  • Self-assembling nanospheres of hydrophobized pullulan have been developed. Pullulan acetate (PA), as hydrophobized pullulan, was synthesized by acetylation. Carboxymethylated poly(ethylene-glycol) (CMPEG) was introduced into pullulan acetate (PA) through a coupling reaction using N, N'-dicyclohexyl carbodiimide (DCC). A synthesized PA-PEG-PA (abbreviated as PEP) conjugate was confirmed by Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Since PEP conjugates have amphiphilic characteristics in aqueous solution, polymeric nanoparticles of PEP conjugates were prepared using a simple dialysis method in water. From the analysis of fluorescence excitation spectra primarily, the critical association concentration (CAC) of this conjugate was found to be 0.0063 g/L. Observations by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed the spherical morphologies of the PEP nanoparticles. The particle size distribution of the PEP conjugates was determined using photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) and the intensity-average particle size was 193.3 ${\pm}$ 13.53 nm with a unimodal distribution. Clonazepam (CNZ), as a model drug, was easy to entrap into polymeric nanoparticles of the PEP conjugates. The drug release behavior was mainly diffusion controlled from the core portion.

  • Vibration control in mechanical equipments is an important problem where unwanted vibrations are vanish or at least diminished. In this paper, free vibration active control of the porous sandwich piezoelectric polymeric nanocomposite microbeam with microsensor and microactuater layers are investigated. The aim of this research is to reduce amplitude of vibration in micro beam based on linear quadratic regulator (LQR). Modified couple stress theory (MCST) according to sinusoidal shear deformation theory is presented. The porous sandwich microbeam is rested on elastic foundation. The core and face sheet are made of porous and three-phase carbon nanotubes/resin/fiber nanocomposite materials. The equations of motion are extracted by Hamilton's principle and then Navier's type solution are employed for solving them. The governing equations of motion are written in space state form and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is used for active control approach. The various parameters are conducted to investigate on the frequency response function (FRF) of the sandwich microbeam for vibration active control. The results indicate that the higher length scale to the thickness, the face sheet thickness to total thickness and the considering microsensor and microactutor significantly affect LQR and uncontrolled FRF. Also, the porosity coefficient increasing, Skempton coefficient and Winkler spring constant shift the frequency response to higher frequencies. The obtained results can be useful for micro-electro-mechanical (MEMS) and nano-electro-mechanical (NEMS) systems.

  • In this paper, compressive characteristics of carbon fabric skin with polymeric foam core sandwich structure were investigated by FE analyses and compressive tests of polyurethane foam were also conducted with respect to temperature changes, which were determined by curing processes of epoxy or polyester resin to obtain mechanical behaviour of polyurethane foam. FE analyses indicated variation of parameters with respect to manufacturing pressure, which have comparatively massive effect upon mechanical properties of sandwich structures, i.e. wavelength as well as crimp angle of carbon fabric

  • Metal and polymer sandwich composites, which are made of sheet metal sheath and polymer or fiber reinforced plastic core, have been reconsidered as an alternative to sheet metal due to their lightness and multifunctional properties such as damping and sound-proof properties. For the successful applications of these composites, the delamination prediction based on the adhesion strength is important element. In this study, the numerical simulation of the delamination behavior of polymeric adhesive tapes with metallic surfaces was performed using cohesive zone elements and finite element software. The traction-separation law of the cohesive zone element was defined using the fracture energy derived from peel mechanics and experimental results from peel test and implemented in finite element software. The peel test of the polymeric adhesive film against steel surface was simulated and compared with experiments, demonstrating reasonable agreement between simulation and experiment.

  • In the present work, the buckling analysis of micro sandwich plate with an isotropic/orthotropic cores and piezoelectric/polymeric nanocomposite face sheets is studied. In this research, two cases for core of micro sandwich plate is considered that involve five isotropic Devineycell materials (H30, H45, H60, H100 and H200) and an orthotropic material also two cases for facesheets of micro sandwich plate is illustrated that include piezoelectric layers reinforced by carbon and boron-nitride nanotubes and polymeric matrix reinforced by carbon nanotubes under temperature-dependent and hydro material properties on the elastic foundations. The first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is adopted to model micro sandwich plate and to apply size dependent effects from modified strain gradient theory. The governing equations are derived using the minimum total potential energy principle and then solved by analytical method. Also, the effects of different parameters such as size dependent, side ratio, volume fraction, various material properties for cores and facesheets and temperature and humidity changes on the dimensionless critical buckling load are investigated. It is shown from the results that the dimensionless critical buckling load for boron nitride nanotube is lower than that of for carbon nanotube. It is illustrated that the dimensionless critical buckling load for Devineycell H200 is highest and lowest for H30. Also, the obtained results for micro sandwich plate with piezoelectric facesheets reinforced by carbon nanotubes (case b) is higher than other states (cases a and c).The results of this research can be used in aircraft, automotive, shipbuilding industries and biomedicine.

  • In the present study, the deformation behavior of both of metal and polymer combination on impact was investigated. They have showed a different deformation behavior when the co-axially combined projectile was impacted on rigid target. The theory according to Taylor's simplified approach assumes an ideally rigid-plastic material model exhibiting rate-independent behavior and simple one-dimensional wave propagation concepts that neglect radial inertia. In the case of impact with polymeric materials, elastic strain in general are not negligible compared with plastic strain; and the rigid-plastic material behavior assumed by Taylor for metallic materials cannot be applied any more. Since, the sleeve and the core materials have widely different mechanical properties, they will produce a significant difference of mechanical impedance with each other. Therefore these impedance mismatch influences on the deformation behavior sleeved polymer projectile on impact. As a result, sleeved projectiles will generate a very interesting impact behavior. Therefore, the according to sleeved metal material and core polymer material can see expected. The objective of this study was to investigate the factors which influences on deformation behavior pattern of sleeve materials surface.

  • In this paper, we focused on the self-healing concrete using new nano-capsules. Three types of nano-capsules with respect to availability, high strength and temperature tolerance are used; type 1 is URF and polyethylene (PE) as shell and nano titanium oxide (TiO2) as core, type 2 is URF and PE as shell and nano silica oxide (SiO2) as core, type 3 is PE as shell and nano silica oxide (SiO2) as core. The concrete samples mixed by nano-capsules with three percents of 0.5, 1 and 1.5. Based on experimental tests and the compressive strength of samples, the URF-PE-SiO2 is selected for additional tests of compressive strength before and after recovery, ultrasonic test, ion chlorine and water penetration depths. After careful investigation, it is concluded that the optimum value of URF-PE-SiO2 nano-capsules is 0.5% since leads to higher compressive strength, ultrasonic test, ion chlorine and water penetration depths.

  • This presentation highlights work from the authors' laboratories on the various kinds of oxide optical materials, mainly luminescence and pigment materials with different forms (powder, core-shell structures, thin film and patterning) prepared by the Pechini-type sol-gel (PSG) process. The PSG process which uses the common metal salts (nitrates, acetates, chlorides etc) as precursors and citric acid (CA) as chelating ligands of metal ions and polyhydroxy alcohol (such as ethylene glycol or poly ethylene glycol) as cross-linking agent to form a polymeric resin on molecular level, allowing the preparation of many forms of luminescent materials.
