact strength and heat distortion temperature(HDT). As a result, we got one representative result, one composite recipe with HDT $115^{\circ}C$. For more economic technology, we tried to blend PLLA and Polypropylene at overall composition and we got another representative result which could be applied to current PP/talc composites and ABS materials. The core technology of this might be the well dispersion of glass fibers into the matrix resin such as PP, PLLA and impact strength modifier.

  • In this work, tensile and in-plane shear tests for thermoplastic glass fiber/polypropylene composites were performed at a thermo-forming temperature and their properties were characterized and mathematically expressed by using the non-orthogonal constitutive model. As for the thermo-forming test, half-dome experiments were carried out by varying the usage of a releasing agent and the weight of holders. As results, the optimum final shape having well-aligned symmetry and no wrinkle formation was obtained when the releasing agent was used, and it was found that the careful control of a holding force is crucial to manufacture the healthy product. Furthermore, FEM simulations based on the non-orthogonal model showed similar final shapes and tendency of wrinkle formation with experimental results, and confirmed that wrinkles increase with less holding force and higher punch force is required under high frictional condition.
