To restore visual sensation of blind patients, we have proposed a fully implantable retinal prosthesis comprising an three dimensionally (3D) stacked retinal chip for transforming optical signal to electrical signal, a flexible cable with stimulus electrode array for stimulating retina cells, and coupling coils for power transmission. The 3D stacked retinal chip is consisted of several LSI chips such as photodetector, signal processing circuit, and stimulus current generator. They are vertically stacked and electrically connected using 3D integration technology. Our retinal prosthesis has a small size and lightweight with high resolution, therefore it could increase the patients` quality of life (QOL). For realizing the fully implantable retinal prosthesis, we developed a retinal prosthesis module comprising a retinal prosthesis chip and a flexible cable with stimulus electrode array for generating optimal stimulus current. In this study, we used a 2D retinal chip as a prototype retinal prosthesis chip. We fabricated the polymide-based flexible cable of $20{\mu}m$ thickness where 16 channels Pt stimulus electrode array was formed in the cable. Pt electrode has an impedance of $9.9k{\Omega}$ at 400Hz frequency. The retinal prosthesis chip was mounted on the flexible cable by an epoxy and electrically connected by Au wire. The retinal prosthesis chip was cappted by a silicone to pretect from corrosive environments in an eyeball. Then, the fabricated retinal prosthesis module was implanted into an eyeball of a rabbit. We successfully recorded electrically evoked potential (EEP) elicited from the rabbit brain by the current stimulation supplied from the implanted retinal prosthesis module. EEP amplitude was increased linearly with illumination intensity and irradiation time of incident light. The retinal prosthesis chip was well functioned after implanting into the eyeball of the rabbit.
Pyroelectric infrared detectors based on La-modified $PbTiO_{3}$ (PLT) thin films have been fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering and rnicrornachining technology. The detectors form $Pb_{l-x}La_{x}Ti_{1-x/4}O_{3}$ (x=0.05) thin film ferroelectric capacitors epitaxially grown by RF magnetron sputtering on Pt/MgO (100) substrate. The sputtered PLT thin film exhibits highly c-axis oriented crystal structure that no poling treatment for sensing applications is required. This is an essential factor to increase the yield for realization of an infrared image sensor. Micromachining technology is used to lower the thermal mass of the detector by giving maximum sensor efficiency. Polymide is coated on top of the sensing elements to support the fragile structure and the backside of the MgO substrate is selectively etched to reduce the heat loss. The sensing element exhibited a very high detectivity D* of $8.5{\times}10^{8}cm{\cdot}\sqrt{Hz}/W$ at room temperature and it is about 100 times higher than the case of micromachining technology is not used. A sensing system that detects the position as well as the existence of a human body is realized using the array sensor.

In this paper, we propose a multi-band monopole antenna with a band-notching U-slot, which is fabricated inside the flexible polymide film substrate. The U-shaped slot located on the patch-shaped monopole antenna provides band-notch at 2.7 GHz, but also helps to improve return loss at adjacent frequency bands. The performance of the antenna attached on an automobile-glass has been simulated and measured. The fabricated antenna provides more than 10 dB return loss for ISM band(2.4~2.483 GHz) and WAVE band(5.85~5.925 GHz), 2.8~5.7 dBi maximum gain, and good radiation patterns.
Polyimide-silica hybrid membranes were prepared and the effect of silica content on the structural properties and the gas transport properties was studied. The hybrid membranes were obtained by the sol-gel process starting from 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride(PMDA), 4,4`-diamino- diphenyl oxide(ODA) and tetraethoxysilane(TEOS) in N,N` dimethylacetatmide (DMAc) solvent. The structural characterizations of the membrane were performed by FT-IR, EDX, TGA and SEM. The gas permeation experiments with ${N_2}, {O_2}, {H_2}, {CO_2}and ${CH_4}$ were carried out at the temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ and in the range of pressure from 3atm to 7atm. the hybrid membranes showed higher thermal stability than PI membranes. The silica patricles were uniformly embedded in the polyimide matrix and the size of silica particles increased with increasing silica content. The permeability coefficients of ${N_2}, {O_2}, {H_2}, {CO_2}and ${CH_4}$ increased with increasing silica content but the diffusion coefficients might appear to be a result of a solubility enhancement. In spite of the permeability enhancement, an increase in the selectivities of ${H_2}/{N_2}, ${H_2}/{O_2} and ${H_2}/{CO_2} was observed.

The adhesion interface formation between copper and poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET), poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) and Polyimide films was treated using Ion assisted reaction system to sequential sputter deposition by High-Frequency ion source. The ion beam modification system used a new type of low power HF ion thruster for space application as new low thruster electric propulsion system. Low power HF ion thruster with diameter 100mm gives the opportunity to obtain beams of Ar+ with currents 20~150 mA (current density 0.5~3.5 mA/cm2) and energy 200~2500eV at HF power level 10~150 W. Using Ar as a working gas it is possible to obtain thrust within 3~8 mN. Contact angles for untreated films were over 95$^{\circ}$ and 80 for Pet, 10o for PMMA and 12o for PI samples as a condition of ion assisted reaction at the ion dose of 10$\times$1016 ions/cm2, the ion beam potential of 1.2 keV and 4 ml/min for environmental gas flow rate. 900o peel tests yielded values of 15 to 35 for PET, 18 to 40 and 12 to 36 g/min. respectively. High resolution X-ray photoelectron spectrocopy is the Cls region for Cu metal on these polymer substrates showed increases in C=O-O groups for polymide, whereas PET and PMMA treated samples showed only C=O groups with increase the ion dose. Finally, unstable polymer surface can be changed from hydrophobic to hydrophilic formation such as C-O and C=O that were confirmed by the XPS analysis, conclusionally, the ion assisted reaction is very effective tools to attach reactive ion species to form functional groups on C-C bond chains of PET, PMMA and PI.
Thermal degradation for glass fiber-reinforced polyamide 66 composite (PA 66) with respect of thermal exposure time has been investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. As the thermal exposure time was prolonged, a slight increase in tensile strength for only initial stage and afterward, a proportional decrease of tensile strength was observed. These results can be explained by the increase of crystallinity, followed by the increase of crosslinking density, chain scission and the decrease in chain mobility, due to thermal oxidation with the exposure time. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results showed the increase of ketone peak and silica peak on the surface of thermally exposed PA 66. In addition, the thermal decomposition kinetics of PA 66 was analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis at three different heating rates. The relationship between activation energy and lifetime-prediction of PA 66 was investigated by several methodologies, such as statistical tool, UL 746B, Ozawa and Kissinger. The activation energy determined by thermogravimetric analysis had a relatively large value compared with that from the accelerated test. This may result in over-estimating the lifetime of PA 66. In this study, a master curve of exponential fitting has been developed to extrapolate the activation energy at various service temperatures.

We synthesized novel polyimides with high gas permeability and selectivity for application of gas separation membrane. 2,2-bis(3,4-carboxylphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) and two kinds of amines with high permeability and solubility were used to prepare the novel polymide. 2,4,6-Trimethyl-1,3-phenylenediamine (DAM) was used to improve gas permeability and 4,4-Methylenedianiline was used to improve the gas selectivity respectively. The polyimide copolymers were synthesized by commercial chemical imidization method using Triethylamine and Acetic anhydride and their average molecular weights were over 100,000 g/mol. The glass temperature (Tg) and the thermal degradation temperature were characterized using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The synthesized copolymers showed high Tg over $300^{\circ}C$ and high thermal degradation temperature over $500^{\circ}C$. The gas permeation properties were measured by time-lag equipment. Although general polyimides showed very low gas permeability, synthesized polyimide copolymer showed high $O_2$ permeability of 10.1 barrer with high $O_2/N_2$ selectivity around 5.3. From this result, we confirm that these membranes have possibility to apply to gas separation membrane.

We synthesized novel polyimides with high gas permeability and selectivity for application of on board inert gas generation system (OBIGGS). 2,2-bis(3,4-carboxylphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) and two kinds of amines with high permeability and solubility were used to prepare the novel polymide. 2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (TMPD) was used to improve gas permeability and various kinds of diamines were used to improve the gas selectivity respectively. The polyimide copolymers were synthesized by commercial chemical imidization method and their average molecular weights were over 100,000g/mol. The glass temperature ($T_g$) and the thermal degradation temperature were characterized using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The synthesized copolymers showed high $T_g$ over $300^{\circ}C$ and high thermal degradation temperature over $500^{\circ}C$. The gas permeation properties were measured by time-lag equipment. Although general polyimides showed very low gas permeability, synthesized polyimide copolymer showed high $O_2$ permeability of 36.21 barrer with high $O_2/N_2$ selectivity around 4.1. From this result, we confirm that these membranes have possibility to apply to OBIGGS.
The $Co_{90}Fe_{10}$ single layer films were deposited on various substrates (glass, Si, polymide) using high vacuum RF magnetron sputtering system and nominall 1000 $\AA$ thick $Co_{90}Fe_{10}$ alloy films had a good high frequency characteristic. $M_S$ and $H_{an}$ values obtained from the B-H characteristic of the $10{\times}[100 nm \;Co_{90}Fe_{10}/100 nm\; SiO_2]$ multilayers agreed well with those obtained by calculation. Complex relative permeability $(={\{\mu}_r={\mu}_r',-j{\mu}$\mu$_r")$ at frequency f was measured from the transmission characteristics $(S_{11},\; S_{21}\;parameters)$ of the microstrip line which has a stacked structure consisting of sample magnetic films and a conductor and is connected to a network analyzer. The ${\mu}_r'-f$ characteristic was abtained from the megnetic absorption, which was analyzed from the S-parameter characteristics of the microstrip line. The ${\mu}_r'-f$ characteristic was also calculated from the ${\mu}_r"-f$-f characteristic using the Kramers-Kronig relation. The measurement results were confirmed to agree well with those obtained by calculations.culations.
